[Hypothetical] Good Mills, Average Texans

Rich Schmidt

Myopicone
OK, say what you want about him underthrowing, whatever, but how exactly was he gutless? Dude was leaving chunks of ear on the field and still throwing 4 TD passes.
he would turtle when the rush was near easiest guy to get to the ground minus the Denver game where he was a stud

Really?

Does Mills have a stronger arm and more mobility than Schaub.

Does Joey B have these special traits?
He throws like a soft tosser. He won't drive the ball when he can and will underthrow guys. If you listen to Stoerner who really likes Mills, he said the same thing last year and in camp this year he's doing the same thing. How many times did we see Andre waiting on the ball when he broke loose? The difference in completions ans accuracy is huge. You can complete passes, but are you accurate to where a wr can turn a 15 yrd dig route into a 50 yd td because you gave him a chance to catch and run?

Mills has a much better arm and more mobility than Schaub ever had

Mills arm is stronger than Joey B's. It's debatable that Mills is more mobile than Joey B and I'm a Joey B fan. I just wish Mills had the weapons Joey B has to work with.
Will he let the ball go or play scared is the question. Alex Smith had a NFL arm, but he wouldn't cut the ball loose and drive the ball into windows.

There are many examples to the contrary in this video, including a 48 yard dime for a TD, but I'll refer you to 5:10 in the video for an example of driving the ball into a hole in the zone quite well. And there are two other examples in the first 1:30.
This dude can make literally every throw. Might not have a huge arm but more than enough

Your video does not work, fail!

I am just saying from what I saw last year. He floats and wobble that ball too much. I dont like it.
Not sure why it doesn't work for you. Works fine for me when I click it.

I'm not saying that he didn't have some weak throws.
I'm just saying that he showed the physical ability and willingness to throw long and to fire balls into tight spots.
He can work on making fewer weak throws because he is physically able to make any throw needed

One day Andre will wait for his ball. Apparently, that's what the coach is counting on. The opponents also see that Andre is without the ball, so there is less attention to him. And that's why they are more engaged in other aspects of the game. But one day this card will play.

How come Drew Brees was buff and Trevor Lawrence is buff and this dude look like the guy flipping the meat patties at Whattaburger.

When all you do is get paid and play football. Look the f'n part!

Josh Allen looks like a toosie roll cause he likes to drive that ball... all the time.

Like I said I don't know if he improved in power this off season, looks flimsy and...... flimsy is flimsy!

Every quarterback is not buff. One of the greatest quarterbacks of all times wasn’t buff.

You drive the ball when you have to. Some passes requires touch . Mills can make every throw and in that video, that’s exactly what it shows.

I saw Mills throw into some pretty tight windows last year.

Go back and look at his highlights.

This is what I was saying about Derrick.

I thought he did a pretty good job of throwing Cooks/Collins open last yr.

I really don't take much of what Stoener says seriously. Might be because of his hillbilly accent.

He looks OK to me.
6'4", 225lbs.
The exact height and weight listed for Brady.

You're reaching a really long way, but unfortunately you've got tyrannosaurus arms.

I'll give you this, he does have a freakishly long neck lol

There were some really sexy throws in that highlight.

And one thing I liked (and I hope he continues) is that he gave his receivers chances to make plays. Sometimes the coverage was good and he’d still throw it to his guy and give them a chance to win.

Guys appreciate that.

Mills is in way better shape than just some guy flipping Burgers. He looks every bit of a pro athlete.

I was talking about Mills, but pointed out that Derrick also struggled with the things you mentioned.

I think Mills throws with better accuracy and anticipation than Derrick does.
I think he shows a lot of composure in the pocket for someone so green. The game doesn't seem too big for him.
Now to keep the rebuild going - I predict next off season will be even more exciting with a big bank account to go with the two firsts.

According to you, Watson is an average qb and Mills is a franchise qb. No need to go down this road with you.

I never said Mills was a franchise QB. It usually takes 3 years to know if you have a franchise QB. I've said this many times.

What I've said was Mills has shown promise.

BTW, I said the same thing about Derrick after his rookie yr. I also said that I missed on my draft eval of him. Unfortunately I didn't see the improvement in his game from his rookie year to year three and then said you can't win a championship with Derrick as your QB.

Hervoyel

BUENO!
Schaub’s only shortcoming was that he was gutless. Well, a little aggressiveness would have overcome a lot of shortcomings
I always felt that Schaub was far from gutless but also that he spent his career being told exactly what to do. Gary gave him a bit of a short leash and that was probably sensible. I can’t help but assume that Gary saw limitations just like everyone else did and he kept Schaub “protected” from them the best way he knew how. Matt Schaub had a very nice NFL career and got to taste a degree of success a lot of players don’t experience and being made to color inside the lines was the price he had to pay for that. I’m as familiar as anyone who watched him with his limitations and shortcomings but I’d never say he wasn’t a gamer. Gutless is a poor choice IMO. He was what he was and did what Gary told him to do to get the most possible out of his abilities.

I never saw a problem with Mills driving the ball at all last year, especially when he came back at the end of the season. I never heard anyone complaining about his ability to "drive" the ball until Stoerner started throwing that out there about 3 weeks ago.

He was a tough SOB. I don’t mean gutless in that sense. He wasn’t aggressive enough. He had the ability to put the ball in front of AJ, but rarely did, turning a sure TD into a safe 30/40 yard catch with no YAC possibility. & we settle for a FG.

As a winner you have to know when to take those chances & when not to. If you’re taking them all the time & they don’t work out as often as they fail, you’re doing too much (Jonny Manzelle).

If you’re never taking those chances & you can’t beat the good teams, you’re not doing enough

If a team doesn't win a championship with Watson at qb, more than likely, like with most qb's the team isn't good enough. Its not different than non playoff game winning, most pick6 throwing Matt Stafford won a superbowl. Winning a superbowl has as much to do with the organization as it does the qb. Eli Manning has as many as his brother and Flacco has as many as Rodgers, but are they in the same category in terms of qb play?

In terms of not showing improvement. I'm going to go out and say you're probably one of the few in the entire football world who believes that. There is a reason that despite the accusations, teams were willing to meet the Texans demands. If not for the NTC, they could've gotten even more. If the demands weren't no teams in the divisions they could've gotten even more. So basically you're probably one of the few people in the football world who think he isn't a championship level qb. You also said by 2024 this team should be in the championship game also.

I did and said so at the time. Even the games I went to, you could see him not cutting the ball loose after planting like he was about to really drill the ball.

The thing I've seen about Mills with his motion and how he throws is that a lot of the time, he seems to be falling away as he throws it. It's like he's throwing and backing up to get away from the rush or something, planting his feet to throw, but then bailing AS he throws.

If I had never seen that motion before, I'd be very bothered about it. I'd question his heart.

But the two other people I've seen that throw that way are Brett Favre and, I think, Philip Rivers. Favre was the first one I ever saw do it. And I think questioning his heart would be one of the stupidest things I could do. So I won't, but Favre had enough arm strength to do anything he wanted to, break any rule he wanted to, and he could muscle his way through it.

Mills doesn't seem to have that kind of arm. With Mills, most of the time, the ball seemed to get where he wanted it to go but there were a few times when I felt like that issue with his throwing motion cost him. So I'm hoping he fixes that.

I don't know if that was the same thing you were seeing, but that's what I was seeing.

Some of it can be a eye trust thing. If he's going to be successful in this league, he's going to have to process the information he see, trust and fire like Kirk Cousins, like Andy Dalton, like Matt Schaub. He has an nfl arm, but its not special to where he can wait and fire it in the spot. Many times he would dig in,raise up,then reset and toss the ball vs firing it in the spot. So the wr has to adjust vs catch and turn up and run. This year is going to be ultra important to him with at least 3 high 1st rd picks coming out of college with a potential of rebirth with Rattler and if I'm the Texans, i would have a pro personel at as many Packers practices looking at Jordan Love also. If Mills is just ok and the team wins 4 or 5 games, you have to get another qb if not for competition purposes.

I'm a Mills believer but I wouldn't have been mad if they'd have drafted another QB this year.
I probably wouldn't have agreed with the use of the pick, but wouldn't be upset about it

Man let the season play out. If if if if. This is one of the reasons why I want them to be successful. So we as fans can really appreciate the team. This losing crap sucks.
Yeah, the only thing that keeps me from feeling like a Jags fan is that no matter how bad we are we still beat the hell out of them 😊.. but the Jags beat the Colts regardless, so.

Btw, I'm looking forward to watching Davis "nobody" Mills have a better pro career than Trevor "Golden boy" Lawrence. I get all the Urban Meyer crap that transpired last year..but at no point last year did he look like a #1 ovrl talent, much less a generational talent. He could fall below multiple QBs taken in his draft class.

I think Lawrence is going to break out like Goff did when he got McVeigh vs Fisher. I don't know what that actually equate to wins, but they ra the ball for almost 5 ypc even with the 1st rd pick missing the entire season.

We watched different games. TLaw is very talented. #1 overall, I don't think there are many people 2nd guessing the Jags on that pick.

I do question his mental make up. Is he tough enough? Is he coachable? Time will tell

They’re not second guessing because he was the number one pick. So they will give him a longer leash. But if he doesn’t improve, the bust tag will start surfacing.

How long did it take "people" to start second guessing the JaMarcus Russell pick?

Trevor Lawrence is extremely talented. If you can't see that you're hating.

Still, the fan in me wants Mills to be the better QB.
