Derek Stingley vs. Sauce Gardner

So you're telling me those 3TDs are not charged to any defender?
Nobody was responsible for them?
No accountabilty?
No goal line stand?

I wouldn't want a DC nor a HC with that mentality coaching my team.

I would rally to have them fired on the spot.

A 4-yd run and two 2-yd runs.
And the CB cannot be bothered to make an effort to prevent it?

That CB sits in the dog house until he shows he can give 100% effort in practice.
On those Richardson td runs, there was alot of wrongs going on. I meant Perryman got wiped out by Pittman Jr. His best attribute is run defense

No it’s not a “fact”. It’s football & they scored just as easily on the 1st TD run Richardson ran in from 18 yards ON THE OTHER SIDE away from Stingley.

Is that b/c he made a “bad” play too? He sucks b/c he didn’t run all the way across the formation to help Nelson and the front 7 in run support too?

like I said you sound dumb & you don’t know what you’re talking about.
If Deion can provide run support any CB that doesn't let the RB get up the sideline is adequate in run support. Deion had a real thing about avoiding contact and he was one of the best CB to ever play the position.

They're all bad.

You're getting silly by the minute.

Watch again

That's as weak A as you can see from a CB.
And you even raved that Stingley was doing his job.

I don't even need to say that you sound dumb.

but you seem to only want to focus on Stingley..this is your problem and why it’s flat out dumb.

the main run guys are out of position and/or are wiped out completely, & what you wanna focus on is the guy who has the least amount of responsibility who actually did what he was supposed to. Did he make the tackle, no, but he did what he was supposed to do it wasn’t inherently a “bad” play. Like I said mountain out of a molehill.

That’s what I’m trying to explain to your boy..a cb’s main job in that scenario is just what he did. Turn the runner inside towards the safety that should’ve been coming downhill to fill his gap and the scraping LB’s. Well as we can see Perryman gets wiped completely out and our 3rd string safety (MJ Stewart) is late filling in his gap. In the optimal scenario Richardson is limited to a few yards there b/c Perryman and Stewart don’t bite as hard on the play action going in the opposite direction & are there to fill there run gaps. Their offensive scheme triumphed over our defensive scheme there.

For Stingley’s part, yeah he could’ve shed the block a little bit better and perhaps made a better attempt at trying to tackle him, but that’s a far cry from bad. He’s 1 guy on that play who was in position & did what he was supposed to do which was turn the runner inside.

but according to you…teams keep running that way & scoring easily b/c of Stingley’s inability to do his little part in run support…..:ok:

I already said many times. This is a thread on Stingley so we talk about Stingley.
Then it's only relevant that we talk about CB run support.

Everybody knows that the guys up front are very important.

I'm saying that I had always wanted KJax because of that.
You need a guy who can make a stop on third down or who can prevent a score.
A CB who can consistently take the right angle, is aware of the way the play develops is the guy I want.

That's why I bet on KJax over Allen some years back.
I even made some sig bets with guys on the forum as to which guy the Texans were going to keep.

Ok..let’s leave it at that.

Great post and I hope the last sentence was directed at 76, because I'm in total agreement with you. In fact if Petrie and Ward had been healthy I'm betting plays that you described would've had a totally different outcome. My boy? LMAO

KJax and Allen didn't even play the same position. KJax sucked as a boundary CB and it wasn't until Wade moved him inside to the nickel did KJax flourish.

You're dead wrong.
I still had most of the tapes from the Kubiak era.

KJax was a very versatile DB.

He played mostly RCB at Alabama.
That was where he started out with the Texans.
Quinn played LCB in 2010.
But I think they switch places once in awhile.
I believe it was the plan to utilize KJax' versatility.

Allen came in late during the season and did not start a single game.
In the nickel package, Allen came in to play RCB (the same position he played with the Dolphins)

The Website I mentioned above had most of the info.
I don't remember exactly, but I think both KJax and Quinn had time at nickel, while the other play LCB.

The next year, 2011, the Texans brought in Joseph who also played LCB mostly with the Bengals.
They moved Quinn to safety.
Wade switched the two CBs initially.
KJax moved to LCB, JJo manned RCB.
But after awhile, they became interchangeable.
That year, KJax missed 3 starts and JJo 1 due to health issue.
Allen got the 4 spot starts then.

Again, when all 3 were on the field at the same time; KJax usually was at nickel.

They let Allen walk in 2012.

Kjax remain a versatile player.
He's still listed at LCB and JJo at RCB, but he played everywhere.

There was even one game when the Texans played Detroit; after Calvin Johnson's big first half, KJax asked Wade to let him shadow Johnson.
Wade Agreed, and KJax shut down Megatron in the second half.

Later on, the Texans also have him play at SS and sometimes at FS.

He eventually moved to safety in 2016 but still occasionally played at other positions, a role he continued to play with the Broncos.

TLTR

Dont care

Everybody knows KJax sucked until Wade moved him into the slot. I dont feel like wasting my time with you tonight.

To be quite honest, KJax could “never” perform with his back to the play.

I seem to remember making a recommendation that KJax should become a spokesman for Aloe Vera b/c it works so well on burns.

I also suggested he should’ve been moved to FS where his speed, willingness to hit, and eyes facing the play would’ve made him a perennial Pro Bowl starter.

Didn’t see this come to fruition until much later and with a new team. A real shame.

During the draft, I did say that KJax looks like a natural fit at safety.

The TD I mentioned that he stopped at the goal line was inside. He beat the crum to the RB.
He was good at blitzing and he was a great open field tackle.

His lacking inmeasurements and physical attributes is what prevented him from playing the ball.

Compare him with Sauce here:

It's very telling: Height, hand size, arm length, straight line speed, lateral speed (3-cone, shuttle), vertical jump, long jump.
Everything.

If KJax had had all those physical attributes, he would have been the total package.

His lack of speed showed him in trail position very often.
You can't play the ball when you can't keep up with the receiver

If he turns his head, the receiver is gone.

I’ve skipped the inane argument about what specific position Kareem Jackson played 12 years ago so am unsure if this has been posted but…

Derek Stingley 1 target, 0 receptions, 0 yards vs Colts.

Some very nice stats there in what you primarily want your CB doing. It’s a shame that the rest of the field was so wide open so quick but in a week where Sauce got burned and forced off twitter Derek had a lockdown game.

1. The Texans won the TOP by more than 9 mimutes.

2. The Colts did most of their damages on the ground and in the short and screen games.
Stingley play a lot of cover 3.

Look at the play by play.

See the tackles that Stingley made.
Those are either in the screen game or on a throw into the zone.
The receiver caught the ball (and because the throw was not quite accurate) and fall down as Stingley came to tap him for the ref to call the play dead

3. Check out the 43-yd catch by Mallory

Who's supposed to scout the players, get the doctors to clear them?
Not the HC.

Maybe Janice? :brando:

there’s no way to know how a guy’s going to fair injury wise when he gets in the NFL. People can guess, make assumptions but until they step on an NFL & go thru the rigors of an NFL season, you just don’t know. All these guys are playing with something by week 5 & what it comes down to is how willing a guy is to play injured is the real question. Some guys are willing to do it more than others.

Besides, plenty of guys with no significant injury histories come in and become injury prone.

its just what happens when you play a game as physical as the NFL.

The guy spent 3/4's of his college career injured, that should have been a clue.

Stingley was even on an All-Injury Prospect list.

yeah well, did CND predict a clean player like Jaycee Horn was gonna come into the league and immediately break his foot and miss 90% of his rookie year? Then turn around in year 2 and miss another 3 games…then turn around in year 3 and has already missed 1 game?

Everyone was all worried about Tua’s ankle when he came in. CND explained the tightrope procedure and how it would affect him. Well as it turns out, the thing that has threatened his career has been completely unrelated to that…it’s been concussions. Don’t think he had any history of those at bama.

What about Jeff Okudah? Clean as they come coming out of college. Nothing but injuries since hitting the league.

Trying to predict how injury prone a guy will be when he hits the league based on what his history was in college is AT BEST an educated guess. It’s a different more physical game than college. You guy act like these prognostications are certainties & they’re far from it.

yeah, means dick really. Like I said, plenty of guys have come in as clean prospects and become injury prone in the nfl.

Where is our data on how many college level injury prone players suddenly become healthy players in the NFL? We all know players get injured, that's just the way it is. But why take one that is ALREADY injured in the draft? And has a history of being injured. It didn't make sense when they drafted him, and it makes even less sense now.

How many Texans are dealing with hamstring injuries now? Did they all have foot injuries in college? Is there a correlation or is it something else? Poor warm-up routines maybe? Poor workout tendencies? Malpractice by the training staff? Or maybe just bad luck?

I'm gonna go with CND's theory that the lack of real practice, less preseason and more regular season is a big factor in injuries.

Because some players injured in college come to the pros and have stellar careers. At this time last week Nick Chubb fit that bill and then the injury that got him Sunday would have done the same to any player regardless of college career

“Healthy” is relative. There’s only playing and not playing. And just b/c they were able to suit up for every game in college doesn’t mean they’re healthy and will be able to suit up for now 17 games when they hit the NFL. There’s Literally no correlation.

Todd Gurley..jacked up knees coming out of Georgia. Everyone knew this. Didn’t stop him from coming in the league and suiting up for all but 1 game of his NFL career. Oh yeah, he was pretty damn good too.

I understand the point yall are trying to make. But with the 3rd pick in the draft? If they wanted him that bad they should have traded down for him. His college history should have been a red flag for a pick that high.

Such a thing as “knuckle conditioning” for boxers when they’re trying to get their hands ready to be able to absorb the impacts of landing multiple hard punches in a match.

Me thinks this is sort of the same type of effect your body may need when prepping for a football season.

eh, I don’t think it matters where the guy is picked, it’s whether you’re expecting contributions.

in this case trading down in the 1st round…even if we were able to trade down and get him in the teens, with us he still would’ve been expected to be a major contributor to this team in the midst of this rebuild….and even still, people would still be saying what they’re saying and comparing him to Sauce…” we could’ve stayed where we were and just got Sauce”..

All aboard the Nick Casserio excuse train. First stop, Clemson to delete trash. Next stop, David in the inner city. Keep your hands inside the keyboard at all times during your journey.
No excuses necessary, that was a Lovie pick promised by Cal, Lovie worked out both Stingley and Sauce, Caserio didn't, you think that was a coincidence that Stingley was the pick? Nope, Caserio got Lovie's guy. Just like Caserio went out and got Ryans guy Anderson. Lets hope Anderson works out better than Stingley has.

I'm going to keep being true to myself as I'm quite certain you will remain true to yourself too, but thanks for the advice.
