I hope DeMeco puts a spy on Richardson as he did not on Lamar Jackson last week.
We pretty much held LJ and the ravens in check when it comes to the running game...and I dont think indy is as dangerous on the ground compared to balt....so I trust Demeco and his defense to plan against indy accordingly and let the guys do what they do best.
As long as they are playing fast and committed I think we will be fine. Especially with WAJr wrecking the edges and creating havoc with his stunts

oh man....what in the heeeeellll?!?!?!
We have to have some kind of curse....we cant ever seem to be healthy or stay that way...its always a revolving door in injured players....smfh

Yep but with a scrambling Q, it is not only about the yards he gains, but how defense breaks down allowing complete d passes.

Here's interesting 2022 article addressing this situation.

************************************************

Lions LB coach Kelvin Sheppard not a fan of QB spy defense
Despite Eagles QB Jalen Hurts rushing for 90 yards on Sunday, Detroit Lions linebacker coach Kelvin Sheppard does not believe using a QB spy would have been an effective strategy.

From what I heard it's a grade 1 rotator cuff injury.

Not a trauma injury but one caused by repetitive use. This could be a long term issue.

6 weeks of rest usually will do the trick. He doesn't have that, so its going to be throwing on game day... not during the week and a lot of feel good pills for Sunday.

That's a regimen recipe for failure for both Stroud's shoulder and his Sunday performance. As far as performance, he is not a veteran and cannot afford not to practice with the team throughout the week.

Cal did not want Stroud. That was a Hannah/Janice collaboration.
Thanks CND we can always count on you.

This is why I have my doubts about Demeco, he has not come in and made this his team. Like so many other failed HCs that have gone before him, DeMeco is allowing others to make his mistakes for him.

I don't disagree. I dealt with rotator cuff injuries my whole sports career.

My first occurence with my "grade 1" was in highschool and there was a huge performance drop off.

I was able to keep it away for 2 years. Had I stuck to my "band" work, I probably would have never tore it.

My guess is CJ thought he was out of the woods in 21' and wasn't performing that tedious daily requirement. Only an assumption.

And what makes them better than Stroud?
Stroud was surrounded by a stable of future Pro Bowl WRs.

Stroud's OL, all will be playing in the NFL.

Stroud had 3 RBs with over 5.0 YPC and avg 190 yards per game.

Ryan Day coddled Stroud with quick outs or crosses over the middle.

It was a 1 read or check down for Stroud.

Knocks on Stroud is he panics under pressure and makes bad decisions.

Stroud scored an “18%” on the S2 cognition test, a cognitive test that focuses on processing and decision-making.

From my personal perspective, I've listened to hours of Stroud pressers and interviews, and he sounds like he is a bit IQ-challenged.

There is no doubt that Stroud is athletically gifted with excellent hand-eye coordination, but does he have the software to operate the machinery?

As a pitcher in my youth if I ever gave up 3 hits and more than a run, I was having a bad day. When I tore my rotator cuff I became a batting practice pitcher. Regardless of how much arm rest I had, I could never pitch again.

I also pitched in HS and college. Fortunately, I was never "blessed" with rotator cuff problem since I threw a submarine pitch. A partial tear of the rotator cuff can really affect a pitcher's career. But the significant weight and more awkward size and shape of a football places even more stress on a QB's rotator cuff. Rotator cuff tendonitis can be managed with unrelenting great awareness and attention to the problem. But the only way for a QB to completely avoid recurrence is to stop throwing the football and take up knitting.

How effective is surgery?

I was never in support of what they collectively gave up for the the #2 &#3 picks, the price was prohibitively high IMO.
So just draft Stroud or Anderson but not both but for whatever reasons they seemed to be hell bent on being all-in on Stroud ?
Anderson was always a relatively safe pick while any of QBs including the top three(Young, Stroud, Richardson), were going to
be risky to very risky.

If we're gonna go down this road of Stroud being injured or out a lot, I'd just as soon see Case take over the team. I'm sure it'd be Mills and not Case, but like seeing to many bad Star Trek reruns, I'm not into watching Mills anymore.

Um, there's no such thing as a bad Star Trek rerun.

As long as Cal, Hannah, and Janice are making football-related decisions we're screwed!

Question for you. I thought part of my rotator cuff problems were a result of me sleeping on my side. These thoughts gained more credence when I read that Atlanta Braves pitchers (Maddox, Glavine, Smoltz) had special pajamas and sheets made where they could button themselves in on their backs and keep them from moving to their sides during the night. Can sleeping on your side be detrimental to your rotator cuff?

I don't want to side track this thread. But here are some comments in response to your post. Sleeping on one side has been a debatable factor in creating rotator cuff tendonitis rather than exacerbating an existing cuff injury. Many times, it is caused by inflammation of the shoulder bursa which overlies the rotator cuff structures. But sleeping the side of a cuff that is damaged can increase the pain and progress the damage. One thing that is just as bad a culprit is sleeping on the back which many try to do to avoid the side sleeping. Unless the head of the bed is elevated at the waist or the arm on that side is elevated off the bed, laying on your back will place significant stress on a rotator cuff. BTW, a trick I use with my patients postoperatively to avoid turning on their sides while asleep is to place pillows under each armpit/arm. This can be used for rotator cuff problems also.

I completely agree. WAJ should have been the pick, and this season should have still been a rebuilding one. However, it was obvious that they were dead set on making a show of it this year, speeding up the clock to get butts in seats, cool the GM’s chair, they couldn’t sell a rebuilding year after completely failing the two years before to do it right, unfortunately receiving a dollar today to pay 1.25 tomorrow is only good in the short term. If the goal is to compete and win a championship there are no quick fixes when the cupboard is nearly empty, they’ve tried one and it sold very well to the fans and the enthusiasm is there. What people aren’t realize is that they have most likely sacrificed the chance at real future successes for the benefit of mere competitiveness this season. The trade up was already incredibly risky for this reason, the roster wasn’t good, the coaches are wet behind the ears, and only a few bad breaks could send them picking high again. Now instead of that being a windfall, a hedge against uncertainty, it’s will just be a reminder of incompetence.

There is very little literature on this subject for NFL QBs since it is uncommon. Very unpredictable would be an honest response. Those who have undergone the surgery (in the throwing shoulder), return is probably close to 20%..........and return to previous performance is virtually a given to be at best ~50%

The kind of info you can only get on this site.

Great post

This is what I've been trying to tell posters since the draft. This has fallen on deaf ears. Probably because they were slurping down battle red kool-aid.

Probably because it's in the past and nothing can be done by whining about it now. Support your team

You can still support your team and point out issues and probable failures. In fact if you dont do this you're not an objective fan.
