Head Coach Candidate (Lovie Smith Hired) 2/7/22

I'm personally not high on any of the known candidates. Flores might make the most sense among a VERY VERY poor crop.

He has the NE/NC/JC...I mean JE connection. He is by far the most experienced. He did pretty well all in all considering the talent level in Miami, and he's an asshole. Oh ya that's the part I don't like - sorry. He's basically another BOB, although MAYBE a better version. It's difficult to know until he gets here and we get more coverage of the day-to-day, but from what I've heard out of Miami, he's another guy that rubs people that wrong way, stubborn, me first attitude, surly kind of guy. And for me, he's still probably the best choice out of the 3 or 4 top candidates.

That's not an outright endorsement, but we don't have a decent candidate. I'm torn between Gannon and Flores but Flores wins on experience and his NE ties. If NC/JE are going down - let them go down on NE south so we can purge this crap from Houston once and for all.

O'Connell? I mean he didn't call plays or really coordinate anything. He also has an excellent oline, and very good skill position players at his disposal. I could probably draw up an offense using that group of talent. We don't know if he can actually build something from scratch. That said...he is light years ahead of McCown and he isn't a completely unreasonable choice.

It's honestly embarrassing to be part of a fan base that accepts nonsense like McClown. Come on folks. I know the bar is low. But there isn't a cirque du soleil performer limber enough to get under the bar some of you are setting. It's really embarrassing to even read some of these comments. Demand better folks. If we aren't getting filet mignon can we at least ask for a chopped steak. Some of you seem to be happy with dumpster diving for the scraps the rats won't eat. Outright embarrassing.

Difference is I pay for filet mignon, I'm not paying anything to the Texans. I don't buy their merchandise, I don't go to the games, hell 3/4 of the time I don't even watch the games just catch highlights. This forum is the grant total of my investment in this team so I can talk about it from an almost zen state because ultimately nothing they do really affects me. I can enjoy watching the train wreck because I'm not on the train. For those trapped in season tickets though yeah I can fully understand their anger.
 
Flores would seem to be the best candidate for the Texans to hire. I can't get past the red flag of his firing by Miami after a reasonably good start there. He went 10-6 in 2020 and 9-8 this last year. What are the rumors surrounding his firing?

Didn't see eye to eye with GM. Owner chose GM over coach.

I’m not a fan of BO’b. I tried. Didn’t take. But I think he was a better HC than an OC. I don’t see this problem with Flores.

He’s a defensive coach & his defenses played well.

outside looking in I didn’t think he was a glorified DC playing HC.
 
I would prefer an offensive minded coach,unless you are firing Lovie. I thought he did the best job he could with the players he was handed. I don't want a defensive coach if he and Lovie are going to butt heads on philosophy.
 
OK, with the hiring process down to the three finalists;Flores, Gannon and McCown; I'm endorsing McCown. He's offensive minded and it will be interesting to watch the developement of the team under his leadership and guideship. And it's a huge plus that his hire will piss a lot of people off.

You are clearly over-generalizing the members here. Everyone in this forum has lives, 'cept maybe Thorn and he lives on a cloud.

I don't know anyone here that is 24/7 in this forum. This is a place to chat about the Texans and rah rah or poo poo or whatever. For many of us it's the only place we go to talk about the Texans, so you get a variety of perspectives and often folks will blast their opinions in 10 minutes but might not think about the team the rest of the day.

IF it's McCown, it just shows that Caserio is a liar and that contrary to what he said at his presser last week, Easterby has his hands all over "Football decisions". Theres no way that any GM worth his salt can, with a straight face put McCown out there as the best option out of ALL the highly qualified candidates to assemble a staff, be able to attract players and coach this team to a championship. No f'kin way! That's not why we brought Caserio here. I have to believe the bar was set higher on the Caserio signing and the talent he could attract to bring to this team.

BTW - whether he is hired or not, the influence of JE has been confirmed. What other team has interviewed him for HC once much less 3 times? You think that's out of the blue and a total coincidence right?

I think McCown is a misdirection, so whoever they end up with we will collectively be saying "At least it's not Josh McCown!" lol

That, or nobody else wants the job and they have to go with whatever chump is willing to step into this mess.

I can buy the misdirection thing, but there HAS to be a candidate better than McCown who would take the job.
 
If we were da Bears, the Giants, or Minnesota we would have better candidates. We can’t attract the best because of (insert your reason here.)

We have to make do.

There are better qualified candidates than others though applying for the position.

We have actually interviewed the same guys as those teams. Josh Mc. and Hines Ward things are the outliers. 4 of 6 we have interviewed are mainstream candidates.

Minnesota has interviewed Harbaugh and DeMeco. NY interviewed Daboll. (I don’t see where we interviewed him.

I believe in giving people a chance and having an open mind. Not the negative-1 crowd.

It's like you're either hoping or expecting the next HC to fail.

This type of attitude makes me want Cal to say screw this fanbase I'm going to hire McCown. That's what fans like you deserve. Plus it McCown was the hire it would be very entertaining around here and isn't that what this is all about? Entertainment

I’m not starting at -22

just like the Bengals had to play defense when the Mahomes won the toss.

I’m open minded & im giving him a chance. If his 1st move is negative, it’s negative. If his first move is positive, we’re moving in the right direction regardless the score.

let’s say he comes out singing David Johnson’s praise & starts talking about what they’re going to do to make him successful. He’s a little closer to pink soap for me.

I'm actually now kind of hoping McCown is the hire just to see posters around here responding to the hire. That would be very entertaining. If McCown was hired I would root for him to succeed. Although many here wouldn't because being right always comes 1st for some.
