The gangbangers of the NFL has and will continue to disrespect our Flag and National Anthem which destroys the unity of the fans. No matter what the the owners or coaches do the players actions are the stake through the heart.
Just curious, but do you measure everyone/everything that you are entertained by with the same standards?

Because, if so, there's not much left to be entertained by in the entertainment industry.

My own philosophy can easily be summed up in a meme I found a while back:

ClownEntertainment.jpg

This is not a political post, but rather a perspective of how to continue to enjoy an entertainment product when the product decides to represent itself as more than just an entertainment option.

We have placed far too much importance on entertainers in general in our society.

They need to be relegated in importance according to what they really are: proverbial court jesters and circus clowns.

I’m surprised anyone can still write blank checks payable to Two NRG Park given the perpetual incompetence on display this off season in particular. Not to mention having our collective hearts ripped away by former Oilers owner Bud Adams. I really can’t believe that I’d say this seems worse :hankpalm:

I know there is still a thread of hope and community of fans I support and hope for a miracle to turn things around Kirby Street, too many brilliant, successful and hardworking people here not to eventually get it right, just probably not in some of our lifetimes.

Was just reviewing this outstanding Athletic article by Dane Brugler recapping the 2018 NFL Draft. Of course this was first year Texans had to pay up first round pick used to trade for Deshaun Watson in 2017 and their second-round pick to unload the Brock Osweiler contract. Best player, 3rd rd pick Justin Reed, still with the team but still playing on his rookie contract without extension this point. Overall graded out 29th in league, you could argue but who had worse draft classes were the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots. Chew on that for a moment.

Debt paid, or so we thought, from there we saw a bright young franchise QB rounding into elite company with arguably the best WR in the NFL. A lot since was acquired to protect said franchise QB, too much in fact, that it precipitated a number of questionable trades and lackluster acquisitions that haven’t panned out. Then the whole Watson trade me, not pay me Rick, saga which we all know how that perturbed ownership followed by Watson Message Gate. Nullifying any possible draft day deal/trade with no trade able resolution in sight.

Im not even going to get into the GM and Coaching changes. Not enough juice. Just saying, find another franchise QB, with a real elite young head coach, who assemble a top notch staff, can implement both on or off the field and you can once again enjoy the game, embrace the philosophy, feel the swagger but still know it’s just a business and everything can change on a moments notice.

So I’m saying for your own sanity it’s ok to still be a Texan and have hope, just live to fight another day and get with a second option to feel excited and joyous again, we all deserve as much.
Great synopsis. I go to games because my wife enjoys it and I've made close friends with great people who've sat around us for yrs. Plus we have a great group of people we tailgate with. (Including one of your fellow Ducks.)

As far as the team goes, as soon as they find a franchise QB (Hopefully Mills) things will get better. It's going to be a rough 2-3 yrs as Mills learns or they draft another QB. Unfortunately I dont think Culley/Company survive. Then hopefully the type of HC you're describing will be hired. Culley's future with the Texans will be directly related to the development of Mills or whatever QB they pick at the top of the draft next yr.

This is a great post of the realities and potentials trajectory of the team. I don’t know why more people don’t understand it.

From their first contest against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football at what was then Reliant Stadium nineteen (19) years ago, your Houston Texans have proudly proclaimed that they have sold out every home game. It didn’t matter whether the team was good; year after year, Houston fans showed up to watch the Texans play. It appears that will change this season.

Back in early March—after Deshaun Watson requested a trade but before reports of the sexual assault allegations against him became public—I wondered how the vaunted wait list for Texans season tickets would be impacted by what was shaping up to be far and away the worst offseason in franchise history.

Assuming the cap increases in 22 it's a smaller percentage of overall cap space vs this year. In general, I agree with your thesis and don't like it as a common practice ,but I think some contracts are so bad a team should kick the can down the road.

I don't agree that it puts us behind other teams in free agency next year because damn near every other team is doing the same thing and has the same obstacles.
Regardless the amount of the salary cap when other teams have a lot more money to spend than you do, particularly those teams in your division, it puts you at a disadvantage.

Another reason why salary cap isn’t much of an issue any more, voidable years... $120 million worth of funny money:

Field Yates @FieldYates
In restructuring the contract of CB Marshon Lattimore, the Saints added four voidable years "worth" $120M. Those numbers may sound crazy, but there's a reason behind them. Smart business by their cap guru Khai Harley.

When a team adds void years to a deal, the primary motivation is create cap space for the current league year. While there is no scenario in which a player plays on the void years, the salaries of the void years are important.

There is language within the CBA (Article 13, section 8 (a) (i)) that states: “The contract for a veteran player may not be renegotiated during the original terms of the contract for a period of 12 months after a players most recent renegotiation."

Put differently, if you renegotiate a player's contract twice in less than a year, that player cannot earn a raise on his salary, even if the first renegotiation includes void years.

This is especially important for a player Marshon Lattimore because he is a prime candidate or an extension before he hits free agency next March (9 months from now).

Had the Saints, for example, added four voidable years for a total of $20M, that would cop how much they are able to offer Lattimore in an extension accordngly. Lattimore - one of the top young corners in the NFL - will likely earn a new deal near the top of the market (closer to $20M annually).

In "extendng" Lattimore or four years and $120 (a $30M per year deal, $9M more than the top CB contract in the NFL right now), the Saints have not hindered their ability to eventually extend Lattimore. The Saints did the same with Taysom Hill and Terron Armstead in restructuring their deals earlier this offseason.

The Saints are intent and have made it priority to resign Lattimore, this is the key. However if for some reason they do not, regardless of all the fancy jargon they would still be on the hook for $7.4MM in dead money in 2022. The reason the Saints are in this position of restructuring to begin with is because they have been one of the more poorly managed salary cap teams in the NFL. I'm not sure the use of the term Guru is apropos.

Is it just me.....that thinks Culley and his staff might be exactly what was needed for the Texans? Culley’s age may catch up with him before the idea of firing him due to failure. I’ve liked the approach since his arrival.

I put my name on the much heralded season ticket waiting list back in March just to see what would happen.

The Texans called within 48 hours and had PSLs available.

I told them that I was no longer interested and to please remove my details from the list.

They have called me 3 times since then.

They are desperate, and Houston's historical apathy about mediocrity has revealed itself.

I think we will see our first NFL blackouts since the '90's this year.

And the Texans just keep digging that hole deeper. Customers have collectively turned their backs on the product, and there's nothing the McNairs can do about it.

Maybe I heard it wrong. It’s supposed to be a “flatter” organization, not “flatline”, right?

I wish I was in a place where I could buy another PSL. Due to personal problems I messed up & lost mine.

NFL is good business. You can usually make your season ticket money back by selling the tickets to traveling fans. I'd break even on Cardinal fans & the like, but kill on Patriots, Steelers, & those winning teams.

I would think now is the time to buy, when they're desperate to sell.

You’d think that. But it only works if a Pittsburgh, Green Bay, some team like that that has a strong road following, comes to town. And very few of those are on the schedule each year.

The last couple of seasons I had tickets (18 & 19), I could sell Patriots, Cowboys for a nice profit, but you couldn’t give the tickets away for the other games.

Tell Denver we will take two 1sts and two 2nds and it’s done.

At least that is what I would take at this point.
No idea how this is going to play out, but if anything were to happen before the legal issues are resolved, I think it would have to include conditional picks based on how things go on the legal front. Not sure if you can void the entire trade if let's say he has to spend time in prison, but you can definitely include conditional picks based on his game availability.

Everybody would.

I'll be really surprised if Caserio gets that much for the Pervert. What I'll find interesting is what the reaction on this MB will be when he's traded for much less.

I'm not very eager for that deal but if it was sweetened with players that I want perhaps. Also I would want to know that I could trade our own 1.1 to Philly for their three picks. Just to clarify Denver's first and second round in 2022 should be very late in the draft. Same in 2023.

Or like I am betting on, a desperate team will want to take a risk that DW will miss no more than the 2021 season. Keep in mind if he does not play he does not get paid. There is no salary hit for an acquiring team.

I donated 3-4 games of tickets each of 2018-2019. I did not buy in Covid year, and cancelled tickets/PSLs this year. I could not sell tickets at any reasonable price, and PSLs for even 1/3 of what I paid for so gave them to people less fortunate. Texans have not been a big draw for years

There are too many risks associated with Watson that I think it is more likely we get nothing instead of something. If he doesn’t write checks to settle all this he is going to be in court for a long time. Will he get to play in the NFL while on trial for these serious crimes against women? I would not rather worry about it and cut bait.

Seeing how Caserio will pay twice the trade value to move up in the the draft, I expect Nick will take half the trade value for DW4.

I have a question arising out of commentary on 610 yesterday.

The talk was, Mercilus has nothing to gain by playing at his best. His salary is guaranteed and this will be his last year with the Texans. And in fact, if he plays too aggressively and gets hurt, this could impact his next contract with another team. So he has everything to gain by dogging it. He should play only hard enough not to get injured.

The argument made against this is his professional pride.

Let's say someone like Grennard, who has everything to gain by playing all out, starts over Mercilus.

If Mercilus doesn't start, actually doesn't play all that much, how much would that impact his next contract negotiations. Can Mercilus still get his last big payday by dogging it this year?

I've been thinking that Mercilus, playing in Lovie's Tampa 2, has one big season left in him for the Texans. The talk on 610 yesterday has me questioning this.

Disagree. If Mercilus wants to get paid on his next contract with a new team he will play his best to prove it.

Mercilus signed his contract on December 28, 2019. He still have 2 years left on that contract with a cap hit of 7.5 million in 22 and 3.5 cap hit in 23. He’s 30 so he will have to ball out if he wants another big contract extension from any team.

He’s a professional and i am sure he won’t dog it. if You dog it not to get injured then how does looking like an uninjured dog get you that last big contract. I think he’s headed to the one year contract world if he doesn’t retire.

Friends don't let friends 610.

Actually proven in a NIH/CDC study, a subject's IQ drops 1%* for every day 610 was pumped into their ears.

*If the subject identified himself as "a loophole" or similar, the IQ was already unmeasurable
I saw a similar study but it showed that a persons penis would shrink by 1 inch every day they would listen to 610.

Some of you only have three days to listen.
