if you call getting to choose your next team and $230m guaranteed a “clown show” i guess you are right. Instead, I views him clowning the franchise.

Oh, he's far worse than a clown, money doesn't change that.

You make it seem like Derrick achieved some great feat by clowning Calhoun. LMAO, good thing is this will be the end of Calhoun handing out NTC's.

I've read where posters saying they don't ever want to deal with Mulugeta, but his client list will force teams to deal with him like Drew and old school Les.

Yep, but when it comes to the draft and FA, If 2 players are comparable then I'm taking the guy who isn't represented by Mulagetta.

For those who are still thinking we didn't get enough in return, you may take solace in the fact that this is only the 2nd time in NFL history that player was traded in return for 3 first round picks.............the only other was the Herschel Walker trade.............33 years ago..........in 1989.

You know I don’t think some would be happy with the 3 1rsts and the entire rams defense thrown in!

The Browns' pick the Texans had previously acquired accounted for how Watson was able to be obtained by the Texans in the 2017 Draft. Ironically, I see a good chance that the Browns will eventually start reciting "Ashes to ashes dust to dust".

Normally I would agree with you, problem is when you choose Cleveland it's a clown show. Try to rip the wig and tug the nose off.. Still a Clown show.

Let's all be thankful the circus is no longer in town.. Cleveland is screwed 😆

The Browns have a great legacy of QBs. Mayfield will add to that, as he will become just the third quarterback in NFL history to go No. 1 overall in the draft and last four or fewer seasons with the team that drafted him. JaMarcus Russell and Jeff George are the other quarterbacks with that distinction.

To be fair, I think the Falcons were a done deal too. The Browns just happened to go nuclear at the last minute.

And BTW, he did suspend his account for a few hours, but turned it back on.

To add to this - Watson at the last minute upped the ante. Probably after having a verbal agreement with Atlanta, or giving them the assurance that it was done Watson went behind their backs and called the Browns to ask for guaranteed money. Browns obliged.

That is the same thing he did with Carolina and Carolina said no. The Falcons were given the chance and weren’t saying yes.

I can't blame them.

Given his track record, If I were an owner wouldn't give the green light on guaranteed money at that price no way, no how...

Now if he had shown himself to be a man of his word and honor... maybe.. but even then...

A diva with two torn ACLs in his past and quit on his previous team....I would have laughed at that phone call.

Browns raised their bid to entice the Texans to hold off, but what sealed the deal was the idiotic quarter billion guaranteed contract they gave him. It was fantastic what NC got for him after that contract got DW off his “Jesus Christ is his savior” lies while coming out of the jury decision.

He may have realized he needed to be saved!

I wonder if it were the Brown’s who reached out to team Watson after Carolina put out that thing about not wanting to guarantee years 3 & 4

I think its most likely the Browns reached out to him with a Hail Mary and it worked. The team he wanted was his hometown and I believe he was set to go (Atl pushing back til Tuesday) but the 230million legally binding promises does womders to change minds.

Shhh..Let him continue thinking Watson was working the phones, making agreements and restructuring contracts. I guess Mulugeta is not going to get any commission from this deal.

If Herbert and Burrow keep playing like they are, yall going to tell me they can't command a NTC? Again, qb's have always had the hammer, just refused to use it. Thats going to change really soon.

I believe this will be the end of NTCs being handed out without restrictive language.

I would agree. When 1 player can hold a team hostage so to speak. That is not a good system to use/have in place. One thing that could have been changed and would work is a NTC unless the player demands a trade. At which time the NTC is void

That article puts it in razor sharp perspective - a must read.

I liked the way they explained it. Without making it sound like they are picking on the Browns. More just saying what they think could happen and fan mindset. It could be different but this is a sure fire 1 side of the coin possibly

Deshaun Watson-to-Browns deal reveals ugly NFL truth
By Steve Serby
March 20, 2022 3:12am

Imagine if you are a long-suffering Browns fan. Imagine if you are a woman. Or someone who respects women.
Can you in good conscience root for the Browns now?

Or imagine if you are simply an NFL fan. Most of us are. It is, after all, our national pastime.
Can you in good conscience root for Deshaun Watson?

How can you not, at the very least, be conflicted?

When Vince Lombardi repeated those immortal words — “winning isn’t everything, but it’s the only thing” — he couldn’t possibly have imagined an NFL in which morality takes a holiday and he-said is valued more than she-said … at all costs.

Because as always, if you can play, you do not have to pay.

Oh yes, Roger Goodell and company will surely move to save some face when he imposes a politically correct, six-game suspension — which will amount to pocket change lost for Watson — intended to show what amounts to the league’s zero-tolerance policy on the new face of the franchise in Cleveland as per the personal conduct policy.

Alas, there is no zero-tolerance policy for a 26-year-old zero who might be great enough to lead a franchise to its first Super Bowl championship.

Watson emerging from the shady, disturbing 22 civil and nine criminal and sexual assault and harassment accusations from his assortment of aggrieved massage therapists with the largest contract in NFL history? A five-year, fully-guaranteed $230 million reward?

As they would say on Nickelodeon: Slime pays.

Of course Watson is free to earn a living again following a year as a football leper. That isn’t the issue. The issue is his historic reward after a grand jury decided that the evidence was insufficient for a criminal trial. Which does not fall into the he’s-innocent-until-proven-guilty arena.

Browns announce trade for Deshaun Watson, touting “extensive” homework on his off-field issues
March 20, 2022, 12:03 PM EDT

It’s not quite as pervasive as Tim Tebow repeatedly saying he was “excited” to join the Jets a decade ago, but the Browns have found a buzzword to utilize in announcing their trade for Deshaun Watson.

“Extensive.”

That’s the one word that shows up in a trio of statements issued by the team in its official declaration of the acquisition of Watson. Quotes have been provided by owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam, G.M. Andrew Berry, and coach Kevin Stefanski.

“We spent a tremendous amount of time exploring and investigating the opportunity to trade for Deshaun Watson,” the Haslams said. “We are acutely aware and empathetic to the highly personal sentiments expressed about this decision. Our team’s comprehensive evaluation process was of utmost importance due to the sensitive nature of his situation and the complex factors involved. We also understand there are still some legal proceedings that are ongoing and we will respect due process. It was pivotal that we, along with Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski, meet with Deshaun to have a straightforward dialogue, discuss our priorities, and hear directly from him on how he wants to approach his career on and off the field. He was humble, sincere, and candid. In our conversations, Deshaun detailed his commitment to leading our team; he understands and embraces the hard work needed to build his name both in the community and on the field. Those in-depth conversations, the extensive evaluation process, his dedication to being a great teammate and devotion to helping others within the NFL, within the community, and through his charitable initiatives provided the foundation for us to pursue Deshaun. We are confident in Deshaun and excited about moving forward with him as our quarterback and supporting his genuine and determined efforts.”

The statement seems to acknowledge, if not brace for, the blowback to acquiring Watson. The teams who pursued him surely realized that they would get a long-term franchise quarterback in exchange for a short-term P.R. and availability problem.

“We look forward to having Deshaun as our starting quarterback,” Berry said. “We have done extensive investigative, legal and reference work over the past several months to provide us with the appropriate information needed to make an informed decision about pursuing him and moving forward with him as our quarterback. Deshaun has been among the very best at the position and he understands the work needed to re-establish himself on and off the field in Cleveland. We are confident that he will make positive contributions to our team and community as we support his return to football.”

The Cleveland Rape Crisis Center has received more than 1,000 donations since the Cleveland Browns traded for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson on Friday, it said on Saturday morning.

Watson, who missed all of last season after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, was traded to the Browns in exchange for five future draft picks. The deal will also reportedly give Watson the most guaranteed money sum in NFL history.
“We understand the story surrounding Deshaun Watson joining the Cleveland Browns team is triggering for far too many of our friends and neighbors,” the organization said in a statement. “For those who need additional support, please know Cleveland Rape Crisis Center is available to you 24/7/365.
“To the community we say, we see you. We hear your outrage. We feel it too. Every click. Every post and every tweet. Every donation sends a clear message.”
