Cal McNair is the MAJOR problem.

Out of curiosity. Has anyone gotten the impression that Cal McNair has a strong interest or is even passionate about the Texans?
I guess my impression is that Cal may not be the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree. Possibly, a few clowns short of a circus. Not the quickest bunny in the field. Half a bubble off plumb. Has metric tools for a job that clearly requires standard.

In other words, the man is a dumb****.

he brown noses Cal, is self anointed QB guru, that back stabs any player who seeks market value for services, expecting a home discount, just because, well you get to work for him.

Bill doesn’t want anybody challenging his authority or going against his plan. That’s why he’s the lone wolf standing.

Bill O’Brien

I don't mind an egomaniac... I don't mind an authoritarian.... but you have to earn it! O'Brien has done nothing to command respect or earn the trust of players, coaches, fans... Why his temper tantrums are being defended by anyone (especially Cal McNair) is beyond my ability to understand.

Speaking of Cal, does anyone know his first name?

It starts with a D, but that's as far as I've been able to find.

No big deal. Someone asked me the other day and now I'm just curious.

D. Cal McNair

Dangerous?
Dodgy?
Disturbed?
Distrustful?
Demoralizing?
Dipshit?
Dead?

Yea there is zero out there of what it stands for so I gave it a shot. I left out the obvious D word....

I wish we could get everyone to KEEP their seats, do not sell! Just dont show up in said seats. Hell, go tailgate with "Fire O Brien signs everywhere". The ones that do show up in their seats need to have "Fire O Brien" signs everywhere. Boo the man when he takes the field. Boo the man when his face comes up on the screen. Maybe a ton of "please sell the team Cal and Janice" signs would hurt also? You would think one full season of that might leave a mark. Maybe not but its worth a shot, its all we've got....
Why punish the fan base like that? Sell the tickets to the opposing fan base. Recoup your losses. Let the Titans fan base invade NRG when they come to town. The McNair’s are oblivious to boos, it’s been proven with this HC. Maybe they need something a little louder to get their attention.

Oh yea no way those fans SHOULD take the loss, or be "punished." It was a pipe dream on my part....

Out of curiosity. Has anyone gotten the impression that Cal McNair has a strong interest or is even passionate about the Texans? For example, when you watch the Cowboys, it seems that Stephen Jones is heavily involved with the Cowboys, ready to step in and has even influenced Jerry Jones to prevent him from making some of the terrible personnel decisions he used to make.

Watching from afar, I don't get Cal. Maybe Cal is still grieving. But his father passes away, you have the opportunity to put your stamp on the team and you immediately hand the reins over to O'Brien? Maybe he has decided to go "all in" on O'Brien and if it fails, he will clean house.

It worked for the Eagles with Chip Kelly. Maybe it will work out for the Texans. It's just odd.
He's put his stamp on the team.

It's just that most don't like the stamp.

This is my perception as well. Maybe Cal is just a spoiled rich kid who never had to do anything on his own - Kinda like POTUS.

When Kubiak was here the vast majority of Texans fans hated his calm sideline demeanour. They viewed him as a 'Beta', a 'Cuck'. All that was needed was a coach who would light a fire under some asses and yell at people a bit more. Well, we got him...

True, but we did want one who at least knew what he was doing and could keep his head out of his a-hole.

I can’t imagine Cal getting excited about anything. He runs a slower moving organization than his dad did...and that’s saying something.

I think this is finally 0B’s “$hi7 or get off the pot” year. Cal probably agreed to give him free reign for one season and then make a decision at the end of it.

Doesn’t make any sense but it seems like that’s the way it’s worked in years past. They would rather wait and hit the iceberg and completely sink the ship when they could just hire a new HC and change course.

We all know the Texans always have been mediocre under the ownership of the McNair family and they probably always will be.
Don Henley once sang a song that is gets to the bottom of this.

Gotta get down to the heart of the matter.

Fans sitting near the Texans tunnel and the southwest tunnel where Cal exits the field will have important responsibilities this season. They must boo and cuss Bill and Cal whenever they are within earshot. Fans sitting in the south end zone directly in front of the owner's suite also have a critical role to play; they must hold up signs degrading Bill so Cal will be forced to see them the entire game.

Cal's like his daddy. Look at FA as a guide. Cal hasn't been any different than his daddy. Cheapass blood runs deep.

...very apropos.

Irony in that the lyrics of that song tell a story that may very well coincide with our/this situation. If BOB is shown the door maybe we as fans can be the first ones that forgive so that we can move on. That’s what that entire song is about but I have a strong feeling there won‘t be much “forgiveness“ even if, even if he doesn’t love us anymore”......

The only way Cal McNair can win back this fan base, because he may lose it, is to fire Bill O'Brien immediately.
No ifs or buts.
If it means he has to eat his contract, so be it.
O'Brien has now proven several times he is not a GM.
He needs to go - GM's lose their jobs for a trade like Clowney's - now this on top of it?
Smdh.
Personally, I think it is going to happen and probably very soon.
The outcry from the fan base has to be of concern for Cal.
Ever hear the story about the Emperor's new clothes? Reminds me of Cletus and OB is the weaver. Both of them. One as HC and one as GM.

Yep. Be careful what you wish for, because it might come true.

Funny thing is you often do not realize what you had until it's gone. . .Not talking about Kubiak & O'Brien. Just missing the Houston Oilers! :shades:

some may construe or confuse this statement “missing the Houston Oilers” but my take from this is Bud Adams while being a deplorable human being compared to Bob McNair, now Cal, had much higher football acuity. But in his latter years that too declined as he stuck with Jeff Fisher.

Some memories seem better over time than they really were. Like Texans under Rick Smith General Management now seem a lot better to me too now over replacement Bill Butt Chin O’Brian :homer:

Yep. I never said I missed Bud Adams. I just miss the football team I grew up with in Houston. It had history & character, and it was not this glossy, corporate-produced entertainment product only concerned with J.D. Power survey results to maximize profit-potential.

When comparing two crappy owners, it comes down to other things.

Besides, the derrick just looks better than the asymmetrical graphics-design created bull-thing that was crafted strictly to sell merchandise. Oil is still very relevant in this city. Cows. . .'eh, not so much. It's just playing into a Texas stereotype, again trying to market the team to a wider base. Yeehaw. JMO.

Per John McClain:

Q: When will the McNairs get the message this city needs OB gone? This is getting crazier and crazier. — Ruben L.

A: The McNairs are aware of how the fanbase feels about O’Brien, Ruben.
This is McFootball. Just like McDonalds, Inc. does not care what you think about their food product, the owners of Houston Texans, Inc. don't care what you think about their product (as long as their profits keep rolling in).

Been saying this since 2010.

How many are starting believe what I was saying way back then?

Remember the good old days when posters used to say the McNairs are hands off owners or this oldie but goody the McNair's are new owners and they're still learning how to bring a winner to the city?

BTW, what in the McNair's business model has changed since 2010? The results are and will continue to be very predictable. Then when you add in having incompetent people like RS/BOB run the on field product of their org you get what we as a fanbase have now. (Apathy)

Not that the McNair's care about this as long as their able to keep on cashin those checks.

then maybe it’s time to admit you’ve been wrong. In the 9 seasons since 2010 the Texans have won the division 6 times, reaching the Division round 3 times.

Sure, no Super Bowls or even Conf Championship Games, but before 2010, when you weren’t saying this stupid sht, one winning season, no playoffs.

They've never been true championship contenders. I gave Smithiak time to build their team. That's when I realized what the McNair's were all about.

But there's a definite step change between before you started saying it & after. That change alone shows at least winning is important, not just money.

Maybe not winning at the highest level, I don't know. We'll have to wait & see.

I am surprised Cal is taking so long to fire OBrien.
Looks like he may be waiting to see latest ticket sales data.
If not, then he is showing he is disconnected from the fanbase.
This is not looking good for the Texans franchise.

New poster here...

I agree cal is missing several brain cells. I mean look at the guy, he looks so oblivious with that expression.

I also have to agree he gave obrien absolute power and promised not to interfere in order for obrien to prove to cal he has the master plan.

With all the players coming out about obrien being difficult to deal with and him destroying careers, someone has to point out the giraffe in the room. I recall them almost coming to blows in the locker room. He didnt seem that terrible when he played for the broncos... im not excusing him by any means. when he did get pulled, the giraffe made savage look good. As soon as obrien actually started preparing him for games, he also turned to an ape tossing poop.

obrien doesnt need to coach better.... he needs to coach something different or better yet, coach somewhere else.

Cal also has his whole life for his team to become champions. Obriens already here, whats a couple years to cal. He might as well burn a few years with obrien, no point in moving on when you dont have the urgency to win. Let obrien prove rhat he either is the guy or isnt.

I dont agree with this but it makes sense that it is cals thought process.
