Week 15 - Chief Boyardee vs Texans

Why draft a project is my question? He wasn't good when he played at Stanford. Anyway, we know what he is. I'm not even sure he's a good backup honestly.

As opposed to what? 3rd round selections are almost always projects. Look at the guys drafted around him in the 3rd. Most are all back ups, only a few starters....The upside of selecting a qb there way outweighs the downside.

Pep & Lovie deserves some kudos for this game. But I’m going to hold off, try to sober up a bit before I give them their due.

Nelson & Stingley out. Pierce out. Green out. Cooks out. Take the Chiefs to overtime force them to punt, a Texans field goal would have won the game….

yeah, I’m going to need to sober up before I start handing out the participation ribbons

I don't really have a problem with that fumble at this point. You can coach that out of him. He's a young player on a 1-11 team that lacks talent and coaching.

If there's a generational talent bring him in 1.1 and let them compete. If not trade back and pick someone up later to compete.

Cal has done seen enough and has made up his mind that we are on the road to redemption. Everybody is coming back. Cannot turn back now. 😂

Only the Texans would expect a RD3 QB with 11 CFB starts and no first team reps to step into the starting job a game and half into his first NFL season……dumbarses!!!!! He should’ve been developing on the sideline carrying a clipboard for at minimum 1 season and at most this season before competing for the starting job. Texans just haven’t figured out the art of QB development…..they’ve mastered the art of QB derailment.

This team just cannot take another QB, regardless of round, b/c they’ll just duck them up as usual.

That fumble by Mills was just peak Texans. Fire everyone after the end of this season. If I owned the Texans and saw that the crowd was almost 50/50 with Chiefs fans (like the Eagles game), that fact alone would make me want to clean house. Get rid of anyone with a Patriots/BOB/Caserio connection. Caserio has whiffed on his 2 first rounders by taking injury prone CB over Sauce who is the defensive rookie of the year and the aggy G who was supposed to be a dominant run blocker but gets whipped at the line like a rag doll. The 2 coaches he has picked are the worst in the NFL each year. Don’t let Caserio have a chance to pick a 3rd coach in 3 years or waste our 2 1st rounders again.

It doesn't even have to be mahomes instincts.

i wouldn't even call what Mahomes does instincts.....that's just backyard football...but you can get away with playing that way when you have an arm like his...Mills is a guy who just struggles to ad lib mostly b/c i don't think he had to do it coming out of HS & never really got the chance to develop his off schedule play making in college...& his development in that department is being retarded in the NFL with what he has around him with the Texans. The position is as much about skills as it is about confidence.

Brees was similar to him in that way which is why he struggled his 1st 3 years in the NFL..got benched 3 times in SD before the injury & then lucked up & got with Payton in NO who not only was a great playcaller, but also had a system tailor made for Brees where the ball is out quickly..no instincts really required....Not saying Mills is that...but folks underestimate what the right system can do for a player.

If Lovie had gotten Sauce……he would’ve screwed him up in his Tampa 2 Zone Defense. Green was fine before the injury, so we’ll see a healthy and stronger Green next season. A much better Center would certainly help both Guards tremendously.

I think it's moving the right way .... more than we think ..... we'll get a QB .... I'm worried about O Linemen .... they're just not there to select .... that was last year !

……b/c the HC and OC have “Pink Slip Fever”, so they open it up.
When you’re scared of making mistakes, you tend to make mistakes. Early on Mills was trying to play mistake free football. That’s imo the main reason why he was sailing passes in the first 5 games. when he tried to adjust after the bi, he started throwing at their feet. Like Earl said his mechanics were way off.
Now that there’s no pressure he’s able to play freely. Dude was out there going through his progressions, something he wasn’t doing before the benching. He wasn’t stepping up in the pocket like he was doing this afternoon.
I blame coaching for not having him mentally prepared. That crap started way before the season begun.

Also, with his mechanics and accuracy issues, he would either go too quickly to his checkdowns or too slow with his progressions. I think he can be over coached and the coaching staff being conservative and trying to protect him added to the pressure.

He lost his job to Kyle Allen. He's sharing time with Jeff Driskell and knows that the Texans will either draft a QB or bring in another QB to compete with him. So, at this point, what does he have to lose? The pressure is off. What's funny but scary is he barely threw for 100 yards and only completed 50% of his passes. But his play will be enough for some fans to want to run it back with him next year.

To the posters who think Mahomes would have the same level of success with the BOB ED offense. I would have paid money to see BOB's head explode trying to limit Mahomes' instincts and style.

What's best for the organization? And do the fans really have any say in the matter? So who cares?

And fans should know this and maybe shift their talking points to some ideas to fix things instead of regurgitating what's wrong as if no one else can see it

Listening to Lovie's press conference. He said that today's game is where we want to be. With the ball and an opportunity to win the game at the end. How about getting up on your opponent and keeping the pressure on your opponent for 4 quarters instead of playing for the end of the game? How do you play to win at the end when your zone defense is getting gashed by a thousand cuts?

This philosophy is similar to old school coaching of "stop the run, run the ball" when in 2022, this is a passing league.

Pep and Lovie run antiquated systems. It’s truly amazing. It’s like they don’t watch or keep up with what other teams are doing. Not once in the history of this franchise have they been cutting edge/progressive when it comes to analyzing players, scheme, game management and coaching. It’s such a stark difference to what the Astros have done. At best, they have been a step slow, now we are literally DECADES behind in developing a modern, successful NFL defensive and offensive scheme. That’s an indictment of the incompetence of the owner and GM of this pathetic franchise.

That's part of what I've been saying all season. Pep was teaching Mills how to check down, and play safe, in training camp, instead of playing to win.

I think you will find this interesting, Stingley ranks 105th out of 116 CBs. Sauce ranks #1. And as we learned from the NFL Combine Green is Big, Fat, Slow and weak, so it should come as no surprise Green ranks 82nd out of 84 OGs.

The game has completely passed him by. Dang I was pulling for this joker. But wow he’s freaking retarded lol as a coach. You play to win the freaking game

Which goes back to how much this "no nuts, no glory" philosophy dictates the way the offense plays. Lovie is the total opposite of Bruce Arians' "no risk it, no biscuit" philosophy.

The team has been playing better these past 2 games simply b/c he FINALLY changed his philosophy. imagine if he came into the season with that...we'd have 4 whole wins right now!

I don't know why you draft a guard in the mid-first round with bad combine stats. That's crazy,

Agree. But I think you're not taking into account what he has to work with.

I honestly can't see how anyone could have expected that game to have played out any better for the Texans than it did.

My only question is why did it take them this long to put it together. I understand Pep had a lot to work through with his inexperienced QB, new OL leading to gel, & Brandon Cooks doing whatever he's been doing all year.

But Lovie's defensive issues... he should have been falling up. The LB issues he's had resulted in more playing time for "his guys" Hanson & Harris over scrubs.

Don't get me wrong. The opportunity to win it was there. They didn't capitalize. But honestly I'm easing away from the pink soap club. I'm not out, just easing to the back of the room.
