Cooks & Tunsil for sure and Lindsay & Howard on a few NFL teams maybe. Do kickers really count ? OK ours could start for several different teams. Why didn't you list the defensive platoon ?

DJ31 also averaged 4.7 ypa. I like our RB stable but could see us adding a young RB as undrafted FA. It depends as much on OL as RB.
Does anyone actually know anything about Scottie Phillips?
I am concerned that Scottie Phillips will get lost in the shuffle of all the new backs at a heavy position. I still think he has the skill set to be a good player. In my opinion David Johnson will take snaps away from other players. I am not opposed to David Johnson just his contract.

Please explain why a Press man cover CB cannot work in cover two? If the wide receiver is taken out of the game that works for me.
I didn’t say they couldn’t work. But unless that CB is an elite prospect/talent, it’s more likely that player is a mismatch for that in scheme....especially if the zone scheme calls for more off zone coverage than press zone.

contrast that with a cb whose an avg talent but thrives in a zone scheme, press or man. You could probably get better results with that player b/c that’s his wheel house vs hoping the Uber talented press man v man cb can make the transition..plus the average talented cb is more plentiful. The Uber talent is a top of the 1st round prospect that you might have trouble coming by.

Case and point Richard Sherman was a 5th round average (some would say not even average) talent/prospect who thrived in a zone scheme...& it showed in Seattle’s zone cover 2 scheme he was a boundary cb and rose to be a DPOY and HOFer. Nmandi Asomugha on the other hand was a 1st round talent who looked great in Oakland’s press man v man scheme. Then he left that scheme, went to Philly who asked him to play more off-zone than he had traditionally played and he was still pretty good, but wasn’t nearly the shut down guy they paid him like. Philly released him after 2 years.

I really like Scottie Phillips, I hope he gets a shot. I think he could be really good.

Such a short list.
And debatable in many cases.

Cooks, for instance, came to the Rams as the no. 2 in 2018.

He lost that spot to a third rounder , Cooper Kupp.

Robert Woods, the no. 1, saw 139 targets in 16 starts.
Cooper Kupp saw 134 targets in 14 starts (16 games played)
Cooks saw a mere 72 targets in 14 starts (he missed 2 games).

In classic TT form, instead of creating your own list, you argue mine. Fine... conversation is good.

Remember we're arguing who can start for other teams. Going to the Rams as a #2... is not an argument against as the #2 receiver is a starter on 32 out of 32 teams.

As far as losing the starting role to Cooper Kup, that is a good argument. However if you look at all the Rams WR ypc we see the number shrink. Maybe the Rams have transitioned to a short game Cooks simply didn't fit. First season here he breaks off another 1,000 yard season.

So yes, you are correct. If the question was can Cooks start for all 32 teams in the NFL, the answer is no. But if the question is can Cooks start for another team (which if you're more interested in answering the question & not tearing at my opinions, you'd see that was the question) then you're wrong as Cooks certainly would.

So you put something out there and you don't want feedback? And 2 others responded to your list but you only bust the balls of 76? Classic TT form.

1000 yd Wr's tend to start for most teams.

Deshaun Watson (he's still the Texans starting quarterback until he's officially suspended, traded or holding out) would be at the top of my list of Texans starters that could start for *most* other teams. Then...

Tunsil
Cooks
Cunningham
Roby
Justin Reid

It was by no accident that the Texans only won 4 games last season and utterly embarrassed the year before by KC, Baltimore and Denver.

There are probably a handful of other guys that could compete and possibly win a starting job with teams like the Jets and Jaguars. But why bother listing them?

Could start for several other teams. Not all but quite a few.
Yep,

I find it hilarious that some think Cooks couldn't start for the majority of teams. Heck, Cobb could play in the slot for the majority of teams.

Rob Peter to pay Paul. Great strategy huh. The defense suffered even more and was the main reason why we lost several close games.
I dont agree with his strategy but the strategy was

See if DW4 could play and give him every chance to succeed.

Then rebuild the defense through the draft within 2 yrs. The problem with this philosophy is that BOB couldn't identify and develop drafted players.

When I read "could start" for another team, I automatically take it to be "an average" team or at least a 2nd tier team (20-21 of them in the league.)
Starting for a bad team means little to nothing.
Secondly, it has to match the pay.
Cooks was paid no. 1 money (13th highest on a per year basis at $16M).
The Texans did get the benefit of not having to pay the bonus money such that his per year dollar is now just over $13M - 20th highest.
The fact remains that if you take a survey of football people, they'll have more than 20 receivers they would take before they touch Cooks as the no. 1 option.
At least 3 good teams (Saints, Pats, and Rams) were willing to trade him away.
That is a sure sign they did not think of him as a true playmaker at the no. 1 spot.
Numbers alone don't make a no. 1 receiver.
A healthy no. 1 receiver simply cannot be overshadowed by the no. 3; no matter how you slice it.

I feel come November we're going to be talking about how weak our schedule is & biting each other's heads off because beating bad teams doesn't mean the Texans are a good team.
A bad team beating bad teams doesn't make us better nor get us better in draft..
Sigh
That is why I have been so hopeful about trading Watson for High Selections in 2021 and 2022. Moving Watson, tunsil, Roby and Cobb's contracts by 22 will give us breathing room.

"Could start" doesn't necessarily mean the no. 1

Just moving DW4's contract will give you plenty of room in 2022.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like that's going to happen until next off-season.
