Texans random thought of the day

The letterman jackets were perceived no differently by the Texans fanbase than by "outsiders" [except momentarily].........the embarrassment should have been predictable..............because they were who they were.

Again, focusing on the outside. The Fanbase is not the team. It's the guys on the team that are the team. And they were feeling pretty good about themselves.

IF (and notice that's an uppercase if because it's a BIG if) they had been able to continue their winning ways, then that could have been a watershed moment for the team. It didn't work out that way and ended up being exactly the opposite.

But to me, it doesn't matter what anyone outside the locker room thinks about those team building moments.

It's like when the Patriots were 1-3 and just lost a game 10-30 against the Dolphins. Belichick buried a football in front of the team as a motivational thing (a couple of times I think.) If his team hadn't turned it around after that, it would have been a joke. They turned it around and it became a great move.

The jackets weren't the problem. People's perceptions of the Texans weren't the problem. The problem was that Kubiak wouldn't acknowledge that Matt Schaub was toast by that point.

If a player goes on IR before the regular season starts, that player must miss the entire season. So when is the official start of the season? Thursday Sept 7? Sunday the 10th? With practice on Monday Sept 4?

When could Green be placed on the regular season IR?

(edit) Tuesday, Aug 29, after 3pm?

On asking the question because I remembered something different, Google shows this at the top of the page.

Per NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo, the NFL and NFLPA agreed to amended IR rules during the 2022 offseason. Each team can now designate up to eight players to return from the Reserve/Injured or Non-Football Injury/Illness List. Each player may be designated to return twice in one season. Aug 18, 2022

I imagine that is still in force

What you posted is accurate, just not complete per my source. It's current as of July, 2023.

If a player is placed on this list before the regular season begins, he’s forced to miss the entire year.

The same used to be the case if a player went on IR during the regular season, but the rules have been tweaked and amended a few times in recent years. Starting last year, players need to miss a minimum of four games. NFL teams can designate up to eight players to return from IR during the season, and an individual player can be so designated twice.

The season starts at the cut deadline. Anybody you place on IR before the deadline is out for the season. If you place someone on IR after the roster has been set (Tuesday @ 3:00 CT), then they can be designated to return.

Metchie was kept out of the Saints game reportedly as a precaution. He sustained a Grade II hamstring the very beginning of OTAs and only in July returned to practice. Metchie has had setbacks since his OTA injury. When he recently returned, he has actually still had further issues with his hamstring..............so technically he has been kept out as a precaution..........as to not extend his injury and prolong his recovery.

From July 25>

Had high hopes for this dude, but it seems he's going in the direction of the Bennie Joppru's & Braxton Miller's of Texans teams of the past. That player who had so much promise, but hardly ever...... or never suits up for us b/c of 1 thing or another...usually relating to injury.

That is correct. This rule came into affect last season.

Pretty soon I expect the NFL to merge with the WWE.............as time goes on, they are becoming more and more alike.........pretty soon they may become entirely indistinguishable............

I've said this since the Saints, Rams NFCCG. God'ells NFL is scripted in order to maximize profits.

Predetermined outcomes just like the WWE. Look at the Chiefs, Bengals AFCCG as another example.

Pre-season over and it feels almost like after last regular season with a bit more optimism and excitement. Come on September 10th.
Hey BB I'm with you man, because I'm really starting to get pumped about the Demeco Ryans 2023 Houston Texans regular season, and I haven't felt like this for several seasons !

Then they should just go ahead and do the surgery. No need to put him out there and have him perform like an UDFA. How long is the recovery time on this surgery? Obviously they aren't going to put him on IR or they already would've done this. How much rest would it take for Green to be able to perform at an avg level. Is this shoulder injury related to the shoulder injury that happened last yr and if so why didn't they do the surgery this offseason?

I wish they would get him the surgery, get him healthy and get a complete offseason with the NFL S&C coach. You probably would see a guy worthy of a 1st rd pick if the Texans chose this direction. They wont do this because of draft status and the money he's being paid.

This is symptomatic of the larger issue over the past few years. Not recognizing that the moves they make not only affect this season but those down the line. A now with the trade they find themselves increasingly in places where they are sacrificing the teams growth down the road for a season where they have absolutely no shot at competing for a title. They basically threw a Hail Mary on the first play of the game to energize the fanbase and save Casserio's job. From jump its was incredibly risky with no upside over the ACTUAL goal of winning the SB, it does however have tremendous upside if the goal was energizing the fan base and cooling Casserio's seat. Casserio likes to drive uninsured without a seatbelt, which is why he didn't think twice about trading away next year's pick. It was smoke and mirrors from the jump, and it could get real ugly fast if the O-line isn't healthy, almost the worst case scenario.

I guess this post was wrong. LOL

I listened to part of Casserio's press conference this morning. Most of the time you cannot hear the questions that are asked........and the Texans speakers never routinely repeat the questions before answering them. I've written to the Texans in the past regarding this problem, with no evident response.

It is unbelievable to me that the Texans can spend multi-millions on everything, but can't afford to spend $1000 to purchase a professional broadcast directional amplified microphone and have an employee point it to the media person asking the question. But obviously that would be too much to ask for enhancing the "fan experience."

Unless it's a really important presser, I rarely listen to them because of this.
