I am a Christian too and go to church every Sunday. I don’t have a problem with FCA. What I do have a problem with is the Texans’ penchant for moronic, unorthodox moves that no other team in the league makes. NO OTHER NFL TEAM WOULD CONSIDER CULLEY OR MCCOWN. Their candidate list SUCKS and they are not even bothering to interview all the top candidates. When the motivation is to hire a coach which Caserio can meddle with and pretend to be a coach AND the relationship of a potential coach to Satan Easterby based on non-football factors leads to a Culley or McCown - you bet your ass I have a problem with it. This is the dumbest team in pro sports by far and are an embarrassment to Htown.

They continue their defiant, tone deaf stupidity and are doing the same crap with the coaching search that led to the worst NFL coach that I have ever seen. And you’re giving the benefit of the doubt to this team. The Culley hire was a slow train wreck that we all knew would be a disaster. The same thing is happening again. Sorry - the alarm is warranted. This team has the worst reputation in the league because of the brain trust in charge. Most likely the best candidates are giving this team the finger. What does that say if that is the case - coaches actively avoiding interviewing for one of the 32 jobs.

Easterby has destroyed this franchise. He was right there with buttchin making the worst moves I have ever seen. He is a coward that doesn’t take any accountability for the mess he has created and avoids the media to answer for his stupidity. Houston hates this asshole for those reasons. It is not some made up bs that the media has created. These are facts. The media in this town is soft. You think Easterby would be able to get away with this crap in Philly, Chicago and NY. I don't care who they hire as long as whoever it is brings passion, desire and some brains to the head set. Every coach at one time was a first time head coach, the logic is flawed. No one is born doing something, you work hard to get the opportunity and then you succeed or you fail. Hell i though Vrabel would be a horrible head coach and look at that dude... all you couch GMs know your ****

Sounds complex and not really necessary. It's the same concept as OB but for the defense and I am tired of seeing complex systems that don't work for the majority of teams and players. Lovie's defense works well when that's all he is focused on. The moment he gets more added to his plate his defense will falter. No reason to hire a defensive-minded HC. BTW look at the top teams in the league and the remaining teams in the playoffs. Offensive-minded coaches (except Sean M with Buffalo) You could argue Daboll is carrying that offense and Frazier is the light with the defense. Sean is managing things now, as it should be.
The league is transitioning away from defensive-minded head coaches and going towards offense. the league is making it easier and easier to score. you need to have a high-powered passing team in order to compete.
Lets see how this turns out.
Difference between us is I actually think McCown will make a really good HC. I know he doesn't have NFL experience as a HC but he's got great bloodlines here in Texas. His dad was a HC/Brothers etc... I believe right now McCown would be an upgrade over BOB/Culley with no NFL experience. He's been around alot of great HC's in his 20 yrs as player and the 12 teams he played for.
I understand the optics but my disdain for the media makes me tune out pretty much everything they say. They're irrelevant in my mind.

I'm not giving them anything. I remain skeptical but the championship games have not even been played. No HC has been hired league-wide. There are 8 other teams that haven't hired their coach. No candidates have been lost to others at this point. They may be getting turned down by some, but as of now, it's pure speculation. You want to get all riled up so early, go right ahead. May as well scream at the moon for being made of cheedar instead of swiss

What respectable coach is going to come in and inherit an Assistant HC/HC in waiting? Nobody. If that happens, they might as well have kept Culley for another year.

You know what I mean. No one ever heard of him, especially as an HC candidate until the Texans interviewed and hired him. I'm sure he's a very nice and respectable individual.
I’m saying just like no respectable coach would accept an assistant HC, Culley wasn’t found of the idea either

What exactly about the Culley hire was a disaster? He did exactly what he was suppose to do, be the anti-OB and be a cheerleader in a throwaway season. Or did you think they could have hired a coach, any coach, that would have had a good season? So they have to pay him lots of money, so what it doesn’t count against the cap so it doesn’t hurt the team. Most on here were saying Culley was a bridge coach well what exactly did you think a bridge coach would do?
As far as this team having the worst reputation I seriously laugh how little some people seem to know about other teams and how they do things. It’s like people here think all other teams function like the Patriots or something. Go look at the Lions who haven’t even gotten close to being a good team in decades. Go look at the Bengals who, despite their success this year, have long been known as the cheapest team in the league and he place careers go to die. And once you get through all that go look at Washington, a team who’s ownership is so bad it actually has congress doing an investigation on it.
Then come back and tell me how we are the worst team in the NFL.

Culley was the most inept and dumbest coach I have ever seen when it comes to game management at any level of football. If you’re newly in charge of an operation and your first big hire turns out to be an absolute turd, that doesn’t give us much confidence in the leadership of this team.
You can find out pretty quickly how sharp someone is. The same is true when it comes to determining if someone is dumb. This guy was way in over his head and had no ability to diagnose what ailed the team. He is a 65 YEAR OLD coach that NO OTHER NFL TEAM considered worthy enough to be a COORDINATOR. We made him the head ******* coach. Other teams properly sized Culley up as nothing more than a position coach because he lacks the brain power and other attributes necessary to be a HC. This guy was even dumber than Charlie Strong and that is saying something. You can hire a bridge coach that is competent and that commands respect -amongst the players, fans and media Culley quickly earned the reputation of being a joke. Stop defending the indefensible. This is the worst run team in the NFL. At least the Lions hired Dan Campbell and got good value in trading Matt Stafford. The Texans have hired the worst coach in recent memory and have made the worst trades as well. Lions fans wouldn’t trade their situation with ours.

Bill O’Brien has deservedly earned much scorn for his poor work as a Texans general manager. Easterby was there every step of the way.
At an off-the-record schmoozefest with media prior to the 2020 season, O’Brien and Easterby made it clear they were lockstep partners in ruining, er, running the Texans.

Though I agree Culley was hired to be their sock puppet, the question becomes why did they let him go? Other than having a couple of picks in the first 2 rounds, they aren’t any better off than they were at this time last year. It’s going to be another throw away season.
Did they fire him because the guy they really want said he’s ready? Is that guy not McDaniels or Mayo and is instead McCown?
Whatever the case may be, Caserio is now on his 2nd HC in as many years. I think they fired Culley too early because if this 2nd HC comes in and struggles, which he’s likely to because the roster is still in bad shape, that’s not going to be a good look at all. They go 4 wins again, then what? How many GMs get a shot at hiring a 3rd HC, particularly in a short period of time with very little winning being done?
The pressure on Caserio gets cranked up to full blast now. He can’t have low win totals with a 2nd HC.

You are talking completely out your backside. Great NFL coaches and players both said that Culley was ready and that he deserved a chance. The worst game management decision he made was the punt but every coach has made boned calls particularly their first year. You talk as someone that has never been thrown into the deep end and had to learn to swim and just hoping that those that threw you give you a chance to learn. It has been talked about several times that there were likely outside reasons for Culley not being given a chance. The fact you can say that Culley was the worst HC hire when we just saw the Urban Meyer circus shows that you are not thinking rationally or logically and are going off pure emotion and knee jerk emotions at that.

But you know what, for the sake of argument lets say you are right and all the bad contracts the Texans handed out Easterby was lockstep with OB on. First its Cal's fault for putting someone over contracts that has no business being there just like its his fault for giving OB the power he did. Do you really think its fair to blame and fire someone that was completely set up for failure when they, surprise, fail? Now Caserio has said that Easterby has nothing to do with contracts and other football decisions and, putting emotion and baseless things thrown around here and on media aside, all evidence points to that being true. So what does it matter if he is still there as long as he's not actually making football decisions?

I agree entirely and I wanted them to give Culley a second year. There are a couple of reasons I can think of that they didn't, first I thought it was because Brian Flores suddenly was available so that sped up the time table but that doesn't seem to be the case. Next I thought it was because Culley said that Tim Kelley was staying and while that may still be why I don't understand why Culley would go off the reservation like that unless he got flustered and spoke without running it by Caserio first. Your theory of the person they really want saying that he is ready could also be it. Might be Culley didn't like the idea of McCown being the assistant HC and basically training his replacement. We won't really know until they actually hire the next HC but I agree the pressure is on now for both this hire and the draft.

Exactly, a new perspective coach knows they will have little input on their staff, and the 53-man roster. Know that on game days Caserio will be in their ear and Easterby will be stalking them on the sideline. Additionally, they will be expected to live up to the McNair's religious expectations. I find it interesting that McDaniels wants the perfect situation. Alignment with a GM. And ownership. Supposedly he was willing to go to the Raiders with his be of the assistant GMs of New England. I think Ziegler is his name.

Texansfight is 100% correct. This is a slow motion train wreck and has been since BOB walked in the building. It then greatly accelerated when Bob McNair died (RIP) and his clueless kid took over. He and Janice have been manipulated ever since in an attempt to fill the leadership vacuum. Culley was worse. Don’t you remember the stupid timeouts. Coaching errors directly responsible for the loss to the Pats and declining the penalty on 3rd down to rather punt on 4th down. BOB was horrible but these mistakes were unprecedented when it comes to stupidity. I have never seen anything like that in 30+ years of being a NFL fan.

Didn’t you read that Solomon was present and both BOB and Rasputin made it clear - meaning directly from their own God damned mouths that they were in lockstep and jointly responsible for the decisions they made. The Kool Aid Brigade is in denial. The new GM's very first major decision was absolutely one of the worst hires in the history of the NFL. Today, the Brigade defends the hire as being part of process and he was only meant to be a bridge coach. What the hell is a bridge coach other than some kind of excuse that is dumber than the decision to hire Culley in the first place. From everything I have seen is a bridge coach puts a faux rebuild 2 to 3 years further behind. For sure there is a process in place, and all indications are 2022 is going to be worse than 2021. It's the process. And the process is void of all logic and common sense. This is your typical Belichick admin assistant FUBAR and SNAFU.

I think it's more common than the author leads on. Wade Phillips & every coordinator until Lovie has done the same here. We played a 3-4... & 4-3 depending on down & distance.
