Sexual Assault Suits Against Watson

That study/analysis posted by CloakNNNdagger at #2234 (DeShawn Watson's massage therapy allegations spotlight a misunderstood industry, by Morgan E. Richard) I found to be insightful. It's interesting how closely my posts #2,019 and #2,071 makes the same points. This is particularly applicable to the concluding paragraph :
... Massage therapy colleges might consider implementing sexual education for professionals and sexual harassment training in coordination with local sexual prevention centers to better prepare massage therapists to respond to these incidents. As a starting point, massage clinics could post their zero-tolerance policies for sexual harassment in their reception areas and treatment rooms ... (but) it is the clients who must be held responsible for their actions.
But I got three dislikes for delving into this subject matter and making these points. Probably knee-jerk reactions with no serious thought put into the point I was advancing. But a professional's opinion, that's different.

What was unexpected was a finding that "most incidents occurred in clinics with multiple registered massage therapists as opposed to a solo practice".

I appreciate having this study posted.

I think the Players Union needs to pay for professional trainers to hold classes on how not to get sued. Players receive a pictured Pass Port to massage therapists like the Covid Vaccination Visa.
don't grad the goodies -- don't talk gangbanger-- don't show or play with your weapon

I was talking to my boss yesterday about Watson. Told him that since he started the whole trade demand I'm not playing for the Texans crap, I was done with him. Now, I'm really done with him. So Watson's camp came out when this started and said all of these women are lying, nothing ever happened. Now, they're saying It was consensual sex. The whole thing doesn't add up. Why was Watson reaching out to women on instagram, who aren't masseuses, for a massage?

maybe I’m missing something and it’s already been clarified, but I just can’t get past this consensual sex claim. Is he stating that he paid for the regular massage and had consensual sex on the side? obviously Money was exchanged during the contact, not dinner and a movie. what am I missing?

Had a discussion with a friend of mine about the Watson situation. We came up with a very poignant question. Where are the women's advocate/activist groups??? NOW? METOO? Where are any of them? :thinking:idonno::cricket::cricket:

I think we should find out who's guilty of what first. Is Watson a scumbag horndog who deserves his lumps, or is Buzzby a shyster out to do damage for his own purposes? Do we know which it is yet? I think a lot of folks are tired of all the smoke and want to see either some fire or the clean air behind the smoke before jumping into the deep end.

We still don't know all that much. Just a lot of talk, rumors, and some lawsuits filed that haven't gone to court yet.

Thanks for posting this.

As someone who's had to rely on massage therapy to manage back discomfort for 20 years, I've befriended many female therapists and come to understand their boundaries, sensitivities, and etiquette. Here are some points everyone should know about the industry:

- Legit practitioners insist on being called massage therapists. Not masseuse or masseurs. They are formally trained, certified, and consider themselves health care professionals. That means you should always assume they have the same boundaries as any other healthcare professional.

- They deal with a lot of crap from dudes who don't understand the boundary aspect of the therapist/client relationship. This is why they can sometimes be nervous around new clients who are male.

- Sex work in the industry is real and it's everywhere. The legit therapists hate this because it's the main reason dudes get confused about boundaries. The confusion is compounded when a small percentage of legit therapists post ads emphasizing their attractiveness or they post on sites frequented by sex workers. It gives men the impression that the line is blurred across the industry. Maybe in some cases, but not for the vast majority, so men shouldn't assume.

My recommendation: If you're unsure what type of service is offered, don't hire her. She should have made it clear in her ad. There's nothing wrong with choosing a therapist because she's attractive, but that doesn't change anything about her professionalism.

I agree with everything you said. But, I think that @CloakNNNdagger is questioning why many who usually don't wait to reach judgement, suddenly, are waiting to reach judgement.

He’s saying he’s got it like that. It’s like going to a diner eating lunch, then asking your waitress what time she gets off work. Then hooking (no pun intended) up later & letting nature take it’s course.

However, many of the accusers are saying he didn’t pay full price, which I think should be easy to prove, meaning both parties were not satisfied with what did take place

I generally prefer male massage therapists because they can put more force on it without having to use as much of their body weight. Only time I ever got hurt in a massage was because the woman was to light to really reach the muscle for a deep massage so she was basically putting all her weight on me then slipped. On the plus side I got free massages for the next 6 months.

I still say if all this was on the up and up then for a sports massage Watson could use the Texan therapists. Even if he was looking for a happy ending then either have your girlfriend learn some techniques or find ONE that is ok with it and stick with her.

The biggest thing I find damning about this is the sheer number and before people say that the number of women is why they don’t believe it to be true ask yourself why isn’t the defense disputing that he ever had contact with some of them? The fact they aren’t means that at the very least we know Watson did go to at least meet this many women which is a red flag by itself.

In addition to being a performance trainer I am also a licensed massage therapist and I have had massage work performed on me for 30 yrs. I have no idea what’s transpired with Watson, and quite frankly I don’t really care as I feel his time with the Texans is/was coming to an end. I do have several thoughts on some of the reports and some of the points others have made

1) To me, the number of therapists he’s seen isn’t surprising. Something to understand, just because someone lists themselves as providing “sports massage” or “deep tissue“ doesn’t mean they’re any good or necessarily know what they’re doing. This can be incredibly frustrating when you’re looking for a specific type of work. I‘ll give two examples. One, more times than I can remember I’ve asked a therapist to focus on a specific area, and in a 60 min massage they’ll spend maybe 5-10 mins on that requested area. I usually spend the rest of the time sitting there pissed off and I’ll never return to that person. This will often lead me to seek out another MT as I didn’t get the work done I needed. Two, and this happens waaay more than you‘d think, there are massage therapist that literally don’t know what they’re doing. There’s A LOT more to deep tissue massage than just mashing as hard as you can on a client, and if you’ve never experienced working with someone that really knows what they’re doing you wouldn’t understand. I’ve been worked on by close to 100 different MTs in my 30 yrs of receiving massage, and I would say 10% are REALLY good therapists, there’s another 30% that are pretty good and the rest are mediocre to poor. In massage school you acquire VERY basic knowledge. In my experience the ones that are really good have spent years and thousands of dollars on continuing education.

2) I’ve seen a lot of people on here talk disparagingly about Watson finding his massage therapist on IG. Apparently that’s become a legitimate thing, especially with younger folks. Initially I thought using IG was weird myself but I’m a little older and rarely use social media. After speaking with some younger colleagues, alot of younger people do advertise on social media. It’s much cheaper than paying for a website and much easier than building one yourself.

Again, I don’t know what happened with Watson. I’m trying to keep an opened mind until more facts emerge. The one thing that bothers me a bit is why didn’t the therapist terminate the session immediately if he acted inappropriately? If I were working on someone and they pulled anything weird I’m stopping immediately and walking out. If they tried anything weird I’d call 911. I would think that would put a stop to any weirdness immediately as the last thing a celebrity would want is the news getting out that the cops were called during a massage session due to inappropriate behavior

that’s where I get stuck. In the diner you can say he contracted for a swap of cash for food. The date wasn’t a contract for Service. In his house the massage-sex was performed for money and was a continuum act. What separates the two acts? Words? You make a good point regarding the partial price because if both parties weren’t satisfied that implies she wasn’t satisfied for her Payment for the massage only meaning the sex could not have been consensual. Otherwise she would admit to being a prostitute. i wonder what Hardin has up his sleeve? posing prostitution vs sexual assault?

On a less sensationalistic, more pragmatic note - in March of 2020 with COVID-19 at its scariest and the entire world sheltering in place to avoid the spread of a disease that for the most part we didn't understand how deadly it was or have a good grasp on how transmittable it was... at that time Watson was 1) trolling Instagram for massages from complete strangers; 2) spending extended periods of time in close quarters with these women (potential viral load); 3) taking whatever he might have exposed himself to back to teammates and friends/family/employees and by extension their friends/family/employees; 4) exposing himself as the franchise QB to a potentially damaging or deadly disease.

Think how strong the compulsion must be to not only put yourself in grave danger but also those closest to you? We didn't know squat about COVID in March/April/May/June/June when he had those earlier appointments per the lawsuits. As a matter of fact, his lawsuits account for every single COVID month from the beginning in March 2020 to January 2021, skipping only February 2021 (not including the 4 latest suits) but including this month we're still in right now. Earlier this very month, after the alleged extorsion attempts and after his agent/attorney had had multiple contacts with plaintiffs attorney Buzbee... he was powerless to stop himself from doing it again. What word best describes this type of behavior?

Making sense of Deshaun Watson lawsuits and what comes next for Texans QB

Tom Schad, USA TODAY

It started off as one lawsuit, filed late on a Tuesday night, alleging that Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson had purposely touched a female massage therapist with his genitals during a massage session nearly one year earlier.

One week later, there were 16 lawsuits – all of them alleging sexual misconduct by Watson during separate massage sessions, on separate dates, in seemingly distinct locations. Two of the lawsuits also include claims of sexual assault.

And the civil complaints, legal experts say, are now just part of the equation.

"I think that Deshaun Watson’s in a bit of trouble here," said Meredith Duncan, a professor at the University of Houston Law Center. "This isn’t going to go away any time soon for him, and I certainly don’t think that there’s 'nothing there' just because criminal charges haven’t been filed."

Exactly. And a lot of folks keep asking where are the criminal charges. They may not come. But, knowing firsthand they sometimes take months to file

Those “lots of folks” keep asking about criminal charges, because Buzbee has stated that he has submitted evidence to the police, and the police are saying that he hasn’t.

DW4 has continued RS legacy.

I tried to download a much bigger group of youngster partying last March during Spring Break but it was too big of a file for this board. I could have downloaded it to my computer, resized it, etc..., but...

Most of us remember the uproar by MSM over young people engaging in social gatherings during the onset (scariest period) of the pandemic. Young people didn't believe COVID was a big deal then and a lot of them don't believe it now. As evidenced by Spring Break 2021.

I'm not denying that Watson may have a sex problem (maybe criminally so), just pointing out that it isn't unusual for 24 year old men to take risks for sex.

I've personally been trying to stay out of this whole thing. But here we are.

This is a great post.

When I was in my mid to late 30's, I started dabbling in powerlifting and with all the times I hurt my back, my rotator cuffs, my knees, I started using several massage therapists. I moved around a lot so in every new place, I'd try out a few until I found one I liked. I would generally reach out through referrals from chiropractors or friends. This was pre-IG.

Some weren't good. Some were OK. Some were great. Some were great with specific issues. Most were women, but I have also had male massage therapists.

Although I've normally been nude while being worked on, I've never been uncovered. They've all been very good at draping the sheets or towels. There have been times when I've gotten hard-ons, and they've all dealt with that by simply ignoring it and working around it... even though I was personally mortified on those instances. They've seen that stuff before and they're not delicate snowflakes freaking out about it. But there was never ejaculate involved in any of these sessions.

What bothers me about what I've heard so far about these cases are the ones where they told him they weren't experienced and he didn't care. If you're hurting and you're trying to recover/rehab something, you don't want someone who doesn't know what they're doing.

At this point, I'm trying to keep an open mind and wait until more facts come in and are substantiated in some way. But I've got a bad feeling.

All the while DW4 had a drop dead gorgeous beautiful girlfriend and still felt compelled to seduce dozens of unknown massage therapists. DW4 suffers from some type of SUPERIORITY COMPLEX. That would explain why he thought he had power over massage therapist and why he thought he was to good for the Texans. Or as us rednecks from the south like to say, he got a little bit to big for britches.

Do your customers ask for the “happy ending” or is it just understood? & if you don’t talk about it how does the customer know how much money to leave?

Asking for a friend.

That and the fact that his defense has admitted to and already said the sex was “consensual” LOL

Is the NFL groupie scene really so bad that Watson had to stalk the Gram?

When I worked with bands, even has-beens were taking home Bud Light Girls and promo models in multiples.

I wonder if COVID lockdown really hit him hard. No clubbing or bar scenes open.

Wait - he couldn’t get a Swedish deep tissue massage at the bar or clubs.

Hmmm.

This is a pointless post. Not everyone feels about COVID like you do. Plenty of people carried on with life. As a Dr, you obviously have a different view, but going down this rabbit hole is pointless.

Whatever you might choose to think, this has nothing to do with my personal feelings re. COVID. I guess Watson was above living under the same safety precautions that his fellow NFL comrades were expected to. I see.

If you need the therapist to go deep, try ashiatsu. Search reviews for an experienced one. Some of these women are amazingly dexterous with the heels of their feet. I had one who weighed about 120 but felt like 280.

One thing about Watson and his happy endings -- if that's what he really wanted, there are tons of websites and ads for those. Trying to coerce a legit practitioner -- aside from being douchey -- was just stupid.

I think it's clearly just a misunderstanding and nothing more.

The Texans took it upon themselves to try and copy the Patriots.

The man was just trying to have deflated balls, it's the Patriots way.

That is why he was upset when they brought in NC. He was hoping they would get away from the Patriots way and he could get some rest.

The man just misunderstood the context of "deflate gate".

O/T Burts has been a favorite for a long time and I’m trying to desire to go and purchase a crown roast, and perhaps their beef tips and rice for old times sake.
You better hurry up because they’re about to close it down for good. I might hit it up tomorrow and purchase me some beef tips , gumbo and probably some stuffed pork chops . The corn bread is a given. Lol

O/T. Based on these comments, yesterday, I tried Burt's for the first time. Awesome beef tips and rice. With only three days left before they close, probably will be my first and last time. Any other Houston area recommendations that are similar quality and menu as Burt's?

Plenty of other athletes and non-athletes carried on with life as normal.
Plenty of people are just plain stupid.
It's alarming that Watson carried on like this in a COVID environment. However, from cynical politicians to pimple face spring breakers were being stupid and carried on with life as normal. No person or group has a monopoly on stupidity.

You cant use the S-Word in relation to DW4 around these parts.

You will be excoriated like I was/am.

O/T. Based on these comments, yesterday, I tried Burt's for the first time. Awesome beef tips and rice. With only three days left before they close, probably will be my first and last time. Any other Houston area recommendations that are similar quality and menu as Burt's?

It's been yrs since I've been there, but Roy's Diner off of Homestead has really good soul food. Place is really clean too.

It's alarming that Watson carried on like this in a COVID environment. However, from cynical politicians to pimple face spring breakers were being stupid and carried on with life as normal. No person or group has a monopoly on stupidity.

I expect better from a CEO of on field production in a billion $$$$$ industry.

How many were under NFL team COVID safety restrictions?
My point was, a lot of young people, like Watson, sometimes lack the wisdom and maturity to keep themselves safe. Of all the things Watson's been alleged to have done, breaking some NFL COVID restrictions is pretty innocuous stuff all things considered. And as far as we know, he never contracted the virus and spread it. Had he, the Texans might have had to forfeit some 2020 games, oh no!

I just hope he either settles this soon or the story takes a M Night Shyamalan twist nobody saw coming so we can get on to trading him. Because it sounds like, even through all this controversy, he and the Texans still aren't talking.

And let's understand that his mother is a survivor of stage V tongue advanced cancer with relatively poor long-term prognosis............putting her immunologically in the increased COVID-19 risk pool.
