not only that, there are grumblings that Staley has lost the team and is not well liked. Them getting 38 hung on them by the jags…looked like they quit on him today.

My problem stems from this, what did Mills and Burkhead do to not compete for their position. If you listen to everyone who attended camp, they said that Allen looked better than Mills and to a certain point Driskell. Everyone knows I think Minshew is a better player than Mills in every sense of the word. So posters say, well we're rebuilding, why bring in a qb is a placeholder. My thing is if the team is rebuilding, why worry about winning games. Either you're trying to field the best team to win or you're tanking, can't do both. Burkhead serves 0 purpose on this team, yet he's in the game plan faithfully. Mills is an average talent guy, I'm not even mad at him. I don't know why they thought he was a steal in the 3rd rd. He's a backup, nothing wrong with that.

He is a quitter but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he was damn good. What part of that you don’t understand. Another thing he never quit on the damn field when he played. But that type of stuff seems to fly right over people heads around here. You smart ones that should be a given.

I tell you some of you people just want to argue. The crap is getting old and tiresome.

For you to think him being a POS off the field does not translate into leadership or other issues on the field boggles my mind. He was a good playmaker, not a good player. That is like Kyler Murray level, good enough to keep you in pergatory. I have a wife and two daughters, mother etc. a POS like this needs to go somewhere else. He still cannot even see he did anything wrong, the ego he must pack

He was 4-12 on this team in 2020, not sure why everyone thinks he's so damn good, and don't know why we expect more from Mills on a team devoid of talent on the offensive side of the ball. The good news is that he did go somewhere else so we can forget about him now, and if you feel the need there's a thread all his own in the NFL section.

At least we wouldn’t be complaining about a 3rd round pick who just outplayed the 4th QB selected in the 2021 NFL draft

QB has little to nothing to do with the win when the running game goes off in the manner Chicago's did.

They scored 20 points.

The defense gave the Texans the ball in favorable position twice. STs gave them the ball in favorable position once. That QB & that offense needs to be able to score more than 20 points.

20 points, regardless what it looks like is a win for the defense. The Texans offense lost to the Bears defense.

The rules are set up for the offense to score points.

Posters keep bringing up the last 4 games of last year. DC's have film on him and see what he can do and not do so well. Thats's why its hard to be a good player every year and improve. I still don't think the last 4 games were great, the Titans game was pretty much over. Again, last 4 games of last year doesn't mean its going to continue like that. I don't see anything he does better this year vs last year.

.....and they just got that film this season? He had 6 starts under his belt before his 5 game run. I wasn't sure that was Kelly calling the last 5 games versus Pep getting a chance to call the offense down the stretch.

Nope, but they have an offseason vs kinda on the fly. How many games did they win and how many points did they score in those last 4 games? Come into it this year, the qb is going to see different thing than he did last year.

Mills has looked like a QB who would still be worth building around during the first 3 quarters of each game. Something has completely came apart in the 4th quarters. I've not liked the ultra conservative play calling, stupid penalties, drops, and Burkhead as the featured back with his rock solid 2.8 YPC and ability to miss some crucial blocks.

What year was it during Kubiak that the Texans would lose in the last play of the game? It would always be a FG attempt by Kris Brown, or they would score a FG, or Vince Young would run in a TD…crazy **** would happen.

Either way - we have been through this before.

This shouldn’t surprise us.
 
Mills is playing like crap..especially in the 4th qtr, but 1 improvement i did see him make from the last game is he was moving around to buy time and find throwing lanes; Not sure if its b/c he's trying to convince himself to trust his protection to make a consicous effort to not abandon the pocket too early..but he wasn't really doing that in the 1st few games.

I personally think the biggest issue...outside of some other little things is that they/Pep are coddling him too much with the playcalling......Or they don't trust him..for whatever reason.
To me, the reason he looks decent in the 1st 3 qtrs is b/c the offense is being controlled; skewed towards running the ball & just general conservative playcalling. Pass plays called are usually off play-action or are of the 1 read, get-the-ball-out-quickly variety. Either way, the number of times he drops back to pass and how far he's throwing downfield is too controlled. I don't think we've taken but 1 deep shot all season....& that was off that flea-flicker in the Colts game. Anyway, as a result, he's not really getting into a rythym &/or getting a feel for the pass rush....which is needed for when you throw downfield......which of course is what we're needing to do late in games to win it & of course where he & the offense has been sucking. In those situations....when you're trying to win it & you have no choice but to drop back and sling it, that controlled, short passing game now has to give way to throwing it more downfield. So he's not only not in rythym, he has to contend with not having a true #1 go-to WR...................2, The defense also knowing you have to drop back and get it downfield also kinda plays a part in it b/c that kicks up the pass rushing on the edges & the blitzing.

The other part to the no true #1 WR thing is, our skill player speed on the outside isn't great. You need guys who can win their match-up fast. We have Cooks as a speedster on the outsie & really noone else. Nico & Moore and the TE's as a group aren't fast guys...& to top it off, Nico as your #2...kinda sat & watched him a little these last few weeks...he's a TERRIBLE route runner.

How many times he was sacked or under pressure yesterday. If you do some research, he's been one of the least pressured qbs in the nfl. His pockets were good enough and the defense gave the offense opportunities. Then in the 4th qt, its a wrap

I had to help put up fencing yesterday, so I watched the game here and there. I went back and watched the game today and here are my takeaways. Mills didn't play badly even in the 4th qtr. Could he have played better yes,

1. If Burkhead was just a bit faster the Texans would've had a TD, instead Burkhead was tackled at the 5 and the Texans had to settle for a FG. There was another 3rd down play where the same thing happened. Brown could've had a 1st down on a 3rd down catch in the 4th qtr, but he wasn't atletic enough to make that play. It's a play Kelce/Kittle/Waller etc regularly make. In short with better skill position players the Texans probably would've won this game. Howard/Q missed their blocks after the Pitre int that cost the Texans a FG.

Draft Achane and Washington and you have the added playmakers you need. 2 tipped passes are what really cost the Texans this game.

On another note, if the Browns pick is in the 20 ish range would you trade that pick for Roquan Smith? He would be perfect in Lovie's defense.

Sometimes, I read this forum and get whiplash from reading posts and doing double takes.
  1. We brag about Mills playing better than the other QBs that were drafted ahead him
  2. Some posters claim that if Mills was in the draft this year, he would be a first round pick
  3. Yet, when expectations are set and his performances are criticized, they bring up that he's a 3rd round pick
You can't have it both ways. Without any bias, grade him as a starting NFL QB. Don't grade him on a curve because he isn't Watson or you like him more than Watson or on his draft status or on him completing 2-3 passes in a quarter. I could give a rat's a$$ if he outplayed Fields. All I care about is when the Texans needed a play, did he step up? When they needed a first down, was he able to make that play? At the end of the day, that's all that matters.

Right now, he is far from the only problem with the Texans. However, he is also part of the problem and anyone deflecting or minimizing that point is getting the QB play and record they deserve.

Easier to say than stand behind the Venus Flytrap better known as the Texans OL. Each defense that the Texans have faced in the first 3 weeks have had their way with the Texans OL…..to the tune of watching them successfully shove their arses back into the huddle.
