What is Watson's value in a trade?

True. But, what is the fun in waiting when you can start gathering slings and arrows to build a narrative you can copy and paste for the next 2-4 years?

What narrative is that?

I said I'm giving him 2 yrs

And I'm going to sell my tickets/keep my PSL's so I dont lose as much $$$$. I'm not giving Cuck and crew any more gear/concessions $$$$.

2 first round picks and no interest?

Plus we have a QB who is either going to be good or not. And draft a QB in the same boat. In 2yrs one or both are good and then you trade or dump the other. With the 2nd first round pick you get a top edge rusher to take JJs spot. And STILL have our current picks.

Thats a nice deal.

And fast question, what if Tua is better than Watson 2-3yrs from now? Or the rookie?

A box safety and an olineman have each gone for 2 first round picks in the last two years.

We're talking about a top 5 QB.

It may be what will be settled on but in my opinion it's nowhere near enough. Long way until the draft.

Ask everyone for 5 firsts. Settle for 3 firsts and more or you don’t trade him. Add a 2nd if the 2021 pick isn’t top 10. Simple as that. Let him sit if he balks. He will eventually play for that kind of $.

Of course this means the Texans will trade him for 2 firsts (with 2021 not being top 10) 2 4ths, and another inferior starting QB that still has a $20M+ salary but hey “we have our new QB figured out and he is cheaper and got more picks to play with”.

Think SF: Garapolollo (2 years and about $26M per left), 2021 first (#12), their 2022 #1 (likely in 20s with their talent, front office, and Watson), a couple lower round picks (4ths). Yep seems very Texans getting owned by a superior front office. SF goes 11-5 and promptly gets back to playoffs. We go 5-11. Yep.

In the end only one first will be a “great starter” (non QB), neither 4th will pan out, garopolo and his cap hit won’t be the answer (although we probably extend him to justify the trade and shell out $100M to him over 4 years before we move on), and we will lose a top 5-10 franchise QB that we have never had. Texans.

Another reason I like the Jets as a trade partner is even with DeShaun Watson they will probably be a top five draft in 2022. Let yo imagination run wild! I certainly am. this has been more fun for me than the entire season was.
The reason I like the Jets 4 1st RD picks is that gives the Texans 5 1st RD picks in 2 years. More importantly they can parlay the 3 1st rd picks in 2022 into a couple of more 1st and 2nd rd picks in coming years. This is how Patriots and Jimmy Johnson built their dynasties. Now this is some serious GM long term think something I don't think the Kirby Clown room is capable of. Many failed GMs can only think about 2 years at a time. A 4 year plan confuses many of them.

Getting at minimum 1.2 and 1.23 plus both round twos, I want Jets round one theirs and Seattle's and round two 2022.

In that draft I select CB Derek Stingley a shutdown guy in 2020 with Jets round one and then with ours I take WR Justin Ross whom I nickname "sticky".

Stingley replaces Roby and Ross replaces Randall Cobb saving close to $20 m. With the round twos I'm taking the best free safety and middle linebacker to replace Reid and McKinney. With the Seattle pic that the Jets have in round one in 2022 I probably go with best player available which might be pass rusher.

Ah cha cha!

Yes. Not sure about trade downs in 22 as we still will have priority needs but with three round one we should be able to make some good moves.
As you said five round ones in 2 years and two round two this draft and our own in 2022 gives us three so 8 pics in the first two Rounds.

I want Jets (2) 1st RD picks in 2021 and (2) 1st RD picks in 2022 and whatever else we can get. That said I'm not convinced they will trade for Watson. They may be content to stay and draft Zach Wilson.

2 years for the new coach? If so You know those two years are rebuilding years right, my expectation for the next year or so is quite low

Thanks for updating me as I rarely check. When I do it's usually to tease those in front of me. When I first saw that I thought what the heck is he talking about? And then I thought somebody changed my username to tease me.

Yep, that's why I said 2 yrs.

The offense has most of the pieces in place and with DW4 getting his choice of HC he should be playing at a GOAT level in a couple of yrs. He already is according to some. So that gives the new regime 2 yrs before the cap killing contract sets in and there will be no championships once that happens.

Goat level is a bit much, top 5 is good enough for me.

Regarding the cap killing contract coming up? Whats your thoughts on the bills/ravens chances of a championship since Jackson and Allen are expected to become the highest paid qb

it could mean anything but as I am unaware of any political or girlfriend thingy I'm going with his unhappiness with the Texans front office. Why can he not just say what he means?
exactly. This is BS. Won’t return calls and talk but will do this cryptic **** knowing it’s drawing negative attention to the team. I was hoping it wasn’t true but he obviously wants out. Oh well check ya later you traitor

The SI story was incorrect.

The Hopkins trade was a story of 2 mommas.

Someone just needs to come out and say it how it happened .... Can't believe we're almost a year off and still the truth hasn't been told..

Truth It's all about the clicks

The truth would generate so many clicks the counter would break.

If this is a reference to Janice and Watson' mom, maybe the best people to handle this mess would be...2 mommas.

They already did enough damage.

I get why Deshaun Watson hasn't squashed the media circus that has gathered around he and the Texans. What I don't understand is why haven't the Texans, through Cal or Caserio, announced they have no intentions on trading Watson? They can't be actually thinking about it, can they?

I'm fine with Watson holding out the entire 2021 season if it comes down to that. The Texans can not bow down to this kind of pressure when they hold all leverage.

There have been several tweets to that end - The Texans are Not trading Watson.

The media just keeps talking about it because it generates views / clicks.

Stop taking the bait!

I hope it doesn't come to that, cause I'm warming upto the idea of dabol as coach with watson still in the team. Originally I was in favor of Joe brady, but the situation the Texans are in right now will probably be too much for him

I liked the idea of Brady until I researched that offense .... its too Ob'esque to me.

Daboll has made Allen look like a real QB .... I don't believe he's half the QB Watson is. I need to do more research on that scheme ..... but what I have seen appears very balanced.

Opinions on this trade scenario?

Yeah I was really warming up to daboll, but someone posted a link/tweet that he really wanted to be the chargers HC.

Whats your thoughts on EB as coach if it comes to that?

"Colored Coach" ? Now there's a blast from the past, haven't heard that term for some time.
I won't imply anything but rather I'll be perfectly explicit:
The Houston Texans will have an African American HC this Fall if Deshawn Watson is also on the Texans roster.

And if having a black coach is the only reason that Deshaun Watson is here then we have to seriously consider his commitment to the team and the sport, or at least wonder what his priorities are.

I mean that's a really ridiculous reason for someone to be placated. That's like, blatant racism. A player who bases his decisions and emotions on something like that is not particularly likable at all no matter how good he is. That's pretty bad and I'm hoping that's not the case.

I think it has more to do with the fact that he’s involved with the best offense in the NFL, he’s widely regarded as a top HC candidate throughout NFL circles, and he’s not part of the Patriots culture. I was leery of EB at first but Ron Hughly, who’s from the KC area and has covered the team for years, described him as an offensive version of Mike Tomlin. Based on his credentials I think DW would be happy with him regardless of his skin color. DW has also praised Eberflus, and he wanted the Texans to interview Saleh as well.

I would hope so. Just addressing what ID said in his post.

I am not happy with DW4's antics lately, but I don't think he is acting out because he demand's a black coach. I think it is more likely that he made suggestions on who the Texans should interview and when they dropped the ball on even speaking with Bieniemy (a candidate that is involved in the KC high powered offense), in Watson's mind it they did so because of his skin color. Whether or not that is true, those are the optics of it.

Same as DW4,

The number may rise some, only because the cap is going to go down, but with DW4 eating up approximately 20% of the cap there will be no championships. Maybe Rodgers beats the 26 yr trend this yr but that would be an anomaly. Notice how the other 3 QB's left in the playoffs are under the number.

Did you happen to notice that 3 of the 4 HC candidates are African Americans? The 4th originally turned down Cucks interview request and only agreed to interview after all of the HC jobs except Philly's were filled.

I think this speaks volumes about who DW4 is and what he wants. Sad part is Cuck's going to give DW4 what he wants and the result of this will be the lost decade.

Pretty good candidates though

When you consider Bienemy, Eberflus and Saleh were candidates on every coaching list and were even suggested by Watson, why didn't they interview them earlier?

Also if you think about this. With the number of times that Bienemy and Eberflus have coached against the Texans in recent years, they are very familiar with the personnel. What is the harm in interviewing them and getting their feedback on deficiencies they noticed on your team and how they would improve it? To conduct a HC search and not even interview them, I would question the validity of the HC search.

As far as the black HC gibberish. I'll let the blind squirrels run with that narrative. It's not worth a response.

Being they new their new GM was going to have a big voice in their HC hire, maybe they were laying the groundwork for coordinator & assistant coaching positions.

Yes, the HC is going to have a big voice in who he would bring as coordinators & assistants. But our last two HCs have had extremely small circles & they were just looking for candidates.

I'm surprised, as well, but I think the historic loyalty to the Texans has become a thing of the past and someone is eventually going to write a book at some point. You can only contain this much drama for so long before someone decides to capitalize on it.

I've read a couple of good books over the years about Bud Adams and his antics. The Texans are reaching that level of intrigue.

So, the Texans will have their version of the Cowboys book. Instead, it will be titled God's EVP?

Good point. However, if those coaching candidate were hired by other teams before the GM hire, they missed an opportunity for honest feedback about their team. Also, even if Bienemy was on Caserio's list and was not interviewed earlier, now you have the peanut gallery squawking about Watson getting his way. At the end of the day, perception is reality for some fans. Regardless how illogical and outlandish.

lol Perhaps!

A couple of good Oilers books are Loser Takes All: Bud Adams, Bad Football, & Big Business (by Ed Fowler, former Houston sportswriter), and Oiler Blues: The Story of Pro Football's Most Frustrating Team (by John Pirkle).

And in order to keep this thread somewhat on track (and to keep badboy happy :) ), my take on trading Deshaun is to wait it out unless you receive an offer that is historic (i.e. 4 firsts or something).

If I'm the owner, I'd call Deshaun's bluff, and make him sit a season if he's really going to 'stand his ground'. I understand wanting to get value, but respect is not something you can buy.

Playing hardball, forcing a player to back up his stance, is where ownership should draw the line that they will not be extorted to give away top-tier talent. I like #4 and sort of understand his side (little that we truly know, of course), but at the same time, Cal owned the team four months ago when Watson signed the contract.

Watson playing hardball should have been forcing a year 5 without a contract, something similar to what Kirk Cousins did when he kept betting on himself. But he took the money and now wants to get to pick where he gets traded? If I'm Cal, I'm not getting pushed around anymore. JMO.

Or what Dak is doing in Dallas. I wonder who he'll be playing for in 2021

Oh Cal understands, Cal and Jack were doing exactly what Mama instructed them to do.
I'm saying he doesn't understand why everyone is blaming Easterby. There's absolutely nothing to link Easterby to Hopkins but everyone is so sure.

It all goes back to Jack firing Amy. Amy and her media friends said he did, the Texans say Rootes did. Who do you believe?

I'm not understanding how "everyone" is saying Watson is "worth" multiple first & 2nd round picks this year & next,

How are we in so bad a shape because we don't have a 1st & 2nd this season.

We've still got 10 picks in the upcoming draft

Or find a journeyman QB with limited skills that plays smart mistake free football, and hire the BEST position coaches $$$ can buy and coach up the rest of your team.
