They should do six degrees of Josh Mccown. He’s the Kevin Bacon of the NFL.

I guess I should've added the caveat that Kelly had to go. I thought Culley improved as the season went on and he never lost the team. They played hard for him. With Hamilton as OC and Smith still at DC, a HC who has a season of experience under his belt and a full slot of draft picks, with (hopefully) a boat load more coming once Watson is shipped off, the talent level and coaching staff would be much better.

I think this is going to shape up pretty good. I would have gone with Gannon out of the bunch, but I'm good with Lovie, I think he'll do well. Pep promoted to OC, that'll work out well for Mills, maybe we throw an olive branch to McCown and see if he wants to start working on his resume by adding some experience, he can start by jumping in the fire as QB Coach.

I think maybe Lovie was always a fall back option they knew they had that they just didn’t divulge to anyone…explains the small number of candidates they interviewed & Pep declining the Panthers interview….Pep was likely told/asked if he’d be interested in moving into the OC position under the candidates they were considering. It was leaked that Lovie had been having “convos” with the FO all throughout this HC search.
I think they wanted to go in a different direction with someone younger and more open to the structure they wanted, but once they couldnt work out the staffing thing with Gannon, that pushed Lovie to the top of the list.
They didn’t really have to do much to land him either..he’d already been interviewed the year before for the DC position, they knew him & they probably asked him & probably Pep not to say anything until it was decided they were gonna move in that direction.

I get what you’re trying to say. Lovie doesn’t get you excited nor do you think he can get the Texans to a Super Bowl (which is the goal anytime you hire a coach… or should be).
But he’s demonstrably better than Culley at being a HC. Probably semantics, but just figured that needs to be said. Will being demonstrably better lead to 8-8 or 7-9 bs like Jeff Fisher used to say? Or will he surpass those expectations if there is an infusion of talent and Pep proves to be the OC he’s needed to complement him?

That exactly why, like it or not the Texans are privately owned as are 30 other teams. It’s not really in principle any different than any other business and the only real power you as a consumer have is to not spend your money on them. Beyond that it doesn’t matter what they do or do not know because yes the size of their bank account, and the power to buy the team it gave them, is the deciding factor.
LMAO. I got one too. I have no idea what to dislike about mentioning that on 01/17, I posted that at the end of their search, Lovie would be the HC.

The Texans are being laughed at for a lot of things IMO. 2 years in a row they’ve had a clusterfuck of a HC search. I mean, Caserio finally gets his shot out from under the umbrella of Belichick, and this is how it starts? 2 HCs in less than 400 days? 2 HC hires that nobody had on their radars? Interviewing 2 others for HC that nobody had on their radars? This is the guy we nearly got tampering charges thrown at us for and have been trying to get for 3 years?
Other than standing firm with not giving Watson away for nothing, I can’t think of one good thing Caserio has done since he’s been here. And why is he here to begin with? Yeah, that dude. AJ’s words still stand firm, not one good thing has happened since he entered the building.

We're just a joke. Nothing against Lovie, but if you can't coach college, the NFL might be kind of tough. I don't think anybody any good wanted the job. Easterby has had his input in making us the worst team in pro football, but the owners are to blame. As far as most people saying Caserio was the best thing since sliced bread, maybe that was just the Hoodie. Just my 2 cents. My wife and I had season tickets from year 3 until last year. What a waste of money. Not crying crocodile tears, just very disappointed in the lack of business and common sense by the team.

Just like the Culley hire, Lovie's hire was strictly a Cal decision.......not Caserio's. Cal cannot take any responsibility for anything. He made sure that Caserio would be responsible for firing Culley, as he will now make Caserio responsible for any failure of Lovie's.
From my sources, I can now say for sure that Caserio wanted Gannon. But things didn't work out. Meanwhile, Easterby was pushing hard in Cal's ear for McCown who was also in favor of McCown, but was totally gunshy of the criticism the Texas would incur because of McCown's inexperience. When things didn't work out with Gannon defensive background coach (and I haven't yet confirmed this, but believe from some things I've heard that Cal insisted on Lovie being kept on as the DC), things went south then. When the Flores lawsuit was revealed, it put a monkey wrench into everything. No one felt comfortable with hiring Flores. Easterby was still pushing Cal hard to choose McCown. But Cal essentially ignored Caserio's advice to pump the brakes. Cal, as he did with Culley, bypassed Caserio's advice and went with the "safe hand"............Lovie.
This is not good when an owner repeatedly does a grab of his GM and HC decision making. At least Jerry Jones as the owner/GM usually takes responsibility and heat for his "interventions," whether they turn out good or bad.

Might want to research Lovie’s Coaching career. He had far more success in the NFL than he did in college. Again college is all about recruiting, if your school can recruit the top athletes like Clemson or Alabama then you are going to dominate until you are against another top college. Then because you are a top college more top athletes want to go there so the rich get richer. It’s how colleges like Clemson, Bama and OU stay on top so long. If your college can’t get that top talent, like Illinois, Vince Lombardi himself couldn’t win.
Lovie wasn’t my choice because I wanted to keep him as DC but if it was a choice between making him HC or hiring a guy like Gannon who would want to bring his own DC in then I’ll take Lovie as DC. It’s why I wanted an offensive minded HC though so Lovie could have free reign with the defense. Oh well beggars and choosers.

I realize Lovie was 89-87 in the NFL but 17-39 ain't that good in college even if it is the Big 10. I got nothing against Lovie and I liked him as DC for us. However, his being picked as HC was complete BS. The ownership & FO is a bunch of idiots in my opinion.

Oh, I get that. That’s why I was surprised they fired Culley. It’s just the way the Texans go about it. They seem more concerned about how they’re going to spin things, than they are about rebuilding this football team.
Looks like Cal has been hanging out with Lovie as he's using Lovie speak here. "The offense was disappointing", "Those blown coverages? Yes, we're disappointed about that.", "The overall effort? We're very, very disappointed in today's effort.", How did this one get away? (referring to the big blown lead in the Kirk Cousins "you like that??" game) "To be honest, it's very disappointing". You guys failed to win a game at home this year ... "We know it's very disappointing to the fans and they deserve better.".
One of the radio stations here had a hilarious sound bite of all the different ways Lovie was using the words "disappointed" and "disappointing" in his post game pressers.
Hopefully Lovie will be less disappointed in Houston.

My feelings about the McNair's and this hire is that they allowed themselves to get boxed into a corner. Like the opposite of a boss.
Hey Porky, Is he not building the team the way he wants to build it? Lovie is a great teacher for the young defensive guys to learn from. At this point and for the next couple of yrs the teaching aspect of the job is the most important part of Lovie's job.
This is the primary reason fans want Easterby out of the building. The HC doesn't report to him. He should not be in this conversation. Who in their right mind would push for McCown to be a HC today? In this instance, Cal didn't listen to him. At some point, Cal will take his bad advice.

This is the second year in a row the McNair's fumbled the process of hiring a head coach. It's becoming routine that when they need to make an important hiring or firing (Gaine, then O'Brien, followed by Easterby at GM position and now the coaches) the McNair's make the process look awkward and questionable.

I’m OK with Lovie partly because he seems like a knowledgeable coach and has had past success in the NFL but mostly OK with Lovie because he isn’t Josh McCulley.
The hiring of Lovie looks like a ham handed, transparent sham to avoid scrutiny for hiring a woefully unqualified and inexperienced white man over more qualified minorities. Frankly I don’t care what the race is, I want this team to hire competent and qualified people. Haven’t they learned their lesson from unqualified personnel with David Culley and Jack Osteensterby? Evidently not. They still seem to be lusting for McCown but just knew the optics would be horrible if they hired McCown. I don’t have anything against McCown personally but the fact that Osteensterby wanted him so bad just taints everything just like Fat Travolta trading so much for Tunsil.
