Texans random thought of the day

You're entitled to think this.

I remember the time I was counting bad games in a row.

When he can play against playoff level defenses like he's played against the Jags/Lions/Bengals etc... I will consider him to be elite.

Dude fn stop it, he’s lite up top level defenses throughout his career and especially this year. The darn defense is the main reason why we stink along with that cancer being cut.

I can't wait to see your new excuses IF the same trends continue with the new regime.

This should be quite entertaining.

So what do you think it is? Not one QB we've ever had has played well against good defenses. This team wasn't a contender before Watson. So we have this trend continuing from Capers to RAC... somehow, that's Watson?

The past doesn't matter. There's a new regime coming in.

The past shows us the "trend" isn't necessarily because of Watson. If our next coach drools over 3rd down RBs & keep running them up the middle on 1st down... I'm not going to blame Watson. If Watson continues to face the pressure he faces against good defenses, I'm not going to blame Watson.

If Watson looks like Cam Newton did last night, I'll blame Watson.

The past doesn't matter …. providing the new regime can learn from it. O'Brien openly admitted that he was not good at talent evaluation. Kubiak admitted he was an habitual talent scout …. that's what drew him back from his heart problems retirement. TK asked what you thought it was …. pardon my uninvited interference, but, IMHO, it think it is a new regime - including the best talent man they can get their hands on !

Haven't we all just about agreed that Cal and Easterby will be making the call on the new regime? I post my thoughts and opinions to remain a fan b/c I know these dumbarses are the ones making decisions and if I hung tooth and nail on their decisions......I'd probably pick another team to root for or just give up watching the NFL. Hail, I started rooting for the Oilers when we arrived in Houston in 1969.....I was 7 years old. So 51 years of disappointment is something you just adapt to while remaining a fan b/c you can just stand back and discuss all the stupid arse mistakes these franchises (Oilers / Texans) have made since inception. It's a tough road but someone has to do it.

My history is very similar to yours Opto, but a decade earlier. The last part of it made me think a thought I've never had before ! When you see a US map with the NFL teams illuminated, we look strangely isolated. When you think about it, the Texans are the only game in town …. but …. it's a town that ranks 3rd in population ! Whoever owns this franchise, has got a nest on the ground. As far as being super competitive, there is no need …. they've got a built in fan base. They don't have to be anything special to keep those cards and letters coming in. The McNairs' motto can be the song …. "Don't worry, be Happy" ! Reminiscent of the old Broadway line …. "Yeah, but will it play in Poughkeepsie" ? Today's answer …. "I don't know, but it will in Houston …. they're starved for entertainment" !

Exactly. Take a look at O'Brien's record against .500 or better teams with and without Watson. Could it simply be that when matched against a better team, THE TEXANS are out classed, out schemed, out coached and as a result, out played? Maybe, just maybe, the record against elite defenses is more of a reflection on O'Brien and his ED offense.

This article was posted before the 2019 season. But the post still stands.
  • Digging deeper into the most important stat, the wins and losses, we find that the O’Brien-led Texans are 16-31 against teams with a record above .500, which clocks in at a .340 winning percentage for OB against winning teams.
  • Against divisional opponents, the Texans are 15-6, or .714. That’s how they’ve won three division crowns under O’Brien.
  • As of the end of the 2017 season, O’Brien was second-worst in the league when it came to challenging officiating calls, with a success rate of 8-23 (.348)
  • Against the AFC elite over the last five seasons, that’s good for a record of 3-10 (.300). This falls just north of O’Brien’s playoff record of 1-3, with the lone win coming against an Oakland Raiders team fielding a rookie quarterback in his first ever NFL start.

We're going to find out.

But if DW4 isn't successful then there will be more excuses. There will always be more excuses for the next 5 years if he's not successful.

Exactly what does the new regime need to learn from the old regime?

Now if you said ownership needs to learn from mistakes they have made I would be fully on board with this post. Of course it doesn't look like ownership has learned a darn thing. Example: The preacherman who carried out ownerships misdeeds is getting to pick the next regime. Easterby is nothing more than a good soldier carrying out Janice/Cal's wishes. The snakeoil salesman. Whatever could go wrong?

I've said it since 2010 the McNair's dont really care about winning. They care about making money and the socialite circle they hang out in.

Agreed, but he's going to face pressure against good defenses, all QB's face pressure against good defenses. How DW4 handles the pressure will be the key to his success. I hope DW4 never looks like Newton did last night.

So is the preacherman a yes man, carrying out the whims of the McNairs, or is he a snakeoil salesman with the McNairs under his spell?

How do you beat Brady? With pressure. & he’s the Goat.

The OL has to do it’s job. & the QB is still expected to deal with some pressure, but not as the rate Watson does.

Both

He managed to get in the McNair's good graces.

Truth is both the McNair's and Easterby share alot of the same values and those values aren't conducive to having a championship team down on Kirby.

Some of the pressure is self inflicted.

We can only hope DW4 becomes as good as Brady when it comes to dealing with pressure. How many times during games have you screamed at your TV? (Get rid of the damn ball)

Almost 5K yards passing and 70% completion rate with 30+ TD’s and single digit INT’s would say Watson has exceeded expectations with a horrendous Texans team.

In all reality, Watson is at the top of his game. The little warts that remain would simply be corrected once the rest of the Texans (including coaches) are elevated to better than crap.

The way you try to analyze Watson....he’d never get better and would probably regress even if the team finally elevates the talent around him to respectable. If this team finally figures out how to elevate their staff and talent....Watson will deliver and only a few folks on this board may be eating their words by the spoonful.

Some habits are harder to break than others. I'll bet he's been saving the day since he was 6 or 8 years old. He probably learned very quickly, that if he really needed to, he was good enough to do whatever - whenever, to win in any situation. That savior mentality might engage as soon as touches a ball !

Anybody know why the game is moved to 3:25

Colts play at 3:25 as well. They don't want the division race potentially being over before the Colts play their game. If the Titans play at noon and win, and with Miami, Baltimore and Cleveland all playing at noon, the Colts could end up with nothing to play for when their game starts. Moving Texans/Titans keeps the Colts game meaningful no matter how those other games turn out.

I love the last week of the season when there are several games that mean something. Going to be lots of them this weekend. The RED ZONE is gonna be rocking. 7 games at noon and 8 games at 3..awesome!

Empty stats

You dont know this and neither do I.

We can only hope your right.

I will very happily eat my words. Do I think DW4 can improve? Yes. Do I think he needs to improve alot to become the elite QB that many on this MB including you think he is? Yes

Exactly

This is what I've been talking about when I say he needs to change the way he's been playing his entire life and that change isn't easy, Some like Mahomes can make the change, Most cant.

Public service announcement...
Unless you live in the Houston TV market you will not see the Texans on CBS (unless you have Sunday Ticket) ass wipes are showing the Rams/Cardinals game...
as of now, it may change between now and then. Commie turds
