BADBOY'S 2022 draft and trades

I see him as a Parsons light kind of guy.
I don't see anything like that. I see more of a Baron Browning, from last year. Great size and measurables. So-so production out of a very talented defense. Went late 3rd.

I'm not pounding the table for him, but LSU's Damone Clark is closer to the guy you're describing Walker to be. Similar size and athleticism. Big time program and competition. But, Clark was more productive. More tackles, TFLs, sacks, INTs, PDs. He was the guy. I would still question taking Clark at #37, but I would certainly take him over Walker.

I value Walker's positional value more than Clark's.

I think due to how Walker was used he's just scratching the surface of his ability. I also like Clark but I see him as a MIKE only type guy.

Just curious who is your cornerback? Tavierre Thomas is basically the only one; was only on the team one year.

I’ve definitely got some late round guys to round out the defensive backfield. Check out a couple of my last Mock’s. This is a nice and deep defensive draft in regards to finding late round prospects.

I have enjoyed reviewing your mocks however Tavier Thomas and a late day 3 pic or two doesn't really excite me. Of course I consider Lonnie Johnson gone in a trade and that might not happen.

And where do you play Walker in this defense?
You would play Walker in the same position in Lovie's D that Wade played JJ Watt in his D, a 4- 3, 5 Technique, DE. The same position the NYG played Michael Strahan. He compares himself to Myles Garrett. That's also where Walker said he would be most productive. All IMHO

His production was down because of the way he was used.

Exactly, Walker was an interior lineman in Georgia's 3 - 4 D. A 3 technique DE. Their lineup was DT - Wyatt; NT - Davis; DE - Walker (all Combine All-Stars), Georgia had a host of other all-stars at the Combine. Georgia will likely have 8 members from their #1 D drafted this year. They spread their wealth around and did not rely on certain individuals to carry the day. Plus their bench is full of all-stars. One other thing I like about Walker is he played a position knowing his production would not reflect his true abilities and he did not complain. A team player. When asked where he would be most productive in the pros, Walker responded he wanted to be a 5 technique (outside of the OT). Compares himself to Myles Garett (who was #1 pick in 2017 draft).

You may not be, but from what I've seen I would certainly be pounding the table for Clark if the debate was which LB to take.

Trades: A) Watson to Philadelphia for 15, 16, 19 and 51. The 2021 roster made playoffs & DW much better than Hurts who might be included in deal. Philly takes hit early & then looks to 2023 for draft. Pressure from competitive bids causes all in approach.

B) 1.3 to Seattle for 9, 40 and 41.
C) Tunsil to Bengals for 31 and 63. I still think Miami could be in play here.

Of course the fun part is we all have our guys and thoughts on who to where for what. Note this mock represents what I would do as GM of each team based on my view of needs not what that team might do. Hope you enjoy!

While I like some of the guys you chose, I don’t foresee Philly trading all 3 picks this year. I also don’t see SEA trade up for Pickett. I think the only QB to go in the top 10 will be Willis.

I think having 5 1st Rd picks would be hard on the cap space, but the DW trade should free up 24mil. I think my favorite picks are actually Gardner and Johnson although I think Johnson might go sooner.

Don't you agree this is a defensive leaning draft? Caserio should just take the best player. That will help Mills and everyone on the team.
Well, with Lovie running everything it’s going to be a defensive draft regardless how it leans.

Cap space not impacted much and moving from 3 to 9 saves a bunch.
As I said QB evals all over the place but just wait until we get closer to the 28th. That's when the Panic starts to set in.

5 1st

LMAO, come on man.

Hypothetically speaking, would you have given up 5 1sts for a Brady or Rogers (Manning?) in the prime of their careers?

And no, I'm not comparing Watson to any of those, so don't go down that rabbit whole.

Tell me how much % of the cap they would be taking up?

Hmm...if Philly wants him bad enough and that is what will seal the deal, why wouldn't they? Their future drafts would be clear - except maybe for a second.

Believe It or Not! There is a GM/HC out there who would pull the trigger.
To reiterate I traded DW for three firsts The other two came from additional trades. It looks like Carolina is willing to trade #6, Burns 2019 1st, Moore a 1st rounder and perhaps one of the cornerbacks in Anderson or horn also first round pick.

Panthers and Browns out on DW and Falcons seem the landing spot so I am focusing on some of those round twos we should have if deal goes thru as I hope. We will have our own #37 and ATL #43 and #58 minimum unless Nick lets them keep one and get 2023 round two. That's a significant stash and I want to again bring up players to consider that I really like.

DE Cameron Thomas 6'4" 267 a junior in 2021, Thomas exploded with 12 sacks (7th nationally in sacks per game), 21 QB hits, and a massive 44 QB hurries. 20 TFL. He was awarded the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, as voted on by the coaches and media. I was hoping to land Brian Burns from Carolina Panthers but this guy could look good playing with Greenard.

CB Roger McCreary
As a freshman, McCreary didn't see a lot of action and it wasn't until his sophomore season he saw extensive playing time. In that year despite not being a starter he still managed 41 tackles and 10 passes defended and this performance led him to him winning the starting spot for 2020.

Starting all 12 games in the regular season for Auburn, McCreary totaled 49 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, a sack, 2 interceptions, and 14 pass deflections.
As a senior McCreary really started to get the attention of NFL scouts where in 13 games as a starter he played a huge 830 snaps, logging 49 tackles, 2 interceptions, 13 passes defended, and an impressive 57.8 QB rating when targeted - as a result, he received first-team All-SEC recognition and was named a first-team All-American team by The Athletic and made ESPN’s and the Senior Bowl’s All-American teams. McCreary ran a 4.5 40-yard dash at the Combine and bettered that with his first 40 at Pro Day with a 4.46. Measuring at 5-foot-11 and 3/8 and 191 pounds, McCreary also 31.5-inch vertical and did 19 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

McCreary allows Nick to avoid CB in round one {not what I would do} if we get AJ Terrell from DW trade.

FS/CB Dax Hill: I love this guy and can play all DB spots!
  • Crazy athletic talent - Hill ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash, which ranked 14th overall at the combine. Hill’s 20-yard shuttle (4.06 seconds) and three-cone drill time (6.57 seconds) were the best at safety
  • Aware zone safety who is also adept in man coverage could happily move to corner if required
  • Gets an effective jam on the receiver and has loose enough hips to turn and run.
  • Long-armed press safety with size, athleticism, and ball skills.
  • Hill put up the top SPARQ rating in the 2019 class
  • Lean, athletic build with plenty of room for additional muscle mass.
  • Gives up his body in run support with a very good closing burst.
  • With his length, athleticism, and natural ball skills, he will be highly valued by press cover teams and could earn a top 50 pick.
  • Good instincts and anticipation reads and reacts with discipline. Dangerous with the ball in his hands.
  • Plays the ball as if it was thrown for him, showing burst back to the ball as well as good timing for the jump ball.
  • A surprisingly good tackler who despite his corner like appearance can quite happily play in the box
IOL Zion Johnson is all over mocks as late round one early round 2. Even if we took Ekwonu I would strongly recommend Johnson at 2.37 for RG and if Salyer falls to our 3.80 darned if I don't take him for our new right tackle. How about:

LT Tunsil LG the monster Ekwonu OC Britt RG Zion {1 sack in 2300 snaps! 0 pressure and only 4 missed blocks last year} RT Jamaree Salyer.

Think Warhog (pun intended) could move some defenders and protect Mills?

Nice line! I would take Salyer highish in the second to make sure we get him. If we can snag a quality starter for our RT, then pull the trigger!

It’s going to be an interesting OL situation with Tunsil returning at LT, Howard at RT or LG, Heck at RT or RG, and Britt / Morrisey at Center. I think an OG starter and a OL development player is what I’m beginning to expect from draft.

OG: Kenyon Green (A&M), Zion Johnson, (BC) or Salyer (GA) would be plug-n-play options. RD1 or RD2.
OL: Andrew Stueber (MI) would fit the roll of development player perfectly in my book. RD3 or RD4.

What do you think about long time Jaguars starter (worked with Warhop) Aj Cann whom we just acquired?

I know you didn’t ask me but other than last season he has played at least 14 games every year of his career as a starting RG. He’s not great but he’s not being paid like it either. He’s paid to be quality depth and if he happens to continue to be a starting RG for the Texans even after they make another move in the draft or FA then he probably will be an upgrade over Scharping.

I’d like to see Cole Strange, Tyler Smith or Salyer get drafted round 2/3 range to own a starting OG position in addition to Neal or Ekwonu at 3 to be this year’s RT or LG.

I want two quality OL added to the mix coming out of this draft. Maybe trade Howard if they get Neal or Ekwonu since he’s the only holdover beside Tunsil that can probably fetch a day 3 pick.

I understand. I’m just not feeling it.

What you’re saying makes sense. The Texans have yet to do anything that makes sense to me except Lovie Smith, but that was a happy accident.

I’m feeling the Texans are going to go heavy defense & skill positions. I think they’re mostly “happy” with their OL & blame coaching, from David Culley to Campen for the putrid run game

Depends on the position. They look to be loading up on LBs with the Cashman trade and Reeves-Maybin signing as well as re-signing Kirksey.

They re-signed Britt and added Cann to OL.

They added MJ Stewart but he is more of a depth piece that hasn’t lived up to his draft status (maybe him and Lonnie Johnson can compete for that roster spot?)

Point is based on the moves made in short offseason so far can’t really tell one way or another what direction they’ll go in draft until the diva is traded and we see if they add a premium player to “check a need off the board” in addition to picks.

And until I am proven wrong on draft day I am holding out hope the Texans add two quality OL!

If Caserio added Neal then Salyer at 37 and Strange at 80 this OL would be fixed for the next decade.

With all the OL returning….it could be tough adding 3 more in 2022.
Add the talent and figure it out

The reason for drafting 3 ol in the top 80 is because those other guys suck. Not saying I would draft 3 ol but 2 would have to be under consideration.

What Rd do you think Velus Jones goes in?

Have to agree.
One highish and one in the bottom half of the draft to develop.
Add another weapon in the backfield and another weapon to the receiving corp and that will help the Oline.
Add to this that Mills should have benefitted immensely from last season and will have another off-season to prepare and the Oline should have plenty of help and room to improve.

Jones is fast…very fast. Will be 25 years old when the season kicks off. Based on his age….sure he didn’t go to BYU?

Jones has a better chance at making an NFL roster as return specialist than a WR. He could be that 4th or 5th receiver in Full Spread Offensive plays…Hail Mary’s, etc.

Cordell Volson would be a good choice to draft in the later rounds.

He looked very good in the Sr. Bowl and the practices. Has great run after catch skills. Played alot in the slot a Tennessee, but can play outside as well. I'm hoping he falls to the 5th and Caserio moves up to get him.

If Texans believe he is a difference maker, why not take him at #108?
Let me ask you - the #108 - is that the real number after all the compensatories, or do they get added and 108 is bumped down?

Cordell Volson would be a good choice to draft in the later rounds.

The 2 OT's I would be looking at in the 3rd/4th rd range if I needed an OT like the Bears do are Kellen Diesch and Matt Waletzko. Both need development but are extremely athletic and will start sooner rather than later, depending on which team drafts them.

If Texans believe he is a difference maker, why not take him at #108?

They need a well rounded TE just as much if not more than a slot WR. I think there's great value to be had and if I had to trade a future pick, a player or two 6ths and a 7th to make this happen I would do it in a heartbeat. Of course I'm higher on Jones than most people.

It was stated in the draft pick thread that it was #108. Before we thought it was the Rams pick.

We keep drafting TEs and none of them were what we thought they would be. Guess I could say that about other positions also.

So many guys I like in round two that I keep thinking of trading down round ones.

Hard for me not to pick Ahmad Gardner. If we could get Zion or Green at 37 and Salyer in third, I would gamble Cross drops to 13 as CBS has him.

Maybe they should use guys to their strength. We know the Miami te is not a blocker. He can learn to be a functional blocker, but he's no Gronk. Don't try to make him Gronk. Let him use his gifts as a Y-Flex like Dallas Clark who was a below average blocker. Thats all I'm saying.
