2024 COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON info; players to watch

Fun to talk about small school guys but most will go no higher than round 5 if that. Charles Grant probably has the best shot at being drafted and that is if he is moved inside to offensive guard. We also need to keep in mind when discussing Texans that Ryans and Nick prefer drafting from name schools.
That’s true. I don’t believe that NC has drafted a small school prospect yet.

I don’t think NC would pick an RB in round1/2, so Judkins is probably off the board. But I’d take Henderson to pair with Mixon in the 3rd. Excellent blocking!
Henderson would be a steal in the 3rd. I'm thinking the Texans pick will be a late 3rd rd pick and it's doubtful Henderson will last that long. Now Edwards from Michigan who I think is a level lower than Henderson should be there late 4th/early 5th. He would be an upgrade.

Edwards has really been up and down. I’d probably go with a different guy. Here are some I’m keeping my eyes on. Luckily it’s a stacked class.

Kyle Monangai
Kaleb Johnson
Tahj Brooks

Sweet spot for RB in last years draft was 4th rd. I love Stover too, understand positional value/need, but BPA was RB position. Bucky Irving, Will Shipley, Ray Davis, Isaac Guerendo & Jaylen Wright. Lot of these guys we’re drafted by teams with already deep position groups, so strong get stronger. When that happens here, I’ll be surprised.

If Jeanty gets to the Texans pick 23+….let’s just say the stars aligned for Caserio. It would be a nightmare for defenses if they had to worry about a running game that featured Mixon and Jeanty.
I have saw him mocked to Dallas who will be picking way ahead of us. I like the star aligment for us and would run to the podium.

In another Mock….the Cowboys have several holes on defense which could make drafting a DL higher on their list of needs than a RB. In that Mock, Jeanty did fall to the Texans at 23.

When do you get your LG? In my current mock, I resolve that with a current starter which allows us to use round 1 for a difference maker.

It’s some players you watch and just say, man that kid is going to be a star at the next level. I feel that way about penn state tight end, Tyler Warren #44. I believe his ceiling will be a top 3 tight end in the league. No way he makes it to the 2nd round.

This was interesting and could justify some discussion. 2 days ago, Sports Illustrated projected Boise State RB, Ashton Jeanty would be the Texans pick in…..RD1. If Jeanty continues to roll up the yards, he could easily be a 2,000 plus yard back this season, and that would be his ground game. His total yards may be crazy as well. At 5-9 and 217 lbs, Jeanty is a pretty solid back and is a good cut and go RB that projects to fit well with the Texans offense.

Could the Texans justify taking the “projected” top RB in the draft with their RD1 pick? If the draft is truly deep at DT and S, could the Texans select a RB and still focus on DT and S later?

For me, the Texans need to get a young and healthy answer in the backfield next season. Mixon made it 1.25 games into the season and is on the shelf until further notice. Pierce had 1 solid carry in WK1 and that’s been about it. Not sold on him being the torch bearer at RB1 if Mixon goes down again in the season. I like Akers, but the OL has been atrocious since WK1 in the run game……which has put a big damper on any success some of us expect to see with him being RB1 at the moment. For this reason, getting a RB in the draft should be a priority, and if Jeanty is at the top of the position I’d be fine with Caserio and Ryans making the investment.
That would be a nice pick but Jeanty won’t be available when the Texans pick.

I agree but w Mixon having the year he is, with a good contract, I can't see Caserio spending a round one on a running back. We do need a player who can put points on the board or keep points from getting on the board.

Penn State RB, Nicholas Singleton could fit the bill for the Texans a little later. It could depend on his 40 time if he slides to RD2 or RD3….he’s ran a 4.3-40 at 226 lbs.

We’ve seen the Joe Mixon experience and how important talent is at the RB position, so I’d like to see Texans double down and move up in 1st then add to current roster, most dynamic, complimentary back, in Ashton Jeanty, see them eat. Can draft swarm mentality, Guards & Centers in 4th rounds on......

If a guy like Walter Nolan falls to them, they should take him. Talent always comes first. But if that level of talent is gone then you start to replenish the the OL.,

I like Nolan yet Oregons Jordan Burch offers the same in round 3.

Agree to disagre on this, after testing I bet you Burch goes in the 2nd. Collins from Texas is a guy who goes early 3rd. IMHO
I rank Burch as a second round but hoping he falls so Houston can have a shot at him . Collins a fourth or later. Just depends on how teams need defensive linemen.

As this season slips away, may not have to trade up much or he may fall into our laps. RB cannot be ignored anymore, will enhance OL performance by itself.

Big Duck here, but Burch is injury prone.
Minor knee surgery that apparently didn't impact his play returning after 3 games then a minor ankle and he returned same game.
I am unaware of any at his previous 3 years South Carolina. Do you have other information?

I also like Oregon's Derrick Harmon, WR Evan Stewart and OT Josh Conerly.
Another reason I am so angry with the way our team is going as I hoped we could pick up some of these types of players after round 1. It will be interesting if Nick trades out of round one.

Maybe its just my luck, everytime I want to see him play he’s out or sidelined. Somehow the team still manages to get by. Availability is best ability.

Knee injuries always concern me but he seems to have done well since surgery. I would be okay if Nick went in a different direction.

Matthew Golden WR of Texas a 2023 transfer has looked really good last two seasons. He does not seem to be well thought of by any draft mock analyst surprisingly.

A guy I have been watching a while who seems to be creeping up the rankings. I do not have him in round 3 as do others but think he could be great behind our starters while he learned. I could also see him some at free safety but not strong.

He probably will go higher than the 3rd after the combine. He's got Woolen type traits.
