Here's how this works:

1) I've chosen a mock/draft board that will remain unknown until after the mock ends and will list the players taken prior to the Texans pick.

2) Members will have 24 or so hours to vote for their choice at that particular draft selection.

3) I will post the selection at 8 pm each night and post the next group of players off the board.

4) Please no more than one vote per member, other than the Round 7 selections.

Schedule for voting:

4/5 8PM - 4/6 8 PM - Pick 2.40
4/6 8PM - 4/7 8 PM - Pick 2.57
4/7 8PM - 4/8 8 PM - Pick 3.90
4/8 8PM - 4/9 8 PM - Pick 4.111

Terrell Lewis and good work on pre-40 selections Lucky. 90 percent chance it falls this way. I'd be thrilled to draft Lewis and eagerly await 2.57 as it gets tougher now.

edit Cesar Ruiz was enticing but hoping he falls.

Laviska Shenault WR Colo.
Solidly built receiver that can line up anywhere.
Wins the lions share of contested catches and has good numbers at 13+ per. Dude runs like a RB and is rated as 4th best WR on the board.
Not a burner but no slouch at 4:58.
Medium floor, high ceiling. Has some minor injury concerns but if he is still on the board, I think you have to take him.
Could be Titans AJ Brown 2.0

In this Mock, no IOL have been taken. Sign me up for OG/C- Cesar Ruiz, Michigan.
My thought on Ruiz is OBrien is going to play Fulton over whomever so an IOL will be a backup and we need starters. I think we need a replacement but Fulton signed thru 2021 with $7m cap savings as is this season. Suggest going IOL later rounds and get starter(s) or BPA in second and third. Just my two cents. I recognise that RUiz could be your BPA at 2.40

I like him but are you researching ahead to see if another WR offering similar is available later freeing up 2.40? For example: Raeger, Claypool and Michael Pittman could be available at 2.57 with Claypool ranked in 80s my some analysts and possibly there at 3.90. Not to bunny trail but has any more been mention of Smith-Shuster? He would eliminate drafting that position, IMO.

After watching some film of this guy I can only surmise his injuries are holding him back from higher up the board.
Dude is a mid 1st rounder if no concerns and I believe the injuries are minor.
I have taken him here as the 2.40 pick closes tonite on this mock.

Martin and Fulton were weak links last season and would be issues once again. Ruiz could move over and take the RG spot while bumping Fulton over to trade bait.....not to mention be a better RG from Day 1. OL depth is still a major area of concern. This OL has to get better and OB hasn't addressed this in the off-season.

You can find an upgrade at OG much later in this draft to improve the OL. (Muti/Ishmeal/Runyan/Phillips/Steinberg are some of my favorites.)

Gotta fix the defense 1st.

I'm sick of having WR's that are injured all of the time. If Shenault is there in the 3rd (Doubtful) I would consider him but probably still not pick him. Give me a healthy Duvernay over Shenault and his injury history.

I'm looking for starters at OL, DL and OLB. A better OL is going to help Watson, the running game and receivers. A better defensive front 7 will help hide the potential shortcomings of the teams DB's.

Every area of need will not be covered in this draft. OB has filled up his receiving and defensive back room. I think he's going to try to load up the trenches in this draft with his type of players.......man I hope this is his thinking.

The guys I listed are capable of starting at RG. Phillips in particular (Played LT at Miss St.) has the feet and is an absolute road grader. I also like Ishmeal alot and he should be able later in the draft.

After 51-7 it's obvious to me that this team needs to add speed at all levels of the defense very badly. Of course another way to do this would be he Chiefs way. Add everything to the offense and ry to outscore people. But I dont think you can do that with DW4 at QB. Mahomes/DW4 are at 2 totally different talent levels.

I totally agree but as stated OBrien may not agree. I expect OLine to be much better as is.

Just had some great information come from CnD re Shenault and have decided he could be a bit of a risk so would like to change my pick to Brandon Aiyuk WR ArizSt.
He is still learning his trade but is described as dominant in one on one situations and always a threat to take it to the house. Explosive on returns.
If we do lose Nuk and Fuller is to be our #1 wideout, then this guy could be a chance to be our #1 guy in short order if Fuller gets hurt.
We have to try and fill Nuks shoes and that is a tall order and likely to be expensive so a shot at a possible boom guy in Aiyuk appeals.

The Houston Texans are now on the clock at pick 2.57 until 8 PM, 4/7/20.

Sorry to see so few posters participating. Is it a lack of interest in draft or way it will be held or loss of interest in Texans? I was hoping to see corner Jaylon Johnson here. I've a WR in mind...more later after some more brain smoking time.

There are some old timers like @bah007, @WolverineFan , and @beerlover we don't see much of anymore. There are a lot of posters that aren't interested in players until they become Texans. You can look at your thread and those contributing there are mainly the same ones posting here.

Right. And there are a lot of posters like T-kyss that don't watch a lot of college football, youtube videos, or draft sites. This is where they get their info in a one stop shopping spot.

That's what this is all about.

A learning exercise.

Jordan Elliott

Inside pass rush this team has been missing can play anywhere along the DL. Best football is ahead of him.

Davis vs. Elliott was a question I thought about. While Davis is bigger and longer, Elliott is slightly more mobile. Given what the Texans (have traditionally) asked of their DL outside of Watt I went with the bigger, maybe slightly stronger guy. I would make the pick of Davis relying on his Alabama pedigree and hoping that Weaver and Watt can spur him to be the guy he was early at Alabama rather than the JAG he was the past two years. In a perfect world I think Davis could be similar to Buckner or Armstead at SF. I think either Davis or Elliott could put up stats similar to DJ Reader in short time.

A lot of reasons .… No combine or pro days , the lack of information we usually get and of course OB sucking the air out of the stadium , I've lost interest with the thinking that nothing good is going to happen for this team until he's gone.

This is going to be a crazy draft …. we don't have the usual information overload we get on each and every prospect , all we have is game tape to evaluate them by , no 40 times , or meetings …. I don't even know if they are taking the wonderlic.

More teams than not are likely to screw this draft up …. I definitely expect the Texans to be among that group of screw ups.

I have Elliot playing DE and dropping down to DT in pass rushing situations. His versatility is one reason I've got him treated over Davis. Plus I don't like underachievers in college that skip out on the Sr Bowl. Combine.

While I agree he underachieved relative to his sophomore year, Davis appears to be in good shape and very mobile for such a large man. Also, he withdrew from the senior bowl due to an ankle injury and was a full participant in athletic testing at the combine. As I said before, I could easily be talked into Elliott too but I think Davis is a legit option at 57.

You guys offering DE/DT convince me why O'Brien goes there with what we have and the pick up of DT Tim Jernigan? I just don't see that move for a lesser 2020 combine grade Elliot or Davis; Baylor's James Lynch OTOH is more likely with huge stats and can play in/out; only graded at 6.19 though. I think he would compete with Omenihu similar stats, motor and power. Lynch over Omenihu but NFL experience may even it up. I think you are focusing too much on Reader leaving and I think we are okay at Nose. I am still considering a WR here. Feedback welcome.

Drafts are for the long haul....not the present season. Jernigan was a decent pick-up but no way should the Texans figure him to be a 16+ game impact player. Elliott will be a solid starter from Day 1. If Jernigan can buy him some time or be a mentor to Elliott, that would be huge either way and the Texans defense would be much stronger b/c of it. A new WR would be in the same boat since Fuller will be WR1, Stills WR2 and Cobb WR3/SWR1. Any new WR would wait for the call as he learns the system. I have my target WR in RD7 since the receiving room is stacked with system veterans......the target WR would need diversified skills, like ST's as a KR/PR specialist while developing his skills as WR5.

Who is the NT again? Jernigan weighs under 300 lbs and is coming off of back surgery (I could be wrong on the type of surgery)

He will hold up well against the run, but offers little pass rush ability because he looks stiff. IMHO

He would be behind Elliott/Lynch on my list.

Claypool

I think WR is a bigger need than DL at this Point. We do have a few DL players coming back and under contract. Watkins, Omenihu, Eliofor, Watt, Blackson, Dunn, Martin, Mercilus, and we added Vanderdoes, Jernigan, ...

Vanderdos 320 lbs is starting on depth chart but Dunn has played there when Texans moved Reader to DE. Blackson is whom I'd use if V. Doesn't work out.

I had planned for WR here but brain smoking, I just have to go with Baylor DE James Lynch 6'4" 289 5.01Round Rock, TX. 2019: 41tackle 19.5 for loss. 13.5 sack, 13 QB hits, 3 FF; 6 passes broken up.

That's what my struggle was and choice was Claypool. However, WRs even Claypool may be at 3.90. Looking at corner and perhaps AJ Dillon 4th round?

I have been pretty frustrated with the way Texans have been handling all these personnel changes.
We seem to be getting the short end of the stick on these trades and are not hanging on to good players so I have lost a lot of interest in the team.
It has come back a little but only because I love the draft but even the gloss has gone off that with no first round pick.
Guess I'll just hang around and see what happens.:kitten::thinking::forrest:

I have been really conflicted about the 3.90 pick between Darrell Taylor and Chase claypool. Since, in this Mock, the Texans went Terrell Lewis I was going claypool next and picking a player at another position of need. I think either Elliott or Davis offer more than jernigan long term and either one joins omenihu as building for life post JJ. As for lynch, I'm not buying. I may be wrong but I don't see a guy who is anywhere near as productive in the NFL there.
