Texans random thought of the day

He’s going to have to be careful. What if screen shots of his posts that could be construed as racist found their way to Hannah’s Texans marketing Department. No problem there but using a message board name that is a game day uniform trademark…intellectual property…that’s called NEXUS and Hannah may not like the way Texans intellectual property is being used to promote a certain agenda. Doesn’t matter what we think. It’s what the “gold digger and her husband Cletus think is an infringement on their trademarks.
LMAO, I will change my member name the minute I receive a cease and desist order from one of there lawyers.

You must really not like me very much personally to have this thought process, which is sad because all we're really discussing and debating a form of entertainment. Don't take life so seriously and take time to smell the roses.

It’s a thought process that affects this MB that you don’t seem to care about. Let’s just call it an obvious observation from someone who has worked with attorneys throughout their career and dealing quite a bit with intellectual property. I don’t like your “form of entertainment” either. You can’t write this crap off like a teenager.

I'll have my lawyer advise me if it comes to that.

I wonder if changing my name to SBT would do the trick. Maybe the mods can help me with this.

I thought the McNair's don't care about what is said on MB's? LMAO

Care to tell me how my opinions affect this MB and I always thought opinions were just that and you certainly can't prosecute free speech. But I guess with what happened again today the 1st Amendment doesn't exist anymore.

This isn’t about the McNairs or free speech. I just tried to remind you that your posts, that many I consider as subtle racism, can offend the wrong people. It’s about your unhinged hate agenda. I’m using my free speech to tell you that it disturbs me and I’m sure many others. its not like you exercised your free speech and stated your views of certain people and then let it go. You constantly bring in non football insinuations about whoever is on your daily hate list and these insinuations frankly are disgusting. Epithets like dumb or dumb as dirt, inner city, father in jail, gold digger, etc. These are not necessary to the football discussion and only mean one thing…hate. But of course people like you, when called out always have to bring up their rights while stomping on others rights with denigrating references to someone’s character or culture. Lol, and you’ve whined before that I was attacking you, no doubt to get the attention of the Mods. Manipulative, no? If your posts are OK on this board then ANYTHING goes here.

So it's improper to call Stroud dumb because he's a minority? This just in, when Mills makes mistakes like he did that cost them the Bears game I called him dumb too.

As far as calling David from the inner city what I call him, look at his client list and you will find that he's not only a racist, but after the crap with Derrick that he Avery and Burney are trash enablers and I would say this regardless of their race.

Gold Diggers- that's my opinion of Hannah, feel free to disagree.

Inner city- You don't know this but I work with and am friends with many clients that run section 8 housing. They've helped pay my bills for the last 25 years. Misconceptions are that all people who live in Section 8 housing are minorities, this isn't true, more single white mothers live in Section 8 housing than minorities. Also the trashy people who live in Section 8 housing are referred to as trash or worse by the managers of all colors including the minority managers.

You should come to our crawfish boil next yr during the draft and you will see that I'm blessed to have become friends with people of all races, religions etc.. It's a gathering of clients, friends, family and some TT MB members make it out t to it too. It's a good time and would give us the opportunity to meet each other. If you make it I bet you will leave with a different opinion than your current opinion of me.

I'm comfortable in my life so your opinions ofe don't really matter much if at all. We can talk about the progress Strouds made and where he needs to improve after his rookie yr.

Caserio said in press conferences and prior to drafting Stroud that he would deal with all agents even Mulugheta. He said he would not avoid Mulugheta.

Straight from the horses mouth. And his quotes were posted here too. National media headlines are just for generating clicks.

I like to ask people that throw the word "racist" at others to show exactly what they are pointing to.
I don't recall seeing anything that would indicate that.
This is what happens today when someone disagrees. It can't simply be a disagreement, it's has to be racist, sexist, or pick your word with "phobic" at the end of it. Not arguing in the least either, just intrigued and would rather look for myself.

Texans thought of the day?
I really like them.

If you cannot tell then that’s on you for being blind to the obvious facts. Check the history!

You can’t tell a guy who is asking for an example and the reply if you don’t know that’s on you.

I can’t blame a blind guy for not knowing the colors of the rainbow. He is blind for crying out loud!

It doesn’t help anyone and leads to a questioning someone’s credibility.

If anything you are validating the claim that as soon as someone disagrees with someone else they are quick to say racist, sexist, or homophobic.

First off, you don’t need to change your MB name. The Texans property is displayed all over this Board. McNairs can do what they want. Will they? I don’t know or care. It would be easy for them. Case in point. I keep a bottle of Luckenbach Road bourbon in my liquor cabinet. They are changing their name now because Luckenbach sued them for using their name. They are not in Luckenbach but on the road between Sisterdale that everyone calls Luckenbach road. It’s that petty and easy to get sued over trademark issues. I’m not buying your inner city baloney. You know the context you were using it in. Period. Don’t you get it that the Texans and their players support many inner city programs? Do you think it is possible that people in the inner city read this MB? Do you believe for a second that the context in which you throw around inner city makes them feel comfortable and inclusive? That’s just one reason to understand how that crap affects this MB.

. . .you certainly can't prosecute free speech. But I guess with what happened again today the 1st Amendment doesn't exist anymore.

For the record, Texans Talk is a private entity and the 1st Amendment does not apply here. The owner of the site can determine to limit any conversations about whatever he chooses, which is why religious and political talk are heavily discouraged here. Those subjects are not conducive to a healthy football forum

The 1st Amendment has to do with the limits of GOVERNMENT regulating free speech, not private entities.

Steel - when you stick to stuff that happens between the white lines, you have some interesting takes. The problem starts when you make it consistently personal and your use of dog whistles and other tropes don’t go unnoticed. Unintentional or not, and I tend to think you have a blind spot there…it’s not a good look and I say that as a friend.

I’m as white as a sheet, but I never bring up a player or agents race or other personal attributes. In fact, nobody pounded the table harder for DeMeco then me. I couldnt care less if he was orange. Look at the man and size him up for what he does and how he conducts himself, not for who he hangs with or what race his agent is.

If you don’t like CJ for his play - totally fair to criticize. I critiqued Davis hard last year. But I never once called Davis dumb. Does he sometimes make a dumb decision. Yes but playing QB at this level takes more than just plain brain power. Athleticism , instincts, etc play a huge role. We don’t yet know if CJ has what it takes, but if he fails it’s not because of his inner city agent, or the fact that he patterns his game after Vick or Watson. Those types of criticisms really have no place. Keep it between the lines!

You are a staff member and since you felt it ok to extend this conversation, I'll make a comment. You are correct that the 1st Amendment applies to the Government and not to the private sphere, but limiting free speech in the private sphere is a good indicator of how the public views personal freedom, and recent polling shows the younger generation is quite accepting of government restrictions on our freedom. I'll not comment further on this.

What are you babbling about "intellectual property" for? The Team gave the owner of this board permission to keep and run the board. (Hookem didn't just start the board with stolen "intellectual property"This used to be the official board, if the Texans didn't want the board here or had a problem with it being here..it wouldn't be here. And guess what all of this was handled without useless overpriced lawyers..the way it should be.

Good question and this might be the wrong forum to answer your question.

To @Texansballer74 's reference to history. For many years, African Americans were not given the opportunity to play QB in the NFL. Many people and NFL owners thought they were too "dumb" to play the position or be the face of their franchise. Think about Warren Moon who had to play in the CFL before even getting a chance to play in the NFL.

Today, progress has been made at the QB position. Knowing that history and the sensitivity of the topic, why go out of your way to call a black QB dumb? It's simply trolling, insensitive or trying to trigger people. It's not a disagreement or misspeak. It's a deliberate attempt to stir the pot. Whether intentional or not. It's a dog whistle and unnecessary.

Ryan Fitzpatrick has one of the highest Wonderlic scores in NFL history. He graduated from Harvard, had a long career and threw some of the worst INTs in NFL history. You never hear anyone call Fitzpatrick dumb for the many INTs he threw into double coverage or his consistently, inconsistent performances. So, if you watched Fitzpatrick for 17 years making just horrible decisions that led to people calling him FitzTragic and never thought about calling him dumb, why call a 21-year-old kid who has not even thrown his first NFL pass, dumb?

To @Dejaview 's point. David Mulugheta's parents are from Africa, he graduated from UT and worked his way from an internship at Athlete's First to being one of the top sports agents in the world and have negotiated over $1.3 billion dollars for his clients. By many accounts this is an example of an American success story. So, why mention inner city when you reference Mulugheta? It has nothing to do with football or his ability to negotiate $1.3 billion dollars for his clients. Whether intentional or not. It's a dog whistle and unnecessary.

Do we know if Mulugheta is even from the 'inner city'? I certainly don't know.

I know he's from somewhere in/around Dallas. I know that much like Houston Dallas has much, much more than just 'inner city'.

I've just done a tad bit of the google but haven't really found for sure. Anyone actually know, could share a link perhaps?

Great point. I'm not even sure anyone on this forum even knows.

I know the history of this MB. Lol, if the Texans property were “stolen” you think the Texans still haven’t figured it out? But you can be sure that the Texans didn’t want controversial agendas promoted with their logos plastered everywhere here.

Just to point out what appears to be the obvious to me.

Someone calling Stroud dumb and someone not thinking so, is in fact a disagreement, unless that word's definition has changed.
Did a poster here really "Go out of their way" to call him dumb or is that just their viewpoint?
Maybe you are going out of your way to pick apart a post and find a racist comment being made so you can further a narrative?

I don't know if that is the case or not, only providing a different perspective to consider. Not blaming.

So calling any Black American QB "dumb" has to be because of race and past NFL history, not because they might actually be dumb?
I like Stroud and do not think he's dumb, but if he did something dumb, he's not getting a pass simply because the color of his skin.
Because that might construed as, well... racist.

I've tried several times to persuade posters from constantly digging into content they find disagreeable when it's just done in hopeless circles. Just let those posts die alone without tilling up the new/regurgitated versions. No matter how abhorrent you thing the content of them are, just let them whither away until they are fewer and fewer from lack of new stimuli.
Random thought. Every year, new players are joining the team and bringing new fans to the team and even this forum. If you ignore some of the content you find abhorrent and these new fans and potential posters are reading this forum, does the lack of response turns off the potential new posters because they feel this is accepted by posters on this forum?

Yes they went out their way to call him dumb/stupid. And like I said there’s a history/pattern. That young man hasn’t done anything to be ridiculed like that. Now if he starts doing outlandish crap, by all means call him out on it.

Let's get one thing clear. I don't pick apart any post to find racist comments or try to push racial agendas on this forum. I even reluctantly responded to your question because it's a conversation that doesn't play well on internet forums, context is lost and leads to even more disagreement.

Edit: See @Porky's post below. He did a better job explaining than I did.

It's really pretty simple -

Acceptable - He made a dumb play, He needs to use more smarts next time, What was he thinking - he threw it right to the defender, he hasn't shown he has grasped this offense.

Not acceptable - He is dumb because of who he hangs out with or how he speaks, what do you expect when he signs with David from the inner city, I guess you have to expect that when his father is a drug dealer, he's Clemson trash, he's Nigerian trash. He is obviously dumb because he scored low on his S2.

The first keeps it between the lines and isn't a personal attack using racial dog whistles. If you can't figure out which of these shouldn't have a place not only on this board, but in society more broadly, then I don't what to tell you.

But nooooo, you just had to go off the deep end, didn't ya'. :smiliepalm:

I don't make the rules, pal, I just enforce them. :howdy:

Enjoy the football season and related talk.

This is true, but the negotiations to keep the official board was made in good faith. The people that made that agreement are no longer with this forum or the Texans.

However, it is naive to think that the continued public slander and derogatory remarks about ownership and players can never be noticed by a multi-billion dollar corporation. It's this kind of baseless, inflammatory language that potentially hurts their brand.

I get blowing off steam and making snide remarks. It happens and most of us have probably done it.

But, there has been a consistent stream of negative insults that could be construed as defamation.

And the margins of running this forum are so slim that it will go away with one letter from a legal entity representing Houston Texans, Inc., simply because nobody here has the desire or money to fight that particular fight.

Why can't fans just talk about FOOTBALL without all the idiotic insults?

I'm a black man & I think it's ridiculous that you can't call a black man dumb for fear of being called a racist.

I've been called dumb on many occasions & never did I think the aHole calling me dumb was being racist.
Im a black man too and have been around for a hot minute. And imo it’s wrong to call anyone that you don’t know/never met before dumb, stupid or ignorant all because you don’t like them.

And we all know when whoever is being racist.

He ain’t worth the f***ing trouble but 80% of the posts here keep playing that stupid f***ing game to where finding info and expressing thoughts as fans of the Texans has turned into having to wade through a ton of bullshit to do so.

This place used to be a great source for finding Texans info. Not so much anymore. Now it’s basically Steel B Talk .com. I mean I’ve had the dude on ignore for a couple of years or so and all I see is steel b talk. Pretty f***ing ridiculous.

To your first paragraph I wish more people would realize that who they disagreed with.

To your second - this was more of a problem created by having a bad team and the everything that came with the Watson drama and tanking the last two years.

The change in energy the last couple of months especially the last two weeks has been massive.

The posts by zshawn10 and Texansballer74 that have the tweets of action at training camp are what I log in for in the mornings. The best information there.

Nothing subtle about it.

You’re not wrong until you ignore the fact that this isn’t the only instance. See Watson and Rick Smith posts from just recent history.

To me it’s pretty obvious and is part of the reason I put him on ignore at least a couple of years now or so. That and so that I wouldn’t be tempted to respond to the dumbassery a lot on this board just can’t stay away from and risk getting slapped on the wrist by the powers that be here.

So @steelbtexan has a right to voice his opinion whether you/we like it or not. Sometimes he's right and sometimes he's wrong. I actually think he's good for the site, especially in the off-season when membership participation is especially low. He keeps people talking.

I'd acknowledge he's targeted a lot of black team members to include Rick and Watson. I'd agree there's a trend there with racial undertones I don't especially like. I've said as much, and subsequently, some of my posts have been deleted by mods. And yet, he's also always consistently trashed the white owners of the Texans. So make of it what you will.

I choose to think of him as the Dennis Rodman of this site or maybe a Howard Stern type. He's a shock jock. If he said agreeable bs, no one would notice ,and a lot of conversations would die. He spurs talk. That's good for this site, and every story needs a villain. He's unapologetic about playing that part, and I respect him for it.

Additionally, his presence here also represents the freedom we have as posters to speak our minds. He stretches a lot of boundaries, whether it's agreeable or not, and I commend the mods for allowing most of it. I want and expect the same freedom for all posters.

You've ignored him and complained about the posts responding to him? You have the freedom to ignore those posters who respond - so do it. It's the internet and not everything you find will suit you. I respect your right to say whatever's on your mind like I respect his. If you encourage mods to restrict him, your encouraging mods to restrict everyone. Pick a different battle.

It's good to see the huge spike in viewership. 6 days till they hit the field!

I’m not sure I gave a reason for you to think which should have a place. I ask questions, didn’t blame and have possible alternatives for what another person interpreted.

I didn’t cite specific instances outside of what the poster I responded to said himself. I have always been more than willing to read and determine what is and is not acceptable.

I’m not for calling names or insulting. This is another reason why people don’t wish to engage in other areas. There is always someone waiting to be offended and call someone aname when unwarranted.

I love the Texans and wish everyone here the best but it’s now the third time since I’ve been here people have picked things apart to be argumentative for no reason to do so.

Take care everyone. Truly wish ALL of you the best.

People disagree. In a message board format there are sometimes communication barriers. It's very easy to misconstrue things. I don't think anyone meant offense. It's not worth leaving over.

I guess the thing I keep "sensing" (sp?) here is the racial criticism. And it disgusts me.
