NFL Random Thought of the Day

The Cowboys have taken another hit. Ty Nsekhe, the Cowboys offensive lineman, was taken to the hospital by ambulance on Thursday due to a heat stroke......not simple heat exhaustion that can be treated with IV fluids alone. Heat stroke is a serious, potentially life-threatening condition. Brings back memories of Korey Stringer, but Nsekhe's treatment was not delayed. Fortunately, it appears that he will fully recover and has a good chance of being back week 3.

CBS didn’t pay for Thursday games
You are correct. Since 2006 when the NFL started showing Thursday Night Football, CBS, NBC and most recently FOX have all taken turns as broadcasters. But with ESPN or the NFL Network, those networks put the games up for bids to the local stations for the right to air them.

Heineke looks like the Redskins QB of the future.

To think he used to be a Texan.

He's a Romo clone. But we'll see...

I'll wait before crowning Heineke. Although he's had limited opportunities. He is 28 and already on his 5th NFL team (Viking, Patriots, Texans, Panthers, WFT). Let's wait until defenses have seen him for more than one game.

LT left tackle Eric Fisher looks to be out there today as the Colts' starter. He hasn't played since rupturing his Achilles take the field for the first time since tearing his Achilles tendon while with the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. First year back after an Achilles rupture is typically a very disappointing performance experience

Whether same Watt fans like it or not, in the NFL, tackling must only entail contact below the shoulders and above the knees.

Looking at the video, there is no doubt that Watt went straight for Cook's the lower leg.................then at the end gave his foot/ankle a nice little outward twist........I have little doubt the this resulted in a high ankle sprain.

Watt grew up a Green Bay fan so it’s understandable that he would play that way against the Vikings.

Yep looked like a dirty play by our former hero.
edit: seemed like JJ was trying to end Cooks career; if that happened to Watt when he was a Texan fans would have been screaming to kick guy who did it out of NFL. I would have.

my manning feed through ATT fiber seems to be 9ish seconds behind ESPN on DirecTV.

[edit] how much of that is dump buffer, how much of that is just bandwidth issues?

It's not the play. The play shown occurred near the end of the 1st half. Cook left and came back that game several times. The play in question occurred in the 4th Q. I just found a good view of the play by someone who agrees with my analysis.

It looks like Watt was already heading to the ground or on the ground when he is trying to make that tackle. I guess I'm confused, is he not supposed to try and tackle him? That sentence you mentioned about tackling below the shoulders and above the knee, I could only find on Wikipedia referring to Australian rules football. I am only aware of the rule against hitting a passer at or below the knee which is roughing the passer in the NFL rulebook.

Thanks. I should have placed the point of emphasis on that unnecessary obvious twist of the ankle at the end of the tackle that Watt decided to perform. That's the maneuver that had people upset, as it is a classic mechanism for high ankle sprain +- fracture.

I still don't see any real forceful twist at the end of that tackle any more so than just grabbing tightly at Cook's feet.

Hey,

I didn’t get to watch on Monday Night, how were the Mannings for this one?
I quite enjoyed it. Sure, a few lulls here and there, but it's still new and pretty raw. Lots of guests this time. Gronk doesn't watch film, apparently he shows up and Brady tells him who to outrun. Pat McAfee must be consuming an entire pharmacy's allotment of adderol, but he's great in the 3rd or 4th quarter when the game can kinda lag. Brett Favre must've been on dialup. those kinda stood out to me.

Even though Hundley is on the PS..........it make more sense to start him over the present inexperienced BU.
Wentz shouldn't even try to play, and I doubt that he will. But if he tries to play, he's crazy.:foottap:

Report: Brett Hundley took majority of starter reps for Colts on Wednesday
Posted by Myles Simmons on September 23, 2021, 9:58 AM EDT

Apparently, the Titans need to prepare for three different quarterbacks.

According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, Colts practice squad QB Brett Hundley took the majority of starter reps in Wednesday’s practice. If starter Carson Wentz is not able to play due to his two sprained ankles, then both Hundley and Jacob Eason could both see time against Tennessee on Sunday.

The Colts have until Saturday to elevate Hundley to their gameday roster. Pelissero reports a final decision on whether or not Wentz plays may not come until Sunday.

Hundley has been with Indianapolis since July 31, when Wentz had to undergo surgery to repair his broken foot. Hundley spent the rest of training camp with the club and signed with the practice squad at the start of the regular season.

Hundley’s experience is reportedly a factor in his potential playing time. A fifth-round pick in 2015, Hundley started nine games for Green Bay in 2017 — albeit with middling results. He completed 61 percent of his passes for 1,836 yards with nine touchdowns and 12 interceptions that season, compiling a 3-6 record as a starter.

While Eason is the team’s backup, he’s inexperienced. That showed last week when he threw an interception to Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey on his second passing attempt last Sunday.
Wentz did not participate in Wednesday’s practice after undergoing aggressive treatment on his ankles. It’s unclear if he’ll be able to participate at all this week, but there is a possibility he plays against Tennessee even without practicing.

I really enjoyed it. I thought it was funny that Favre wasn't even watching the game. Did he even know he was going to be on Manning's show that night? lol

And Gronk trolling Peyton about the record was hilarious, especially calling him out for Tom having a chance to beat it with a TE instead of WR.

McAfee was the smoothest, but likely because he's on the net every day with his own show and understands lag. He's also a fun character in general. I really dig his show.

I really enjoyed it.

it's a better way to watch period. God bless that it's the Manning bros natural chemistry and instant relatability to a wide gamut of NFL fans too.

\\ I just got a horrible vision of a dystopian future where every team has their own "stream team" and the Texans still happen to have the most "corporate-family-friendly quirky" (read: lame) crew.

[I've actually come to enjoy the current radio crew, I just think their banter sounds soulless.]

Taylor Heinicke is a really interesting story. Undrafted free agent in 2015, bounced around the league, went to XFL as a backup not playing a snap in that league. Once league dissolves goes back to school to finish his engineering degree.

Then signs to practice squad of WFT in December 2020 and a month later is starting in their playoff game against the eventual Super Bowl champions.

Now has a chance to become the starter for the rest of the season for WFT with Fitz getting injured game 1. Some similarities to Kurt Warner in this rags to riches story. I’m interested to see how it turns out!

Can someone clarify the rules for offensive linemen lining up. I'm seeing OT's lined up more than a yard off the ball, and it looks like maybe as much as 4' or 4.5'.

And how does this effect the receivers lining up. Can a wide receiver line up on the ball or does he have to line up with the tackle. How about a slot receiver. If the tackle is a yard and a half off the ball, is a slot receiver required to line up two yards off the ball.

Sometimes this Vee shape of the offensive line is really extreme.

Edit: Now I see a play where the ball is on the 10 yd line and the RT is lined up on the 8 yd line and the WR is lined up on the 10 yd line. The TE is on the 7.5 yd line.
