Florio keeps regurgitating a perspective of this story that seems to ignore some basic conditions of trading him. He's acting like it's just a normal team-to-team trade, but ignores the basic details that make this situation anything but normal:

1. No trade clause
2. Possible CEL suspension
3. Potential prison time
4. Marketing hit of giving away so much capital for a player accused of some very serious allegations

Just the first point alone makes this a very tricky deal for Caserio. It's not like he's got full control of the situation, but Florio keeps blathering on like the ball is in the Texans court.

That...or he and others do not see those four things the same way you do?

First it was NFL would automatically suspend DW.. they have not.
Then it was NFL would put him on CEL if he showed up to TC.. they didn't.
Then it was he would be arrested any minute.. he hasn't been.
Then it was he was going to prison.. has not been indicted.
I know.. courts clogged but high profile claims seem to get much quicker look see. It has been posted that IF he goes to trial {after that 'soon' to be true bill} it will be in 2023 at earliest. That is a lot of games to play.

The Texans have never forced the NFL's hand, which is why I stated "possible". Teams won't know the answer to that riddle until they put the NFL in that position.

No trade clause is what it is. Florio ignores it most of the time and acts like the Texans can trade him wherever they want to trade him.

Potential incarceration is most likely a long shot due to the current justice system. But, teams still have to factor it in their contingency plans.

And there is no doubt that any team that trades for him will have to be working overtime to market a clearly tainted player to their fans, regardless of the outcome of the trials.

I doubt he's traded until the off-season. Florio wants it done soon because it helps his business. That's why we see it differently. I'm a fan and he's a media figure that needs clicks and views.

btw, I e-mailed my message to him and he replied "all true". :ok: He's always been good about replying to most messages.

I hope Tua is part of a package so the Texans can trade him for even more picks. No rule that says you can’t trade a player that you just received. Make it an NBA style 3 team deal!

That would bring the total to 6 fantasyland 1st rd picks for Pervert/Tunsil/Tua.

More damaging that Tua’s contract would be here is your 3 1sts, 2 2nd’s, 2 starters, but you have to pay a majority of Watson’s contract over the next 3 years.

Then we truly lose out because the rookies will benefit from us being a player in FA and getting some established talent in the locker room.

There really is nothing new and nothing Watson's camp feeds anyone changes the facts.

NO GM is trading any significant value for Deshaun Watson prior to his legal issues being resolved as doing so is a good way to get fired.

Some team might give up a 3rd round pick and take on those troubles .... and that might be a risk worth taking but the Texans would be idiots to accept such a pittance.

The Texans would be better off voiding the contract and getting no return in draft capital than taking that kind of deal considering the amount of dead money and the subsequent multi year cap hit.


Jay Glazer is full of crap , the Texans stance hasn't softened , there's no need to "keep an eye on this situation" - Nothing's changed.

Agree. The Texans probably don’t get to move Watson until the off-season. What I’m wondering, does Goodell allow this situation to just roll all the way through the 2021 season? If so, does he really allow the screws to get turned by allowing this situation to fester into the 2022 season where the Texans are going to have to make a big financial decision….pay him or cut him? If they are forced to cut him before his trial and he somehow comes out clean after his trial, he’s an UFA free to sign with any team in the NFL….would I be right on that assessment?

Some on here have mentioned that his day in court may not happen until 2023. If for some reason Hardin and Watson feel that they would be exonerated in a court case…..could that be why he’s holding the cards. 2022 becomes nut-cutting time for the Texans. Watson is possibly setting himself up to keep the money the Texans have already paid him while becoming an UFA in 2023.

If this were the case…..maybe it’s time to unload him and the team lick their wounds. The Texans need to get this Watson situation in their rear view mirror sooner rather than later.

Yes , given the circumstances you lay out , he'd be UFA but that's just not in the cards.

Watson has $156m in guaranteed money , if the Texans cut him , they pay him the balance due and absorb the cap hit. That just aint happening.

The Texans have two choices - best case , he's traded , worst case , they void the contract entirely and Watson is likely repaying that signing bonus money.

Some on here have mentioned that his day in court may not happen until 2023. Now…..how do the Texans legally get to void Watson’s contract before the 2022 payday? Goodell hasn’t stepped in and made an announcement one way or another so the Texans best move would be to announce that Watson will be suited up for every game from WK5 on and will be the starting QB. Blow-back or not the Texans need to force the NFL’s hands and/or Watson’s hand. Goodell could step in immediately and put him on CEL (Not sure I got the acronym right) or Watson refuses to suit up. If Watson refuses to suit up, Texans can sit him without pay for Conduct Detrimental to the Team. When that runs its course, suit him up as the starting QB and if he refuses, sit his arse without pay again. Eventually Goodell knows he’d have to step in and make a decision.

Or they can give the Texans everything they want. Three 1st, Star Player, & a third round pick. The Star player & the third round pick the only things guaranteed & the 1sts conditional on Watson being on the roster at the start of the season. Two firsts in 2022, one in 2023.

Everybody knows more or less what's at stake. They can condition compensation 9 ways from Sunday to protect all parties involved as much as they can... it's really up to the risk everyone is willing to take.

Watson gets indicted before next season & the Texans aren't getting anything for him... maybe they can get their money back.

They can trade him now for a guaranteed 3rd (for example) a player (Xavier Howard) & conditional 1sts.

Unfortunately I do not see any team willing to give much for Tua. It would probably benefit Miami as I posted elsewhere to spread his dead money over 2021 + 22 and another team to pay his base. I would leverage Tua to get more of what I want. Tua replacing DW as our third QB or on PS doesn't trouble me.

I expect to become aware of more teams entering pursuit of Deshaun Watson.

Howard is on a remarkable deal for his stats and age. I would not be opposed to telling him depending on his 2021 season with the Texans I would throw him another 20 million to be prorated
and add another year of non-guaranteed money at an additional 12 million dollars for that year.

If Philly or Miami want to go after Watson…..IMHO, both should just hold onto their QB’s (Hurts and Tua) as backups and they can trade them when it most benefits their teams. Texans have no need for either QB.

Potentially having two teams jumping into the mix would be far better than dealing with a single team. I could be back in on taking Hurts in a package from the Eagles simply b/c he’d have a far better trade value than Tua……who has none.

I agree with you on Eagles but think hurt has higher potential. A trade saves Philly ~ $2m However Tua tag is a different animal as he would clear much more cap space for Miami in a trade. Neither cost Houston much and could bring even more back as trade Leverage.

Offseason is best if the trade is with eagles strictly for draft picks. now is best if trade is with Miami and includes players such as Howard and Waddell. Dolphins round 1 in 2022 is from San Francisco and is projected to be very late as are Miami's 2 round 1s in 2023. So giving them Watson now does not hurt those pics and in my opinion should not come with any risk relief.

People seem to be forgetting there's a no trade clause involved too. Doesn't matter if 20 teams are in the mix if none of them are approved by Watson.

But it will be an informed sucker and that is the difference. Texans in my opinion got stuck with D W without having all the information we have now. A team trading for him now should have investigated and have much more info even if they don't know the final result. If that team is willing to risk that I will gladly take their offer.

Watson could find out that his current situation may not open the flood gates of trade opportunity for the teams he has a desire to play for….but the early answer should be in by 02 Nov 2021.

If nothing happens…..I think Caserio will finally get busy moving his chess pieces. This could be interesting.

Would anyone be surprised if Caserio decides to tell Watson, suit up…you’re the starting QB going forward. Fail to answer the call and we will suspend you without pay for as long as possible. Of course this could go on for as long as you continue your refusal to play…..or you could sit tight in status quo, collect your payday, and then we’ll try to find a suitable trade partner this off-season…..provided you rescind your “No-Trade Clause”. No hard feelings, you did what was best for Watson this year…now the Texans will do what’s best for the team in 2022.

Florio is just waiting to post the Texans are dumbest franchise in league article he wrote 6 months ago. He is just waiting to fill in the trade details and say the Texans could have got a better deal from ----, there is zero objective "reporting" in his handling of a story.
