Hopkins traded to Cardinals?

Watson's only season out with an injury and OB finished with a flashy 4-12 season. Who else gets the major kudos for what the Texans have accomplished from 2017-2019? The defense- LOL! The OL- LOL! The running game- some! The receiving game- only Hopkins gets the nod!

So OB's ability to keep his job has primarily fallen on the shoulders of Watson and Hopkins. OB dumped Hopkins so that puts the burden on Watson's shoulders with the hope that one of the often injured players can step up and fill Hopkins shoes.

OB don't have a prayer in 2020 if Watson goes down.

Just as with any starting QB in the NFL.

How did the Packers look without Rodgers 2 yrs ago?

If he was playing great they shouldn't have gotten out scored 31-7. No L to take here.

Bro you’re not even making any sense. All DW4 can do is throw the ball where it’s supposed to go. He can’t make the WR’s catch it, he can’t block, he can’t tackle or play defense. The fact that you’re willfully ignoring any and all variables in what amounts to a team loss speaks volumes about how biased your whole argument is.

So, does Watson save OB's arse again this year? Or, is OB praying that Watson doesn't go down with a season ending injury b/c that almost guarantees the Dolphins 2 picks inside the top seven or maybe even the one and two pick in the draft.

They get to rebuild.....the Texans.....

Have no cap for 2021, veteran players will have to be dumped, veteran FA's could walk due to team cap issues, and OB (if he survives) could have his first pick of the draft at 65 or 70 in RD3 in what would become a rebuild. Looking forward to seeing how OB cleans up his very own shiteshow. Also worth noting, the man has never been on the right side of a trade nor do I see him correcting this shortcoming.
I would do the Carlos Hyde for Rankins 100 out of 100. I am not :firehair:over Tunsil either whom we had for an entire season before the 2020 pick was used and two season before the 2021 picks will be. 100 percent of posters before the trade for Tunsil were trashing our oline and Pat Devlin. Who wasn't freaked out when Dashaun almost needed an organ transplant on the sidelines? We focus on the false starts which are an issue but no where near as significant as keeping our starting QB on his feet and not getting his butt planted. Left tackle is known as second most important position and we haven't had one since Duane Brown. Tunsil said he wasn't talking about an Extension when he was traded to Houston. Some whimpered "well don't get him then." What would odds have been for keeping Watson healthy if no Laremy Tunsil in 2019?
Let's not forget that Tunsil extension was in April and no one knew what covid would do to cap. We got a probowler for $2 million in 2019 that cost us nothing in that season. Aren't we always talking about getting production from rookie deals? We did.
2020 his cap is only 14m and we can trade him at anytime with only $3.25 m dead. Can cut him after this season if he is worth anything in a trade for dead money $6.5. I doubt though he goes anywhere.

I'm not ignoring that pass pro could've been much better or that the defense couldn't stop the run. I'm also not ignoring the rookie OC/DC 1st game, or that they were facing the SB champs with a QB that's been the NFL MVP and SB MVP in his two I repeat 2 yrs in the league. I also am not ignoring Reid is a better HC than BOB or that the Chiefs who are the more talented team won.

With that said, 6 bad games in a row and counting is a trend.

I’m fine with getting Tunsil....I was never good with the Texans future OB shipped away.

I think defenses respect Tunsil but smart DC’s know their best disruption comes through the interior and primarily through Martin and Fulton.

I would’ve kept the picks and been much more enthusiastic to see the trenches fortified through the draft. But, when I look at this idea through critical lenses, I don’t think OB’s offensive scheme, no matter how he's tweaked it, is not good for the OL and he’s refused to hold Devlin accountable.

Well sure, I would like to get a Bentley for much less than dealer wants; but they are rarely discounted. I bought my first Pontiac Solstice in 2006 one of the first offered and had to pay window sticker which I had never done before or since. Dealer said "want it? Pay for it." I did and was glad every day after. I found out at a car rally that all had paid more than sticker price with one couple going $2,000 over.

Disruption goes where the weak links are. For Texans it is from center to the right. Hopefully that will change this season but game one could not tell it. Don't forget while you were holding your draft picks Watson would have been getting crushed all 2019. The 2020 draft did not offer much at left tackle and not much interior either.

That was the bottom line. A lot of mistakes came to a head. I won't blame O'Brien on this one.
Yeah I get it that we need help and don't have a first or second but Tunsil I think is real deal. I like Sharpie and if Howard can improve and solidify RT I am hoping the other two spots won't get Watson smashed.

More hope is Scharping can take over center sooner than later. We know he got a handful snaps to familiarize. We know he had versatility as he played both tackles and guard in college. He has a solid base and handles his 325 lbs well. Hate to move him but we must improve at center; perhaps with a true off season training he could be ready to go. Heck might be able to take Sharpie place at LG by 2021 between Tunsil and Sharpie and be better with their help. Not seeing it yet but R Johnson if he could handle RG and move Fulton out, we could have one of better lines in NFL. Guess my post should have gone into Oline thread.

Kyler was the 1 out there giving the 49ers fits, not Nuk. For all Nuk’s numbers in the passing game, Kyler only passed for 230 and The cardinals only went the length of the field and converted for a TD twice...1 of those TD drives was finished off with a 30 yard scamper by Murray. The only other was the final go ahead drive were Nuk was basically running by himself for a 31 yd catch and run. You think he’d be running by himself like that if the 49ers weren’t intent on keeping someone in to spy Murray b/c he had been killing them running the ball up to that point?
Seems like lot of people want to overlook that fact that 49er's CBs including their 2 starting CBs were hammered with injuries.

Did you mean 49's CB's? One thing is for certain during DHops career.....he's done his job against all walks of CB's and coverages. His performance against the 49's wasn't a fluke but a continuation of what we've all come to expect. The Cardinals offense and Hopkins should put up very good numbers as Murray figures out how to spread the ball around to Fitzgerald and Kirk making it much harder for defenses to double DHop.

Yes, thanks, I meant 49ers CBs [have now changed it]. I still feel having 3 "afflicted" CBs affected Hopkins numbers and the final results. We'll see if Murray figures it out, or follows Watson's easy out track.

According to some posters, Hopkins was on the market for a long time and O'Brien couldn't find any trade partners. Well, we can count Ron Rivera as HC who didn't know Hopkins was on the trade market.

"It would have been nice, then, if Washington had known in March that one of the best receivers in the game, DeAndre Hopkins, was on the trading block for the Houston Texans.

“No, we had no sense he was on the market,” Rivera told Washington reporters Wednesday."

Asked if he was surprised that the Texans, led by coach and executive Bill O’Brien, traded Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals, Rivera responded with the affirmative.

“Yeah, just like everybody else,” he said. “We were all surprised. Here’s a talented player playing for a team he had played very well for and they traded him. It was a decision that was made on another team.”

  • DeAndre Hopkins signed a lucrative two-year, $54MM add-on with the Cardinals add-on recently. He will go from earning $26MM through 2021 on his previous deal to making $42.75MM — all fully guaranteed — in that span, according to Albert Breer of SI.com (on Twitter). Hopkins’ $6.65MM 2022 base salary vests in March 2021, Breer adds. Signed through 2024, Hopkins will receive $60.1MM over the deal’s first three years — up from the $39.1MM he would have collected under the terms of his Texans-constructed contract. The final two years of Hopkins’ new deal — 2023 and ’24 — are option years, Breer adds (via Twitter).

If Texans thought Washington would not be a trade partner I could see W not being made aware. IIRC, in one of my trade scenarios I had Hopkins going to Washington but no one thought it would happen.

Either you're a good team drafting in the 20's you trade away two 1sts to move up & get a guy like Tunsil. Bonafide #1 overall talent. Or you suck & get the #1 overall pick.

I'd much rather be the good team & not the suck team.

Now of course it would be nice to have a good coaching staff that could develop a LT. But at least ours know their limitations.

Hopkins is THE best receiver in football I been saying that **** for years, it took him getting away from O'Brien's bullshit offense to finally show everyone whats real. O'Brien is the worst ******* thing to ever happen to this team, we're about to pay the price for all those division titles by taking over the NFL as the new Bengals for the next decade.

.......but...but....but....no, he's a Lothario genetic jack-hammer and locker room cancer according to OB, the ultimate bullshite artist. That's right OB, like everything else within the Texans organization....you had the most talented NFL WR and never figured out how to best utilize him.

"Through three games, he has caught a career-high 32 passes, which is tied for the third-most in NFL history. . ." ~ Source

How can any player in the Texans locker room look at O'Brien with anything but contempt for this deal?

I seriously think OB has lost this team and now they're going thru the motions hoping this might finally be the season he's shown the door.

I hope D-Hop catches 200 balls for 2,000 yards and 10+ TD's....

I'd be fine with 145 Catches / 1,965 Yards / 24 TD......it would be the greatest WR season in NFL history and might not ever be out done since each record is held by a different WR. TD's could be tough but the Catches and Yards are very achievable based on his current production.

Hopkins did not practice today. The Injury Report named "ankle." In weeks 1-3, Hopkins also did not participate on Wednesdays, but for rest only under the label of "not injury related."

Despite appearing in all 16 games in 2018, Hopkins was one of the more banged up receivers in the league. He battled ankle, foot, thumb and hamstring injuries throughout the season and played through a serious shoulder injury that involved tearing ligaments off of the bone. He was then placed on the PUP list to start the 2019 preseason due to an ankle injury. He was removed from the PUP list less than a week after training camp started.

Hopkins is one of those players who is always battling an injury but plays through it and tends to do pretty well - he has missed just one game in his six-year career - but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t come with quite a bit of risk. Once an ankle is sprained, the ligaments stretch out. With time it improves, but the ligaments don’t go back to how they were before the injury. Hopkins has had multiple ankle injuries in his career, so he is more susceptible to future ankle problems. Add in the fact that he has had lower body muscular strains and there should be some concern.

Maybe we suck for two years and get 1.1 in 2022 it's not as if we have not done it before...i mean only one team can earn top pick in the draft.

Its the NFL. Almost everyone who plays multiple years will be nursing some kind of nagging injuries or will be on the brink of missing games due to lingering issues.

Hopkins did not practice again today. If he does not practice tomorrow, he is unlikely to play Sunday (keep in mind that Fri is usually a walk-thru)................his Fri final playing status will tell the story, even if it is only "Questionable."

Not necessarily directed at you, but why do we care about all things Hopkins?

I really don’t understand the purpose of this thread anymore.

It's in the NFL section. And he's a player that a lot of Texans fans really like(d) and expected to be in Houston for most of his career.

The decision to ship him off is a direct reflection of current Texans ownership and management.

I like keeping up with Hopkins simply to highlight what an utter boneheaded decision it was to trade him. The better he does, the worst the Texans front office looks, especially when the production level of what they replaced Nuk with is sub-par.

JMO, of course.

Well there you go... he's obviously being targeted to much for Arizona and Murray to ever be successful. If they don't spread the ball around more they'll never be able to win.

I could always buy the "he wants too much money, too soon after agreeing to a deal" but can't buy the, "he got to many targets" bull pucks.

Just an FYI, prior to week 4, he averaged 105 yds. It precipitously dropped to only 41 yds against the Panthers. With Hopkins ankle issue, he shouldn't have been out there at all. In the past, Hopkins has played through ankle issues, but he has never had to have total rest from practice the entire week preceding those games. Ankles don't get better by practicing on them, let alone playing games on them.

Here is Tajh Boyd talking about the trade. Take it for what it's worth:

We're listening to Taj Boyd.

A guy who put up numbers and failed at the NFL level. (The Clemson offense), I guess whoever drafted him would've made him a great NFL QB if Dabo had only been his HC. Is this what the argument has really come too, and if so tell me how much better Taj was than DW4 is?

What does DW4 have to do with this conversation? How is Tajh Boyd talking about what he heard happened between Hopkins and O'Brien lead to your obsession with DW4?
