WK 3: BULLS & bears

Georgia, where he couldn't beat out Jake Fromm. LOL

Some guys take time to mature... Look at Tom Brady. Nobody thought much of him at Michigan and look where he ended up. I think Justin will be fine. Maybe top 15, not saying top 10. I am not saying he will be the next Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson, Peyton Manning, throw whatever name here. I think as long as he has proper coaching and the team continues to upgrade positions (WR, OL), he could get better. He still has some rookie mistakes in him. Again, like that one guy said, he hasn't even played 17 games yet and is already on his second HC/OC. Give it time before rushing judgment. We only have a small sample here.

RE: OL - The Bears have a few guys in the top 10 for rushing protection. So they have some building blocks there. Still a LONG way to go.

If he becomes top 15 he will be the best QB since Cutler/McMahon.

I dont think Fields will ever be top 15 and a good friend of mine/Bears fan hopes I'm wrong, but he sees what I'm talking about.

Holding on too long? Not trusting OL? Scrambling before its really necessary? I see those same things, but those are typical traits of a rookie QB that can be ironed out with the right coaching/staff.

Our fans are expecting Mills to already be playing like a 10 yr vet. I'm thinking that some Bears fans are thinking the same way?

Every team with a rookie QB expects the same thing. They see how fast someone like Justin Herbert took off in rookie year and expect the same. Josh Allen didn't put it together until year 3. Everyone's too impatient. For us, we know we are not a playoff team. This year is about progress and finding those building blocks for next year and beyond. Time will tell on Justin Fields. I'm going to wait until November/December to determine if he's made progress to warrant year 3.

Maybe if I pick the Bears to win, we’ll actually win a freaking game. Lol

Bears 19
Texans 17

Texans have the lead through three and smoke it away again in the 4th.
It seems like most people expect a low-scoring game.
For that reason, we may end up seeing just the opposite.
Both fan bases (those that want to be positive about their QB situation) will be fed with a little more hope. :)

If only all could be so logical

Fields has some high ceiling traits. Mobility, athleticism, the arm, the accuracy. I think he’s a smart player. He’s a competitive player. But two things working against him, processing past his first read (not having his accustomed stable of weapons) has not sped up his development. Two is the coaching and system he is running (we see similar things with Mills and Texans coaching-Pep Hamilton offense).

Warranting year 3 seems fair to me at this point. Justin is more methodical with his process. He is staring down his reads. When he’s open, he hits it, move the chains and keep going. Each team has a different philosophy on how they attack this position. If it was easy to evaluate, we’d have better than a 50-50 bust rate, but we don’t. Bears are betting on his traits, his smartness, toughness and leadership. There’s a lot he brings to the locker room. He’s not a for everybody type of quarterback, especially SteelbTexan, but he impressed CJ Stroud enough he wanted to understudy as a freshman and meant a lot personally to him.

Yeah, I watched that Pivot podcast and it was a great look for Stroud to me. Seems like a very humble, hard working young man. You can just see it because he wasn't a big time recruit from the jump. Not only that, he didn't jump in the portal and fended off competition (Ewers).

Smith is coming back out of necessity for the the Bears. Even the mildest of hip pointers should be given ~2 weeks of rest/rehab. I'll be watching him, but I expect his performance today will be compromised.

I’m surprised he’s even playing through injury instead of pulling a Jalen Ramsey to force a trade given the contract holdout this offseason. High character player.
