Demeco Ryans’ Staff

Really? This coming from the guy who said Culley was just a placeholder until the Texans found a real coach, okay.
Really, I do believe in fairness and I don't care much for the media and how they shape narratives.

I love the Ryan's hire. But to hear the media fawning over a guy that hasn't done anything makes me SMH.

mcclain has said they need a former head coach so there’s be some questioning.

however, the staff isn’t all that inexperienced. Undlin and Burke have been coaching a while and both are former DCs. Strausser has been a coach for a long time.Kiffin has coached a long time. The only guys who are all that inexperienced are demeco and slowik. Rest of the staff hasn’t been filled out yet.

culley got questioned right away because the circumstances were different and because he quickly started making himself appear incompetent as a HC.
Great post

Culley hadn't been proven incompetent at this point of his time down on Kirby.

I did say that Quessenberry is not the solution, but his PFF grades have always been higher than last year , sometimes by a good margin.

One could say that SQ can be a good place holder at Center in the ZBS while the young guy develops.

The Texans do pull their offensive linemen from time to time (a fair amount of time).
These guys are not zombies.
Pierce did break a lot of tackles, but the run blocking wasn't all terrible; if anything, I think the ZBS can help.

I do expect the Texans to draft a Center; I had previously expressed that thought.

My main point is that the Texans have a few guys to play the zone scheme while they continue to add more new pieces. Free Agency is another venue besides the draft.

You have to remember that many teams had had their Online going through a near complete makeover in a couple of years (Chiefs, Bengals, Chargers, etc.)

The more important thing is whether they (the Texans) can find a good offensive line coach.

It's not going to be an one-year deal, but at least it's not as bare-bone as what Kubiak had to work with his first year with the Texans (and that's really the nutshell of what I want to say.)
I do think Morrissey will be better at Center in the ZBS than Quess will be.

I guess I'm asking how much leeway is Ryan's going to get vs a guy like Culley?

I haven't seen one of the media types even question Ryans having a very inexperienced coaching staff.

Why are you trying so hard to compare these guys? They are nothing alike. Culley had never been a coordinator in well over 2 decades of service. He had reached his glass ceiling. Nobody wanted him as HC. He got a total of 1 interview for HC in his entire 20 some odd years in coaching. One!

Culley was a willing sacrificial lamb, sent out to be slaughtered. But he was paid handsomely. Let's not act like Mr. Culley didn't realize he was the lamb, and the media and fans weren't the wolves. He knew 100% he was a short-timer. At best, he was hoping to impress well enough to get 2-3 years. We all know what happened next - he wanted to retain his OC, plus Miami fired Nick's pal from NE, Brian Flores.

Thus Culley was let go, and the coronation for Flores hiring was underway. Until Flores, the dumb dumb, decided to file a lawsuit. Then had the temerity to name the Texans. Dude put the Texans in an untenable position and Flores was out and so was Culley. And after all the smoke cleared, there was Lovie. Yet another sacrificial lamb made HC out of pure desperation due to two totally botched HC searches.

Contrast those years with what we saw this year. Night and day difference. That is why the fans and the media are excited and ready to roll. Ryans has never lost at anything he has tried in football and has risen the ranks quickly and forcefully. This was the opposite of the last two flubbed searches.

I don't get all of the excitement and the press carrying Ryan's water. He's accomplished far less than Lovie has in the NFL and the same amount as Culley had when he became a HC. Which is nothing. Like I said, I like the Ryan's hire but he's in the same prove it to me boat that Lovie and Culley were. Maybe even moreso because Ryans will have more talent on the team than either of these guys had.

Also the way I feel could be a reaction to Seth Payne's jock sniffing of Ryan's that I heard on the radio yesterday.

A lot of it is potential. It didn’t feel like there was any potential with Lovie or Culley and that was reflected in the reaction. Culley was a never was and Lovie was a has been from the 2000’s.

The love for the Ryans hire has been extreme there’s no doubt but that’s because it feels like there’s a potential future with Ryans where there wasn’t with the last 2

Why wouldn't fans and the media be hyped about DeMeco's potential here?

Culley was a nobody and Lovie was a has-been retread. There was absolutely no reason to get excited about either of them, especially with the dark cloud of Watson's perversions hanging over the franchise the entire time.

DeMeco is the first decision in a long time that actually feels like the Texans did something right for a change.

At this point, the media would get roasted by Texans fans if they started tearing him down before he can even assemble a staff and team, much less play their first game.

Enjoy the ride. Quit being a pessimist and looking for things to confirm the pessimism. Right now is a time for Texans fans to actually look forward instead of being stuck in the past.

I got this, I just don't like the media.

Hiring Ryan's is bringing back the past.

I'd have to 'shiv a git' about Payne before anything he says could bother me one way or another.

After 4,567,970 posts about Derapist, Texan fans are ready to post positive things for a change.

Our last two coaches didn't give us anything positive to post. Management was a laughing stock of the league.

Maybe it's just bread crumbs, but many of us are encouraged for a change.

Sit back, relax, enjoy.......while we can.

At least until after the draft. Some here, the smartest in the room, will turn sour again.

:coffee:

Still nothing on Clint Kubiak as RB coach? I feel like I am not up to date on what is up with him. My understanding is he was offered a job but didn't say yes.

It sounds like he is weighing his options. There are still OC openings available. If the Texans’ offer is the best one then he’ll take it. Now that Gannon was hired in AZ I suspect that Kubiak will not be an OC candidate and will ultimately end up here.

I am still waiting to hear about Strausser, I hope he doesn’t decide to stay in Indy with Steichen.

I dont let what Payne says bother me. The lemmings are what bother me and they dont bother me much.

For RB coach? I see why he waited and eventually signed with the 49ers. When you think of the pecking order on the offensive side of the ball. You have the OC, QB, maybe passing game coordinator before you get to the RB and WR coaches. I can see the Texans hiring him as an assistant HC or even passing game coordinator, but not RB coach and I think the 49ers agree.

I get you don’t like the media but in a previous post you just said Seth Payne is influencing how you feel about Demeco.

You mistake in all of this was listening to 610.
Agreed. I can’t believe that 610 can’t hire anyone better or more interesting than what they have. I can’t listen to tweedledee and tweedledumb in the pm. Morning isn’t much better imo.

It’s described as a top role.

That may mean a bigger title and role than the one he was going to get here. I don’t think it has anything to do with forging a name for himself. Let’s be fair to the guy.
Not only that, McDaniel got a HC job from the position Klint is taking. He went to the org that gives him a quicker path to a HC position. Really cant blame him.

Dammit McClain jinxed Baby Kubes. Dammit.

Liking the rest of the staff so far. No complains though I'm not a coaching intricacy expert.

Heh, swing and a miss!
Can't win them all I guess.
I'm happy with the job FO is doing so far - Kubiak probably likes his chances at San Francisco better and is already settled there.
It's just a no brainer for Kubiak. You can go work under a genius offensive mind and probably get a head coaching gig in 2-3 years or come here to work under an unproven head coach/OC and maybe get promoted to OC in 2-3 years if things go well.

So are Strausser and Kiffin 100% happening or is this just like "expected to hire"? I can't figure it out lol

His headline on his tweet says it's official but the linked article is the same one he's been retweeting twice a day everyday for a few days now which still says "expected to hire" "frontrunner" stuff. So who knows.

I've confirmed Chris Kiffin. Strausser is not a done deal.

This is different from what was reported yesterday. Caserio appeared on Texans All Access and said they had nailed down most all the coaching staff, including Strausser. See post 21,579 in Texans Random Thought.
