By that logic no rookie should ever start.

Stroud has everything to prove still, no question about that. He's played zero snaps of a real NFL game. The criticism of him is one thing, and most likely warranted since he's never played an NFL snap, but to think he should sit and watch Mills for a game or 2, 3, 6 or whatever, well, that just doesn't do anybody any good.

Sure, Aaron Rodgers sat for 3 years but in his 1st 11 starts he had;
63.5% completions, 17 TD, 9 INT, 90.5 passer rating.
Davis Mills 1st 11 starts;
66.8% completions, 16 TD, 10 INT, 88.8 passer rating.

Point being, there is no tried and true formula when it comes to sitting vs. starting right away. Rookies, or 1st time starters, are going to struggle and make mistakes. Period. Talent and how they grasp the game will determine the rest.

The Aaron Rodgers example is terrible, simply because he had a HoF QB starting ahead of him.

I think you're missing his point. No one in their right mind would argue or try to debate if Favre or Rodgers is better than Mills...the point was Rodgers SAT FOR 3 YRS learning from Favre and yet Rodgers and Mills' numbers are basically identical...also one could argue that GB had a better overall team and line when Rodgers started.

I would be willing to roll the dice and take a risk on a FA QB that will only be a third string QB. He could end up being a nice 2nd stringer to replace Keenum at some point.

I think his point is that he's questioning how useful it actually is to sit down behind a low level starter such as Mills.

I wanted to trade a late rd pick for Lance and sign a QB in FA to compete for the starting job and if Mills/Lance didn't look like a franchise QB, then you would have a boatload of picks in 2024 and draft the QB in 2024.

Personally, I love it. So cheesy.

I don't understand why owners can't enjoy the fact that they own a football team. It's their team. If they want to meddle, then let them meddle. If I had enough money to buy a team, I'd be meddling. Hell, I'd full-on be Jerry Jones running the team like my personal Madden Franchise. There wouldn't be a coach or GM in the league that would want to come work for me except for the amount of money I was offering them.

All sports are just entertainment. Some are just better monetized than others.

Owning a sports team isn't really about winning and losing or about being entertaining or about making money. Owning a sports team is about whatever that owner wants it to be about. Some are going to be hands off, some are going to try to make as much money as possible, and some are going to try everything they can to win.

As fans, we can only hope that our team wins and is exciting regardless of why the owners are doing it.

How has that worked out for Jerruh and the boys. Jerruh has made lots of money. But Cowboys fans I've talked to have been just as frustrated in their team as Texans fans...........not that enjoyable entertainment for decades.

I'm sure Jerry has had a lot of fun with it. I don't think he cares about the fans, and as an owner, he has every right not to.

That's what I'm saying.

That's not great for us. We want owners who are focused on winning and making good decisions to make that happen, but owners are under no compunction to do that.

If an owner doesn't want to win and only wants to maximize profits, then I won't vote for his new playpen and he can move his team if he sees fit. No skin off of my back. I can either be entertained by watching them on TV or find another form of entertainment.

QFT. You nailed it.

The Texans do not have the luxury of sitting a first round QB for three seasons while he develops and learns behind a HoFer.

They will gain nothing by starting Mills. It'll just delay the inevitable learning curve that CJ has to eventually face.

good post. I believe they truly want to win. Cal is trying. But look at him, he’s just awkward in the public sphere. I like it personally. No way does he ever come across as arrogant While hitting all the current social convention buttons. He really looks like that wasn’t his idea. Btw, just wondering how many posters taking shots at him have ever promoted elevated images of their own social condition?

I'm gonna be honest.


Nobody's polyester cotton blend letterman jacket played a down. Not one jacket covered in sweat after 2 a' day's sat in a gap waiting to blitz. Not one letterman jacket got spritzed with perfume by some sophomore blonde hoping to lose her virginity. (Or so I hope.)

It was a throwback and it was cool. It was gd cool as hell and I for one loved it. I remember high school pep rallies when the drummers went nuts and I loved it.

You guys blame jackets? How bout a team that didn’t have enough talent? Why are jackets in our lore? Why are folks overlooking Jason babin's scouting report exclaiming what a stud he'd be for eating glass?

We traded draft picks for a small school kid because he ate glass. And then we traded supplemental picks for a 1 year flash in the pan rb with a catastrophic knee injury...

Let's not blame that.

You've missed the whole point of the post. The jackets were to be a symbol of strength, bonding, power and success. The Texans had a history of neither. They were already a joke to the NFL audience. The jackets only made them a greater laughing stocking. You don't flaunt......until you have something to flaunt. We still are far from a position to flaunt anything.

The Texans have always tried to "sell" soley based on the promises of potential........potential to this day that has yet to ever be realized.

It's time to fire Wimpy from marketing our Texans................

For me, it's a matter of focus.

What you're focusing on is what it signified to people outside the organization.

What I would focus on is what it meant to the players.

You're seeing that the jackets were supposed to be a statement to people outside the organization that we thought we were strong and successful.

I look at the jackets as the players saying, to themselves, we're a team, we've got each other's backs, and we can do this.

They immediately got a wake up call when they got punched in the face. But I still look at that as a nice try to build camaraderie inside the team. Failed? Yes. But you can't win them all.

Personally, I never care what people outside the organization are saying, thinking, or doing about us. They can laugh at us all they want. That doesn't matter to me. You don't build a great team by focusing outwards.

If I WAS looking outward, I wouldn't choose letterman jackets as a way to convey being strong and successful because they're cheesy and sophomoric.

The letterman jackets were perceived no differently by the Texans fanbase than by "outsiders" [except momentarily].........the embarrassment should have been predictable..............because they were who they were.

Entering the letterman jacket game, the Texans were 11-1 and playing some of the best football in franchise history. Then, they met Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and the Patriot dynasty in Gillette Stadium. And what happened to the Texans is what happened to many teams that did not wear letterman jackets. They were dismantled. Kubiak couldn't figure out how to attack the Patriot defense. Wade Phillips couldn't find a way to slow down Brady and the offense. The Texans just weren't good enough. Jackets weren't necessary to find that out.

In 2016, before the Texans played in New England during the regular season for the first time since the 2012 loss, defensive end J.J. Watt said he had no clue where his jacket was, adding he hoped he didn't still have it laying around.

"Those are some bad memories," Watt said at the time. "I don't want to bring that back up at all. Those were some bad days."
