2024 Free Agency

The bar incident occurred in 2014, the video was released in 2016; so it was a decade ago

I get that but it doesn't change my feelings on the deal. I think it's a bad idea. RB with plenty of miles already on him and trouble in his past committing a violent act against a woman, going to a team that just got out from under the cloud of DW4's behavior. Just a bad move IMO for a commodity that isn't that hard to find.

How are the Chargers going to get under the cap before tomorrow? they are $25 million over right now. Who are they going to be forced to release, and do we want them?
I've heard Mack is on the trade block and Mike Williams could be released.

I think Nick has been masterful so far this off-season, and we are in a great position to rake in some really good talent in areas of relative need at good value the next week or so. And, we are armed to make an impact in the draft as well. After the draft, I think it will be hard for someone to argue that we are not better, literally, in every position group on the team compared to the 2023 roster. That is quite remarkable, IMO.

I usually don't like it when Caserio trades for a guy that's about to be cut. But this is different in that the Texans are no longer sitting near the top of the waiver wire. And Mixon has a team friendly contract (around $6 million in salary and bonuses). The Texans could extend Mixon a year or 2 without pain, and still make Mixon happy.

No longer a pro bowl RB, but Mixon is solid in every aspect. I think he's a plus receiver out of the backfield. It's a good RB class to find a guy in the mid rounds, and I personally still think Pierce can get better.
why would waiver wire have ANYTHING to do with this??? He would have been released and thus a free agent???

Joe Mixon wasn't signed to be our #1 RB. Mixon was signed to bring stability and reliable production while the Texans pursue the difference-maker they want for their championship run the next 5 years.

the mixon trade WREAKS OF DESPERATION. Talk about a disappointing FA period so far...Two decent players, the rest are ST, depth, and scrubs...and now with mixon Caserio is just grasping at straws since he allowed all the good backs to be had by other teams b/c he wanted to pinch pennies.

Well, I'm pretty sure Mixon is the presumptive RB1 in 2024. Considering the RB room consists of Mixon, Pierce, JJ Taylor, Gerrid Doaks, and TBD.

So they wanted Queen for 10 million per year and then went at got al-shaair 11 million+ per year? Doesn‘t really add up - I guess Queens market is between 15-18 million per year. I would have preferred Queen (even at 15 million), but am fine with shaair.

I just really want one of those safeties now…

I wouldn't obsess over the details of the report... It is the distance from the Texans # and Queen that is the reason why they moved on... Frankly, I think Queen (or a number of these top FAs) are still in play for Houston. They are just taking care of business with these other deals and waiting for the market to come in, which I believe it already is... Nick playing chess this year, because he is finally in a position of strength (the Texans have gone from a league-wide joke to a place that players who care about getting better, and care about winning want to go)

I just don't think the Texans are "moving on" as if they have solved the RB position. They fully intend to upgrade the position between now and April 26th.

Mixon is a solid all around back. He’s actually an upgrade over Motor. Imo this wasn’t an act of desperation at all.

You are too attached to a couple free agent names and it is coloring your perspective. Let go of it and enjoy the ride that is starting. Nick and Demeco are executing a plan to become superbowl contenders for the forseeable future. Don't be late for the fun!

I think the Texans are good until the draft. I fully expect a RB to be selected and another signed as a UDFA.

If you are right about no more free agent movement at RB then I fully expect the Texans to target and attack someone in round 2 or 3... and we will see some trade movement in the draft to get to their back of choice.

Oh, it was close to desperation in terms of the market, but I don't get the sense that the Texans panicked and were able to move effectively when an opportunity became available. Mixon has been durable and consistently productive. Good on the field get. Not a fan of his past personal behavior, but I hope I am not held to my worst teenage moments forever

Actually Im not. Just expected the Texans to do a lot more at positions of need. Now they have desprately added mixon (and of course people on here will disregard his injury history) and will have to add on via draft making that another position of need and have gone after nothing but depth and st players with the exception of an aging Autry (33yrs old) and Shazir.

Just because the Texans signed the guys they did in the first day, it doesn't mean that they signed them to be on the top of their depth chart... Again, there is a TON of talent that will make the texans better still available and the Texans have an easy $40 million of cap space to utilize and a full slate of draft picks.

Injury history?? 2020 is the only significant time he's missed due to injury.

Winner: The Texans' defense

While I'd expect Houston to add a running back to replace departed free agent Devin Singletary, general manager Nick Caserio added two of my favorite free agents to the roster Monday. Both deals appear to be reasonably priced and even take a pair of free agents away from a division rival in Tennessee. The Titans weren't a great team a year ago, but two things they did well were stop the run and generate pressure up the middle. Some of that was star tackle Jeffery Simmons, but he was aided by the wildly underrated Denico Autry, who posted a career-high 11.5 sacks in his age-33 season. Autry was never going to have a wild market given his age, but I was surprised to see him sign for two years and $20 million this early in free agency. That's a great deal for a player who has been remarkably consistent and can play outside on early downs and rush from the interior in passing situations.Houston added to the mix by upgrading at linebacker and signing Azeez Al-Shaair on a three-year, $34 million pact.

Al-Shaair has always been rangy, but he never seemed to get his just due in San Francisco behind Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw. Given a chance to lead in Tennessee last season, he had his best season as a pro. He posted one of the NFL's lowest missed tackles rates for an off-ball linebacker and recorded nearly 25% of Tennessee's tackles on run plays when he was on the field, the second-highest rate of any player. In reuniting with former 49ers coordinator DeMeco Ryans, Al-Shaair gives Ryans some much-needed speed and quickness at the position.

10mil a year...and mixon wasnt out of desperation and penny pinching??? You can even convince yourselves of that now..

I'm not sure your point- if they wanted Henry and were feeling desperate, then they would have overpaid to get him. I don't see any desperation from the Texans, at all! It seems like your issue is you want them to behave more out of desperation, and they are not doing it.

At this point it seems to me that they have their eye on a specific Rb in the draft...which terrifies me since Casserio is known for overpaying on draft trades. Mixon and Singletary are almost identical backs so not mad...just know they had the chance and could have done better.

Like I said now we have added a position of need in the draft and have yet to really solidify any real positions.

I do not think that is correct. Right now they are missing a starting Defensive Tackle, a Starting CB, and they really need at least two additional DE (Derrek Bennet & Chase Young preferably) because Dylan Horton with cancer makes his return as a quality DE very questionable.

He defended himself from an attack?

Disagree on it being desperation, I wanted a guy like Barkley as well but fact is RB is the last position you should overspend on and is absolutely the position you should pinch pennies on. Lets be honest when was the last time that an elite RB was the key piece of a championship team. They are fun to watch and can have some great highlight moments but they rarely are the difference maker especially if you have an elite QB. For our purposes Mixon should be fine and I do like that he played all season last year.

wow...3 yr 41 mil...for Patrick Queen??? Its like we are losing out on purpose...Im not understanding this...
Maybe because the Texans already have a weak side LB...
Queen, 24, struggled in his first two seasons, missing 35 tackles and making mistakes in coverage. But his production increased after Baltimore acquired Smith, which allowed Queen to move from the middle to the weak side. The Ravens are expected to replace Queen with Trenton Simpson, who was drafted in the third round last year.
