Thats a lie, it absolutely will have an affect because above all the NFL wants this to go away. If Watson makes that happen they will give him the slap on the wrist I've been afraid of because anything greater will just keep it in the public eye. Watson settles the suits, NFL gives him a slap on the wrist for PR, he goes back to playing football and if he wins then everyone forgets and all is forgiven. Its just how our society works for the rich and famous. I mean look at the joke that was the grand jury, if that wasn't a sign of things to come I don't know what is.

This is great news. This open sore needs to start scabbing over. All those cases were superfluous anyway. Hardin probably was going to waste most of those women because they were probably weak links. The remaining cases will include the women with something to prove. The NFL won’t have such an easy cause to blow them off. If they stand resolute the NFL can’t forget the other 20 Will still be in the fans memory. i just wonder if this now excludes the Texans from the remaining cases.

Don't think some of those 40 or so massage therapist out there that haven't filed a complaint won't be hearing from Buzbee. Derrick has just settled 20 cases, he's still got another 40-80 potential cases sitting out there waiting to be filed. This is far from over. Derrick is the gift that keeps on giving. He didn't settle because he doesn't know the number of women he violated. Now that he's settled there will be more women coming out of the woodwork.

Exactly. Buzbee and Hardin will quietly meet at Vic & Anthony, Del Frisco, Mastro or other high dollar steakhouses and discuss the framework of future settlements while racking up lawyer fees for his dumbassery, perversions or whatever anyone wants to call it. This wasn't about the alleged crimes or justice for women. It was two high powered lawyers playing a game of cat and mouse while hoping Houstonians go down their rabbit holes, become emotionally invested, sway public opinion and pressure. Based on this thread and the 24 hour postings and speculations, it appears their cynical ploys worked.

This is far from over.

Four of the women refused to settle, they want their day in court.

There are at least 6 more possible criminal cases, three of those involve minor victims. The same 6 could also file civil suits.

Then there's the suspension which has been referred to as "Indefinite" .

This is about a pervert violating more women than he can remember.

The complaints are going to drip, drip, drip and this isn't going away like some fanboys would like it too. Derrick may get off easy because Hardin kept him out of jail. But he's going to have to pay the price of never knowing when his perverted actions are going to bite him in the butt again. As it should be.

I think one of the million Florio articles posted here mentioned something about statute of limitations on the events that happened during 2020/21. Any new potential incidents in Cleveland obviously wouldn't be subject to that.

That was in relation to voiding Watson's Cleveland contract. It would take new cases to do that since he supposedly open with them & told them about all of the current ones

The settlement of 20 lawsuits pending against Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson came eight days after attorney Tony Buzbee vowed that two more lawsuits would be filed, pushing the total to 26.
Omitted from Tuesday’s statement issued by Buzbee regarding the settlements is the question of whether those lawsuits will be filed — and whether others will proceed. Indeed, the statement Buzbee issued in response to Watson’s recent press conference suggested that even more lawsuits are coming.

Was that merely bluster in the hopes of settling cases, or was it real? Time will tell.

It’s also possible that the commencement of the settlement process (the final four cases could in theory be settled at any time) has included a wink-nod from Buzbee to Watson’s camp that Buzbee is exiting the business of suing Deshaun Watson. Buzbee can’t make that commitment officially; the rules of ethics prevent lawyers from agreeing to restrict their future practices in order to resolve current cases. But Buzbee can unofficially inform Hardin that Buzbee will focus on other matters.

Still, four cases remain active. There’s no specific reason to believe that others won’t sue. In fact, news of the 20 settlements could provide the impetus for others to try to get what the 20 plaintiffs are receiving.

If Mulugheta, Hardin, and Haslam have anything to say about it…..Watson will be front and center at the Browns podium after he settles his final civil suit. He would begin by stating his remorse and public apologies for the situation he put each one of the masseuses through. Then follow that up with apologies to the NFL, Browns, Texans, and their fans for putting each through this situation as well. Admit he’s going to learn from this situation and seek counseling immediately to help him stop making similar mistakes in the future.

I see that as his only option to move forward. Of course, Goodell would have to put his stamp of approval on this as well.

Problem with that though, no one knows when his final suit will be. He’s still facing possible charges. Long way to go.

Why is it funny? I’m not defending Watson. I’ve seen enough to think he’s at least a creep. But what would your defense be if you were innocent and had allegations against you like this?

With all these answers being the same, this goes against his depositions saying that his intent was always for a legitimate massage. You have to give disclaimers for every massage contact? Not very believable, especially in light of the other 66+ similar incidents.

Over time I have come to agree with this. Just too much information out there to describe it as "money grab" or "Buzbee coached them". But I don't think a defense of "I wanted a massage and stuff happened" is something that is too far fetched. May be his only legit defense.

It’s not a good defense because he went to actual licensed massage therapists and even estheticians (skin care therapists) and was asking them to massage his anus upfront. He demanded they be alone, so he put himself in a situation to where if anything happened no one could corroborate his story. That’s a classic sign of a predator, to get you alone, no one to help you.

He could have gone almost anywhere else in Houston as there are almost 80,000 actual sex workers in Houston.
