WK 3: BULLS & bears

The team has been in position to win 3 games. They came up short because their QB cannot hit an out route and seems to fold under pressure.
92 yards against a team that gives up 140/gm

I understand Pierce put it on the ground twice, but he was replaced with a guy who is 2.8 ypc over a 90 year career.

Not to defend Davis really. He's an issue, but only one.

We saw much better from Mills late last season than we have seen this season. I know Mills has it in him. I just think his talent has been wasted. It may be last seasons strong finish was a smoke screen. We should learn more about this team within the next two weeks.
It's been said that he had a thumb injury but if true was that here a factor. May I also ask will Kyle Allen be a potential consideration for a backup plan if need be. Gig em!

Starting over with a new playbook was a bad decision. It's like Mills is a rookie again.

Should have just rebuilt the line and continued building on Mills' knowledge of the previous scheme. That's if you want to win.

The Texans brain trust made sure no real backup on team to make sure no options

what a screw job for all the other players and fans. but that shows how the owners think this team is nothing but a charitable organization

They don’t give a **** about bringing a winning team to the City of Houston and their fans

BULLSHIT
Still plenty of rebuilding to do.
A full bankbook should make the off-season interesting.

What exactly did we "see" last year that excited us? In the last 8 games (if you take away his "best" game vs the Chargers) he averaged 15.8 points per game. Did we really expect his one outlier game to be his normal? He is exactly what we thought he was. A guy who will make an occasional good throw, but has no clutch factor and will struggle to be consistent. People saw what they wanted to.

No one is disputing that. But despite all that, we were in a position to win, and Mills failed to deliver, once again.

He looked much better today than he did the last two weeks.

One int off a ball tipped at the LOS.

Next week at home he should have a good game

the offense failed to deliver…not just mills bro. They just dont have enough playmakers.
Who manages and leads the offense? WRs and TEs can't throw it to themselves. Runners can't get running lanes if defenses don't fear your passer. We have this argument every time we have a trash QB leading this team. Guys need to stop making excuses. He sucks. He isn't the future. He isn't getting better. The team made a mistake relying on him.

Oh how we miss hero ball. But hey some fans not you wished for quarterback play like this. They got tired of seeing hero ball. Lol

The problem with hero ball is your team has a low ceiling. It keeps your team in mediocrity hell, which aptly describes O'Brien's tenure.

Yup…but he doesnt pass or run block…he doesnt catch or drop passes..he doesnt call plays…you need to calm down…the offense as a whole has not performed well all season…Pierce is the lone bright spot….& he fumbled twice today in critical situations…

lol calm down? I am not even amped up. Mills is trash. Anyone who thinks otherwise isn't being true to what they are watching. Plenty of Qbs get sacked. Plenty of teams struggle to run every week. Plenty of teams have play callers making bone-headed decisions. And yet, great QBs elevate those around them and make plays happen. In 16 games started, he is the same player.

Okay, we fire Mills immediately.

Now what?

Who is going to come in at this point and "Save us"? Especially at what Mills cost.

I agree that trash QB is a long standing tradition but the best potential QB in our history just caused a huge problem and demanded out.

Did you honestly expect that with this organizations history that we would fall into the next Tom Brady?

Its a dumpster fire... the fastest way to sort out a dumpster fire after its out is to get a new dumpster. If you want to keep the same dumpster... it takes time to sift through the mess.

who’s arguing hes “great” or even good & getting better? Fact is NOONE on offense is doing ANYTHING competently. It aint JUST mills…period.

Relying on him vs. what? Drafting someone? Spending boo koo money on a vet? Mills deserved to get a shot as the guy….so far hes failing. Ok..

I guess I disagree. I think DP is playing well. I think our WRs and TEs are playing well. I think our OL is below average. There are plenty of plays being left on the field because of Mills.

On the flip side, I think our secondary is playing well and our pass rush has been good. Our DL and LBs are atrocious in run defense and lane discipline.

Mills is going to be the starting QB this season. He will be under contract for 3rd round money with 1.5 seasons starting experience. He will be here next season and if things keep going the way they have the first three games he’ll be pushing a shiny new first round QB for playing time next season.

He’s got 14 games left to prove the team has bigger needs than QB. They do have plenty of holes to address but if he doesn’t show improvement they will be starting with QB next draft. Which is unfortunate because this rebuild would go a lot faster if they didn’t have to sink one of those high firsts on a QB.

So, if you believe our OL is below average why is it ALL on Mills?

Surely there is room for the "below average line" to shoulder at least partial blame.

I think this is fair. I understand, complaining but having no solution. I don't know what I would do. Honestly, even if it goes against conventional wisdom, I would make our Qbs compete each week and start whoever practiced better and see if one can have a spark. At this point, you have nothing to lose. You assume none of them are the future, and you know Mills isn't getting it done. It's not fair to the rest of the team to keep treading him out there while he struggles. Especially because you are close each week. It would be different if we were getting rocked across the board.

TE’s are being targeted…that’s a plus…but the blocking is still subpar on the edges from the group as a whole….WR’s…right now Nico’s looking like a 3rd WR instead of a #2…..cooks..i think we’re seeing why he’s been traded so much despite his production. He’s not a true scheme tilter…& he’s just not a true #1..he’s a really really good #2. Balls that Mills are releasing that appear high look like that b/c Cooks is small and has to touch the moon to catch. A big-bodied true #1 like an AJ Brown is not having to do all that.

DP is playing well…for a rookie…but if he keeps putting the ball on the ground ala Slaton, guess where he’ll end up?

the o-line & playcallis the same as its ever been.

That is what a team is about, not everyone is going to live up to their full potential every play.... its why you get their backs.

If this team isn't about playing AS A TEAM then Mills being replaced will NOT make this team successful.

Even the greatest of QBs have stints of doing very little.

Would you not be angry if Mills went to another team and WERE the next HOF and the Texans benched him rather than give him more than 3 games under new coaches?

I get it, I doubt Mills is going to be "that guy" but this season was going to be a wash no matter what the Texans did.... IMO no reason to not let the man sink or swim.

As for competing for the position... I highly doubt that IF they felt they had an amazing talent behind Mills they would sit them over Mills

Every team has deficiencies. Why should our team be perfect for Mills (or whatever QB we have)?
Yes, all teams have deficiencies... but unless you don't care that you are being unfairly biased... EVEN those teams put blame on their weaknesses IF they want to truly fix the problem rather than have a scape goat.

IF a line sucks... it sucks... if a QB sucks... he sucks.... just because the QB sucks, doesn't give a crappy line a pass.

After todays game, I blame our edge on Tunsil and Howard. I watched them specifically today and both were terrible, in the run game and pass game. With that said, still plenty of plays to be made by a better QB.

Look at Rodgers. Bad OL for years, new WRs, inconsistent running game. He finds ways to win games. Joe Borrow has a terrible OL. He finds ways to win games. Thou who shall remain nameless around here had a bad OL and still found ways to win games and play at an elite level, until the wheels fell off.

Unless we are expecting a perfect team at some point with zero holes, we will always have things we could be better at.

now flip that.

Josh Allen as a rookie was terrible..limited weapons. They go out draft him some weapons, and get Diggs in the offseason..he’s looked like a different qb every since.

Tua was thought to be trash for 3 years. They slowly brought him some weapons in…this year they go out and get Hill…this guy is looking fearless after 3 games.

Hurts in Philly…same thing. Just ok to bad last year. Enter AJ Brown, he’s looking like a competent qb.

DW4 showed that with a bad defense, o-line and limited weapons, he wasnt leading anyone anywhere either. Rodgers is an all time great.

As a qb, you gotta have that guy you can go to…not sure Mills has that guy right now. Cooks so far is looking……Cooked.

Nobody wished for this.. We just want a winner who isn't a total creep that likes to insert fingers in his own orifices.. That isn't too much to ask is it?
:hankpalm: (Life of a Texans fan)

That "Hero ball" we all saw was just more of the same (losses in frustrating fashion), but it definitely was more fun to watch.. still the same result though.

He was a winner, his team around him failed us. The defense gave up wins just like they’re doing now. Coaching then failed us like they doing now.

He's a loser, regardless of whatever he accomplishes on a field. Sorry, but I'm glad he's gone.. in good conscience I would've never been able to root for that POS and would feel ashamed he played for my team. I can't wait until we find the guy who wipes him off all Texans records completely.

I honestly expected better than what we saw. I’m thinking this is the 3rd preseason game & we’re going to see our offense finally show up.

bears defense is bad & looked bad. & our offense barely looked ok against it.

I can imagine the lesser intelligent members being extremely upset that Davis Mills didn’t look like a top 15 QB in the league today.

For them, it’s all about the QB. We should have drafted that guy that nobody else drafted in the first round last year. And we should draft that guy that nobody else will in the 1st round next draft. At least we wouldn’t be complaining about a 3rd round pick who just outplayed the 4th QB selected in the 2021 NFL draft
