Texans random thought of the day

So, you trust a company you've never heard of until a month ago? BTW, what is the name of this trustworthy company?
NFL teams obviously trust them because they pay good money for this service for the last5 yrs, so this isn't that small of a sample size. So yeah, I trust their data.

Like I told Lucky, you either believe their data or you don't. There's really no sense in further discussion of this matter. I feel as though I've wasted far too much time going back and forth saying thee are things.

All this hoopla over a test no one knows anything about. It's silly at best until scores are presented and years of on the field play can validate.

If it were silly then half the NFL teams would not use it.

Aptitude testing has been around forever in different forms.

We can have a meaningful discussion around how much it plays into the overall assessment of an athlete, and specifically a QB.

Such as, do we have a large enough sample size to have a high degree of certainty about the premise that no low-scoring QB has been successful in the NFL? If not, how much longer would we need to see this trend continue before it would be considered valid? There have always been exceptions to the Wonderlic, but so far none on the S2. From all reports I've read they have tested most if not all QB's eligible for the draft over the past 6 years, along with about 25 QB who were currently starting in the NFL at the time they were tested. When is critical mass reached?

Just don't attempt to invalidate empirical data because you don't personally like it.

You know how I look at the present validity state of the S2. But I'm sure that if Stroud had scored a 95 percentile, you and many others would be hyping up its predictive value. It's only natural human nature. In the end, it will be up to Stroud to prove his true value.

I agree with your take to a point, but it isn't really fair to say I would do that. I haven't been on this board drinking the stroud kool-aid, nor am I one of the two individuals falling over themselves to point out his faults repeatedly. I am simply hopeful the young man can become something good on the field.

Just don't attempt to invalidate empirical data because you don't personally like it.

You can do as you wish, but I will invalidate the S2 until it has been around long enough to prove trends, especially while one or two here want to use it as the end all be all to prove Stroud is stupid.

You’d have to be a right sad act to post on this forum if you didn’t hope to heaven that Stroud completely invalidates this newfangled pseudo science.

Texans are going to be at the center of rumors because they have the cap space to pay him. And they can create more by cutting Kirksey and restructuring Howard. But I don’t want to give Hopkins a one year deal. Even if that makes the team better this season. I think it’s best in the long run to give the young players reps and let them build together.

But with the first round pick already traded to the Cardinals maybe they go in on making a run for that AFC South banner? Hopkins would put them in the driver’s seat for the division imo. Though I think they can compete for it regardless.

He just got released for missing practices and attitude... you wanting him to teach this young team? NO THANKS! He's a great WR but is nit a great person imo

I'm not so sure you're right on that JB. I think it was mostly money. Arizona and Houston are two ships passing in the night. Houston is on the upswing, and are making moves that tell me they are on the cusp of competing again. Arizona is on a downward spiral, and even with Hop wasn't going to compete this year. They likely have a top 5 pick next year. It's a salary dump imho.

Now, it's also possible Hop doesn't help himself. He can be a bit surly and selfish at times. I don't deny that, but I don't think he's a locker room cancer either. If that's where you're going I'd have to disagree. His talent is unquestioned and he'd be the instant 1A starter on this team and I think he's got something to prove and I love guys with a chip on his shoulder.

If Nick can make it happen, I'm all in on Hopkins.

It’s an interesting take and very different to mine.
Reports suggested he was enough of a distraction around the locker room with his baby-mama’s and entourage, skipping practices etc that the Texans initially blamed Watson’s behaviour on his bad influence.

You also had reports he was cooking up plays in defiance of his coach.

The kind of stuff that gets swept under the carpet when you think you are building towards winning, but it quickly unravels if you don’t make it there, up for debate if it’s part of the cause or not, but 2 teams now have certainly decided to part ways with Nuk as soon as they’ve realised they’ve summited their peak.

The only one with that type of data is the creator and his team. Maybe a few teams, agents and the players. I have not seen anyone post those type of results. That dude is going off of what he read on here. And even the people who posted it can’t generate that particular data.
Chad Forbes was one guy who posted the scores.

Tony Pauline was another and I think Brugler also posted this yrs scores.

The problem is that even with combines & pro days & interviews & college careers & Wonderlick & S2 people like Mahomes still get passed over by 9 teams.

How do players like Wes Welker, James Harrison, Antonio Gates, Tony Romo, Kurt Warner, Arian Foster go undrafted when we have teams filled with people that make their living evaluating players.

I can see the value of the S2 as one more tool in a teams arsenal to try & find the next Brady but I'm hesitant to put much faith in any one thing to carry enough weight to say this man will or won't make it as NFL QB.

Just my opinion but even with the S2 I still think the hunt for that magical franchise QB we all want is just as big of a crap shoot as it has always been.

You know what, I think I really like Jimmy Ward.
He reminds me of that comedian on TV who does all of the commercials: he's funny as hell, they are both funny as hell.
He's also a very good player. A guy I wanted RS to pick back in the day. A guy that can play either S spot and nicke at a high levell is very valuable.

Has anyone actually described it as "science"? Although I'd say that testing and measuring human reaction in not "pseudo" anything.

Of course it was mostly money, but the guy misses at least 1 practice a week even when coming back from injury. He's a great WR but I don't think he's a good role model. He's the Harden of football

Harden of football is a pretty good comparison. He will produce if you have him, but he’s not going to help out the younger talent and he’s definitely not going to teach them how to be a pro.

But if DeMeco and Caserio think they can handle him while still installing their culture then they buy a bonafide WR1 for a season. They have the Browns pick next year which is likely going to be a WR if the draft were today. Would give the team a year in advance having that production. But which young players will lose valuable reps at Hopkins’ expense? How many wins does he really add at the end of the day?

If the pros outweigh the cons, then the Texans will get a deal done. They are one of the few teams with the cap space to do so.

I never remember Nuk being an attitude problem or ever running off at the mouth either.

And nobody is coming into a DeMeco locker room and dragging the place down, if anyone thinks this I’m not sure they fully comprehend who we have as head coach now.

Whoops

Cousins would be a good example of what I think Stroud will become. Very avg and very overpaid in a little over three years.

Cousins is decent. He is just way overpaid like you said. I would honestly hope they trade Stroud for some decent picks and move in a different direction if that comparison ends up being spot on. But I doubt they would unless he wanted out at that point in time. And a lot depends on how many important victories he brings to the table in the next three years.

FYI..........The Texans were one of the teams that reported David Canter (Dell's agent) for misconduct. Following confirmation by the League, Stroud was subsequently given a release to speak to the public.

This is how I see this plating out in 3 yrs. I think we all know what Cuck is going to do.

So fake news, if you don't have the results.
SMH

All news is fake news unless it comes from a nfl org or the player himself? Do you really want to play this game? Things over the next 6 nonths are going to get really interesting around these parts.

But not all teams believe in it

I think you have Richardson and Hooker mixed up
I choose to believe the teams that spent the money. They spent the money for a reason. They're happy with the service provided to them.

Richardson scored higher than the 48 that Hooker scored

This is way too early to make valid evaluations regarding future performance. When I hear anyone in the Texans organization use the phrase "way ahead of pace [schedule]", I get very nervous............1685708144048.png

C.J. Stroud working with first-team offense and is “way, way ahead of pace”
Posted by Charean Williams on June 1, 2023, 8:00 PM EDT

Texans rookie C.J. Stroud took first-team reps this week in organized team activities. Although it has been billed as a quarterback battle between Stroud and Davis Mills, the No. 2 overall pick is expected to start.
Stroud, who was second in the rotation behind Mills last week, has done nothing in practice to disappoint.

C.J. is progressing well,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said this week, via Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle. “Each day, he continues to get better, continues to get more comfortable with the verbiage of the offense and his command of the huddle. I thought this week he has been really good, coming off of a long weekend. It was very eye-opening how on it he was. . . . He did an awesome job in our situational periods, So, he is definitely progressing in the right direction, and the sky is the limit for him.”

Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson seconded that assessment, saying Stroud is “already way, way ahead of pace” with his footwork and timing.

Stroud has spent his first few weeks in the NFL picking anyone and everyone’s brain. That includes Texans defensive coordinator Matt Burke and the team’s veteran defensive players.
He has impressed with his football IQ and his thirst for knowledge.

“His deliberateness and intent to try to get better — he’s literally grabbing everybody he can on the field,” Burke said. “So, he’s been very sort of intentional about learning and just learning defense, too, like what did you call there, what was that coverage, or what did you do here. I respect that from him.”

I'm not surprised by this. Stroud is one of the most polished and NFL ready QBs to come in the league in years. His floor is high. Ceiling? That's going to take time and some big games to determine. Remember how Stroud tore up the combine throwing sessions? This is the same thing, but with structure. CJ's 1st test is in Baltimore on 9/10.

My guess....the statement is probably in regards to knowing the playbook. If so, that's a great sign.

I'm not sure that any player can prove anything about the playbook at this point without having live bullet 11 on 11 games. Possibly understanding the playbook and implimenting the playbook can be worlds apart. I do hope that the time comes that Stroud can actually prove his expertise handling the playbook.

I thought the S2 was the only test that mattered.
