Week 10: Detroit Lions @ Houston Texans (Sunday Night Football and Battle Red Game)

Who you think winning?

The big difference this year is Scruggs at center. Much as I want to, I just can't get around that. There is absolutely no cohesion on the line. It's each man for himself, and they all suck
Well said. Center position makes the calls. One word can be the difference in a successful play or a tackle for a lost. Saw in multiple games where 2 guys are blocking 1 player while a defender runs free up the interior resulting in a pressure, sack or tackle for a lost.

Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst. I was excited for what could be when they beat the Bills. Frustrated at what could have been when they lost to the Packers. Now facing the Lions its a great opportunity to show they are true contenders in prime time. Home game for the good guys so should see the best version of them when trying to wipe off the stink of that Jets game.

As much as most all were complaining about Dieter last year, once he became the starter in week 8, the Texans finished 7-3 and had a dominating offense even without a run game

Agreed. I was shocked at Kendricks grade. I knew he gave up some pressures but didn’t think it was that bad.

Overall man.. I’m disappointed in our evaluation of talent on the offensive line. I don’t understand how the offensive line was better last season when they were basically a week to week shuffle.

Caserio built this Oline, haven't heard a peep from him. & sure, slowik playcalling is stupid a lot of times. Teams have adjusted and maybe Cj made his scheme look better than what it was last season. Defenses have adjusted after learning his scheme and we haven’t scored a td in the 2nd half since week 5.

I guess the biggest trick up the Texans sleeve for Sunday Night…..make some ducking adjustments at halftime!!!!!! That would probably throw some kind of Jedi Mindtrick on the Lions.

Deiter would be a decent acquisition, but I doubt the Commanders move any players while they’re in a position to win the NFC East. They’re looking like the real deal right now.

They expect adjustments....... the real genius is to change nothing!!

They know that we know that they know that we know that they know we know..... being predictable makes you unpredictable.

6-4 ... Lions are salivating to quell their appetite for another SB run. They're hungry.
Texans are beat up and will be lucky to come out of this game on the positive side of injuries... (not to mention OL can't contain/push/provide).
I expect an OL/G//T to not play for a few weeks after this game-- which will make today's deadline day that much more fvcked in hindsight.
They may not play in it for a while, but I think the red will be plaguing this team for a few weeks... skid probably continues through the DAL game as well (watch 'em start to climb now that Dak is being IR'd for the rest of the season).

When's the last time we had NFL trade deadline, MLB QO deadline, & a presidential election all on the same day??? Everyone will either wake up tomorrow and Houston will be in shambles, or we (Texans/Astros fans) may just make it out of this thing smiling. Either way, someone's Cheerios are getting pisshatted in tomorrow.

Offense : Lions 7th
Texans 11th
Defense : Texans 2nd
Lions 22nd
I don't know, but the way Mixon is playing and getting Collins back it's possible this could be a close game and if Stroud does his magic the Texans could win. Just trying to be optimistic.
Who says we’re getting Collins back this week?

Lions are rolling and have too many weapons on offense (Williams, St Brown, LaPorta, Montgomery and Gibbs). We'll be seeing Hendon Hooker with 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Lions 51-20

Texans are a team that hangs around if they score first so it will be interesting to see if they can do that.

Barring a miracle the Texans will be 6-3 after Sunday night. Which doesn't mean miracles don't happen, but I wouldn't count on it.

We'll still win the division and lay an egg wildcard weekend. No offensive line = not very far in the playoffs.
We already are 6-3. Did you mean to say 6-4?

Unless Meco and Bobby have been mad scientists and suddenly decide to be good coaches, this team is getting absolutely curb stomped on national TV. Early prediction... 38 to 17 Lions.

This team is like Lucy and the NFL is Charlie Brown. Every time the NFL decides to believe this team is prime-time worthy, the Texans/Lucy pulls the football and CB ends up kicking air and landing on his butt. The Texans will prove once again that they are the true not ready for prime-time players. It's been this way for 22 years and it will be this way for 22 more, if I'm alive to see it.
This seasons Texans will be like last seasons Jaguars! Quick start will lead to a sudden spiral down to suckitude!

Slowik needs ro design plays that regularly moves the pocket, They also need to speed up time before each play. That can't hurt. We can't be much worse than we were against the Jets. What would it hurt?

It’s really frustrating man…
Cj wins ROTY and you still dont trust him…
He doesn’t call the blitz at the line like the Mahomes, LJ, Burrow & 80% of the league…
How is he going to get better?
How are we going beat the chiefs or ravens if you don’t trust him?
The reason why defenders are running freely to him is because he doesn’t call the blitz.
You have a 1st year center and thought the line would communicate effectively?
Disappointed a little in Cj for not speaking up and maybe he has, but he should be allowed to call the blitz for his own safety and switch up the plays. I don’t think we’re going to go far. Teams know this information now. Said all year, Oc’s are suppose to help the qb and make the job easier but nope.
Just sucks Demeco has let this go on for so long. Sucks even more Slowik thinks the Texans have a Brock Purdy player when his ceiling is much higher. When one of the most accurate QBs in the league is putting up 11/31, it’s the oc fault 9/10 times.

Why isn't he calling out the blitz?
Because of Slowik. He doesn’t trust Cj to run the offense. Cj doesn’t audible at the line of scrimmage. The shannahan scheme more times than not lets the center do the pass protection while other schemes usually let the Brady’s, mannings and Mahomes call out the blitz. You can see every game Cj trust is going down. He was under the impression that Slowik and strausser taught the offensive line so they know what they’re doing but that shows up because when they get tricked with certain blitzes, we see Cj shows frustration when it doesn’t work out.
Slowik offensive scheme works well when you have a great center like Kelce who can call everything on the line.

He’s so caught up in his slide protection scheme. One guy is usually blocking 1 man while the other 4 are teaming up in a double team and the o line is guessing wrong on a lot of the plays due to the stunts and other trickery schemes. That’s where teams are really exposing them. Great offenses know how to do man to man protection. Great football minds will sit down and wonder if Slowik came into the season expecting defenses not to figure out his scheme. What’s even worse is he’s forcing it although it’s getting exposed and is looking worse every game. Life is tough on Cj right now

Maybe so, but CJ still isn't picking up on corner blitzes or obvious overload blitzes and that's his job. He can always use a timeout when he sees a blitz coming pre-snap if the right protection isn't called if it's the OC calling it. What is the one glaring difference from the second half of last year to this year? It's not the OC

He’s not picking up on the corner blitz because the corner is usually disguised and he's under the impression the line will pick it up. The offense is designed the same way as the 49ers. Brock isn’t asked to do so much. It’s not Cj’s fault he’s being misused.

We've seen many times a blitzer is not disguised either. CJ is not totally blameless here. He's young and has much to learn.

I'd like our odds a bit better IF CJ was protected by more than just wet tissue paper.

Even if it were upgraded to the Charmin side in the toilet paper commercial with the blue spot.... not dollar store single ply.

Has nothing to do with trust. He learned this offense from the 49ers HC who doesn’t allow his quarterbacks to call out blitz or audible out of plays.

Detroit Lions at Houston Texans: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 10 game
Portrait of Jon Hoefling Jon Hoefling
USA TODAY

After an unfortunate defeat at the hands of the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football, the Houston Texans have had ample rest time to prepare for a very difficult matchup against the Detroit Lions.

While C.J. Stroud has mostly failed to improve upon his remarkable rookie season, many of his struggles can be pinned on injuries to his top two receivers Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs. Despite Stroud's recent struggles, his Texans still sit comfortably in first place in the AFC South. They are two games up on second-place Indianapolis, but that lead could evaporate quickly, especially with a matchup against Detroit on the horizon.
The Lions have looked nearly unbeatable at times this season. Last weekend was no different. The Green Bay Packers are one of the better teams in the NFC this year, and the Lions took them to the cleaners. The Lions have more touchdowns (28) than their quarterback Jared Goff has incompletions (24) over the last six weeks. Perhaps the Texans can put an end to this remarkable streak.

Are you sure it's the offensive line's job to pick up blitzing cornerbacks?
