DW4 Traded to Cleveland

If you blast through this article, you would be led to believe that the Commanders have already offered two 1st round picks for Russell Wilson. Then from this, they propose that three 1st round picks is likely to be offered for Watson.

Go back and pay special attention to the wording and you discover that not only do they not know that the Commanders have offered two 1st rounders for Wilson, but that three 1sts for Watson is purely an ill-based poorly extrapolated supposition that they like so many media have pulled out of their rears.
Your last sentence is exactly how I responded to that article but used different words that were a bit more shall we say graphic?

I'm sorry, but you're fired as Texans GM. Security will be escorting you out of the building, and Jack Easterby will be taking your office.
Easterby is taking over someone else's office! Let the rumor train start chugging. Cal watch out! It could be your office next!

(I moved this over here so mods wouldn’t have to)

I said it before and will say it again - you should start preparing yourself to get nothing for Deshaun Watson.

If a player gets suspended for an entire season for gambling on the NFL that “could complicate the integrity of the game” - what would the NFL do to a player that possibly sexually assaulted a number of women?

“Ridley placed multi legged parlay bets involving 3, 5 and 8 games that included the Falcons to win via his mobile device.”

It’s a different time now than it was 3 to 5 years ago.
Ridley did admit that he had gambled. Also I'm not saying it's right but I think the NFL feels that players gambling is more of a black eye for lack of a better word than sexual claims against players.

There Is No Way Dan Snyder Could Be Dumb Enough To Trade For Deshaun Watson....Right????
Nate3/07/2022 12:00 PM

No. I won't even spend a long time on this blog. Simply- no. No chance in hell Dan Snyder is dumb enough to do this. He can't be. Out of every bad football decision he has made, this would easily be the worst. You cannot trade for a guy who is facing 4 million lawsuits for sexual assault right now, while you are simultaneously being investigated by the NFL for sexual assault. Deshaun Watson is about to go to a grand jury. I don't know what that means. I'm not going to do more research to find out. What I do know is when the words "sexual assault" and "grand jury" are being tossed around, Washington should have nothing to do with it. Less than nothing. In fact, we should never have a player with the first name of Deshaun or last name of Watson ever again. Maybe no Clemson players either, just to be safe.

We are a team desperate for a QB. DESPERATE. And there have been a ton of rumors the last week or so- Russ Wilson, Trubisky, and Wentz are the names being floated the most. A little Jimmy G as well. Out of all of those, obviously I'd love Russ for the next few years, but he will come at a high cost. Trubisky for some reason is the hottest name on the QB market, and then Wentz right after him. Honestly I don't see the difference between a guy like Marcus Mariota and Trubisky, and Mariota would come at a cheaper price. The NFL's sudden love affair with Mitch is stunning and whoever is doing his PR deserves a big fat raise.

back to Deshaun- just no. No, no, no.

Unless of course it's the straw that actually breaks Snyder's back. I could see a scenario where Snyder gets so cocky and so arrogant that he trades for Deshaun and the other owners decide enough is enough and use it as a reason to boot Snyder out of the league. If that is a real scenario and not one I just made up, I'll sign up for it right now. Any other scenario that involves Deshaun though? Absolutely, 100%, no. No, no, no.

PS: If all the charges get dropped and literally zero comes from this than it's a different story. I still would be very, very iffy about it. But as it stands now, just absolutely not.
Side note, this is first I've heard that Trubisky is hot commodity.

Watson is the last franchise QB in the market. With Aaron Rodgers signing for $50M a year, Watson's contract now looks more attractive. When Watson's legal issues are clarified, Texans will be in the driver's seat. Civil suits could be an irritant but shouldn't prevent Watson from participating in team activities. The key will be to see what developes or is settled in three weeks.

Watson and his no trade clause will be the co-pilot.

Yeah, Watson may have to dump his co-pilot if he even has a remote desire of seeing a NFL playing field in 2022. Denver found their answer, Miami is sticking with Tua, and the Giants will be keeping Jones. Watson isn't going to have many options left on the board. Currently, the Commanders, Panthers, Eagles, and maybe the Seahawks might be the only vultures flying overhead. I just don't think the Panthers or Seahawks have the assets to get a deal done. It's pretty much going to swing back to what I've said for awhile.....it's going to be one of the NFC East teams that'll take Watson out of Houston.

Eagles aren't nearly as panicked as the Commanders but they could probably bring the best package to the table and still keep 2 of their RD1 picks in this years draft. I believe either team could pull the trigger but Caserio's going to have to eat a lot of the risk....otherwise he's got Watson sitting and sucking up his 2022 payroll/cap.

not to mention the eagles have experience in taking on a player with a bad public image stemming from some bad off the field trangressions (Vick).

I'm guessing we're all living in a dream world with Caserio's ridiculous ask.
If Watson were pure as driven snow we might get close to what Wilson brought, but likely less.
But Watson is not likely to be traded period.
He will have no suitors & significant ongoing legal issues.

If someone offered the same picks with no players I would take it. With no conditions.
Unless you can flip the players, they're not helpful to a rebuild. I think if one of the 1sts is a guaranteed top 10, then 2 1sts and 2 2nds is a reasonable return. I want something more if all of the picks were future picks of unknown slot.

If I saw this correctly - Wilson was traded for 2 firsts and 2 2nds and players.

Just do it.

You aren’t going to get the kings ransom.
Wilson only has two years left on his contract and is 7 years older.

Wilson's deal is also cap friendlier, and can easily be extended.

Both guys have pluses and minuses. Both guys are similar in that they had no trade deals. There was/is also some urgency for both. Their respective values kind of wash out, so the Wilson return would not be a terrible value in a Watson deal.

I am just very pessimistic about getting anything for Watson that I would take almost anything.

Not to be captain obvious and point out something you already know - but something is still better than nothing. And worse case scenario Watson goes to jail the Texans could get nothing.

Seattle now has 4, 40 and 41 in 2022. Their own 10 is Jets. I could see Caserio working with something like that with a bit more in 23?

Edit Seattle now $35.5 m cap space.
Carrol has a losing record minus Russ. He's not going to see those picks develop into players. He's in the AFC with far and away the worse qb

My Top (3) latest landing spots for Watson and their potential offers:

1. Seattle - #9, #40 in 2022; 1st RD and 2nd RD in 2023; 1st RD in 2024 - Cap Space $34MM

2. Carolina - #6 in 2022; 1st and 2nd RD in 2023; 1st and 3rd RD in 2024 - Cap Space $31MM

3. Philadelphia - #15, #16, #51 in 2022; 1st in 2023. - Cap Space $20MM

We have a probowl LT and a promising young QB.

Lets trade both of them for draft picks. Gotta be someone better out there in draft land.:thud:

Sounds like a Texan thing to do.

:coffee:
Someone in draft land does not have to be better just very close to Tunsil such as Charles Cross who we could get with a trade down pick, save millions and control for five seasons in comparison for only 3 with Laremy. We would also get a guy who wants to be here as LT seems to have doubts. I am not pushing a Mills trade as I like him however depends on what is offered for him. Let's not get too excited about how well we are doing in 22 win column.

Especially since Mills said he wanted Pep to come back.. why would he want to leave?
I do not think TK was talking about Mills but rather Tunsil wanting out and no there is no evidence he no longer wants to be here just interpretation of his not returning from a thumb injury.

and best case scenario is Watson is not jailed or suspended in detriment to receiving trade partner and brings better package than Seattle received.

Probably somewhere in the middle. Just because I have negative feelings about Watson and want him gone, I realize that others (teams) may not see him as I do. The world sort of works like that also.

much to think about there.

Why? Lol that would’ve been dumb to trade that type of on the field talent. Especially when every darn fan on here been begging for a franchise quarterback. If Bill O’Brien wouldn’t have gotten to full of himself. This team probably wouldn’t be were we at today. And before you go all bunkers on me, I’m taking about how he robbed us of all the talent issues we have today. Something you blamed on a certain someone for years. Not going to mention his name lol

Simply put because they wouldn't be where they are today and history says you can't win a championship with your QB taking up more than 15 percent of the cap I don't believe Derrick is the guy to break this trend.

I'm all for spreading #1 picks over multiple years. Makes salary cap more manageable long term and feels out the 4-year rosters really well.
Under 'normal circumstances' I would agree but where Texans are at roster wise and how deep I see top 100 I want more picks in 2022. Eagles and Seattle with DW are going to be very late picks in 23 and 24 most likely. I prefer Seattle's 41 from Denver over Seattle's round one in 2023.

So, before the allegations or a trade before giving him that $160 million contract. What trade compensation would you have expected for a guy who isn't a bad QB, but not elite? Do you think a one to one trade for Jimmy G would be market value?
I don't know what his market value was, but I would've let him go for whatever the market value was, because I wouldn't have wanted to sign him to that contract which history says would've eliminated my franchise from having the ability to win a championship.

Seattle has Denver's picks 9 and 40. I wouldn't call those late Rd picks. 2023 picks are very speculative.

So you are of the opinion that the 41st player taken in the 2022 draft will be a better player than the 20th player taken in the 2023 draft. My money would be on the 5 yr contract player in 2023 vs the 4 yr contract player selected in 2022.

I would have info on who would be available at 41 not your #20 in 2023. The 5th year is often eliminated in not picking it up or reworking to lower and extend.

What a response. LMAO

20 > 41 in 99% of the cases.

Correct about the 5th yr option. That is if you're terrible at drafting.
