DW4 Traded to Cleveland

as Meghan Trainor sang It's All About the Bass not the draft picks.

The Saints are approximately 4 million dollars in the red in cap space. So they need to come up with approximately 40 million dollars to absorb Watson
So who would HOU want that would allow NO to acquire DW?

Watson is more valuable now. Teams will want to have him in the building to learn the offense and build chemistry. Not to mention they will have plenty of time to restructure and still fill out the team in FA.
Then they would have to prove it. Otherwise sit on him. He can’t afford to set out another year when he will then be approaching his later 20’s. NTC be damned, it’s has no value unless the Texans want to release him. He’s not ultimately calling the shots. It’s just a pressure point at NC’s disposal.

I don't think they have the draft picks, there's a hell of a drop off in talent from Carolina's 6th to N.O. 18th! And every pick we get from N.O. this year will be 12 picks behind Carolina's. You have to figure next year will be the same. If Carolina has him, he'll probably be suspended for 8 or 10 games so they'll wind up again with high picks that'll be going to us. In what universe does choosing N.O. make sense. What am I missing? I'm hoping this is all about putting the heat on Carolina to over pay for him.

I'm not familiar enough with NO'S roster to know who's worth a damn or not, but I would expect all parties recognize this. I'd hope they're throwing in a lot more to compensate for draft order. What player's would you want on the saints roster?

They have some defensive studs and an elite RB who will be suspended for at least 8 games.

I think this may be Caserios leverage:

All parties know Watson will likely be suspended...maybe for a full season. Caserio is the gate to get to Watson...present an acceptable offer or no access. If Watson says no to all teams or tries to bring down the known price, Caserio let's him rot in suspension for a season without being paid and possibly without accruing a season on his contract. If Watson accepts an offer, the new team may be able to rework his deal and convert some (maybe a lot) of his 2022 salary to bonus that won't be impacted by suspension.

Just a thought, but it would be powerful leverage to a young man who likes cars, massages, and paying hush money.

Sounds pretty smart for a file clerk.

Don’t forget. NC can do nothing and let the offers go insane once the season starts.
That is an option but I just don't see it happening at all. Too much value in the draft and then you throw in Burns and Chinn. Burns has an 89.2 PFF pass-rushing sets. Greenard 89.2 overall.

The two could be for Houston what Ojabo and Hutchinson were for Michigan. Add Chinn and Sauce Gardner and we could have a very very good defense.

I agree and just WAG that the Panthers pick will be in the top 6 to 8 as well ours again in 2023. If Davis Mills is the deal we can have the same opportunity to trade down both of those round ones and pick up significant players.

Revisiting Saints trading entire draft for Ricky Williams and the deals that almost happened
By Peter KingApr 15, 2019, 1:51 PM EDT

Two decades ago Wednesday, the New Orleans Saints made one of the craziest trades in NFL history. They traded all six 1999 draft choices and their first-round and third-round picks in 2000—eight draft choices in all—to Washington to move up seven spots in the first round of the ’99 draft to pick Texas running back Ricky Williams.

“Twenty years ago—that’s crazy,” the Washington coach at the time, Norv Turner, said Friday. As was the deal. At the time, so much about it was revolutionary. The noted draft-value trade chart, invented by the Cowboys a few years earlier, had the Saints trading away 4,441 points of draft value in exchange for 1,700 points—the value of the fifth overall pick. “When the coaches were told about it that day,” Turner said, “we looked at each other and said, ‘This isn’t real. You gotta do that.’ “ And GM Charley Casserly, negotiating with Saints GM Billy Kuharich, agreed to it eagerly.
All those picks equaled nothing for Washington football team.

I think Cleveland is going to be the best option if he wants to compete now. They have shown to be pretty good at drafting recently and they have 17m in cap space. Those 3 1st rd picks and 2 2nds want hurt them because they already have a superbowl caliber roster minus the qb right now. Texans get their picks, Browns get their qb

Mention of that name alone has a strong chance of ruining the trade. Stop it!

Panthers signed de'onta Foreman coming off his best performance in 2021. Possible pressure on McCaffrey but I see it as possibly making chubba Hubbard part of the trade package for a Watson.

How do you get another team to take the 18 million dollars off of the quarterback to allow them to sign Watson? I just can't imagine Watson wanting to go to Cleveland.

Or they’ve offered up McCaffrey And need his replacement. McCaffrey, Chin, Burns

Or in the interview DW4 mentioned some positives about playing with Foreman when he was with the Texans. And Viola! IMO I doubt McCaffrey would be part of a trade when Panthers are selling their offense to DW4. Now Burns and Chinn are different story.

C'mon man, the bank of Garrett. They have 16m of cap space now, they could convert money of Myles or restructure Watson if he really wants to come there. Not only that, someone would want Baker for 1 yr just as Wentz just got traded, Goff, as well as a slew of others who needed a qb. Its not hard

No one in my opinion. I think the Saints and the Browns are out of it even if they don't believe it yet. The Panthers are willing to give up what Caserio wants and we think that Watson has agreed to go there. I expect Watson to be traded in the next 3 days more than likely tomorrow.
Man, they’ve got to get Burns and Chinn if CAR is the team. Get Sauce at 6 and in the blink of an eye, the defense is legit.
Go offense the rest of the way and get Mills weapons.
