Cal McNair is the MAJOR problem.

Does BOB really want Watson. Does Cal want Watson as QB. The only thing that connects is that either or possibly both do not want Watson as QB for whatever reason. Could BOB have traded DHop so Watson would fail and then he could justify putting in his boy McCarron or Cal's choice. Could this just be more of the "inmates running the ......" mentality by BOB and Cal. Duane Brown seems like an intelligent perceptive individual but one who is not going to put up with injustice. Duane told a story but it was ignored and covered up. I think there is definitely something in common with us giving away Brown, Clowney, and DHop. It may be as simple as BOB is a little little man or BOB and McNair or idiots but it could be more.

I don't see Watson being here after his contract is done.

The real story will come out after Watson and BOB are gone. but it is too bad for Texans fans that the real story is not out there yet.
Watson or JJ could say something but it is not their style. Watson at this point may not want to be here anyway.

What a total fricking waste.

What do you think is the real motive or impetus for this move and the others?

DB spoke highly of BOB

Not so much the McNair's.

I hope DW4 leaves too.

Janice has more balls than Cal does .. might need to start sending her all the hate mail.

The only way Cal McNair can win back this fanbase, because he may lose it, is to fire Bill O'Brien immediately.
No ifs or buts.
If it means he has to eat his contract, so be it.
O'Brien has now proven several times he is not a GM.
He needs to go - GM's lose their jobs for a trade like Clowney's - now this on top of it?
Smdh.
Personally, I think it is going to happen and probably very soon.
The outcry from the fanbase has to be of concern for Cal.

I think so too. But who could we bring in on such short notice so soon before the draft? Would Romeo be interim head coach? Even if so, we would have to resume our General Manager hunt.

Honestly do you really think the McNairs have any interest in the fan bases opinions and sentiments about O'Briens actions as GM ?
O'Brien like all GMs is accountable to ownership and the McNairs are either in approval or totally agnostic about his activities in that role,
but I do wonder if the McNairs have any contact with the fan base ?

I'm thinking Easterby.
Romeo could lend advice as someone who knows a little bit about the NFL.

Yes I do but somehow O'Brien has Cal mesmerized.
This current outcry has to speak to him.

The Fanbase is still interested. Don't they sell out and have a long waiting line for tickets. We may have given up but the cash register still rings. TV money still supports the team even if the Fans don't.

Maybe he is just a spoiled rich kid that doesn't want to deal with anything and Obrien plays him and handles everything so everybody is happy.
Disagree.
This was his dad's team and he got a lot of pleasure from it and Cal would have seen that.
It is also a part of his legacy and Cal will want to protect both those ideals.

Revenue sharing for guaranteed profits and PSLs mean that owners don't have to care about the product on the field, the concerns of fans, or any sort of public perception.

Some owners do care, of course, but others are okay with mediocrity and some don't care about winning at all.

Cal McNair seems to be okay with perpetual slightly-better-than-mediocre results, as long as it has a good marketing angle (i.e. winning records and so-called division "championships").

These marketing companies have this stuff down to a science.

As customers, we can choose to consume the McFootball product or we can find something better to do with our time. Just like McDonalds ultimately does not care what you think of their food as long as the herd continues to consume it, the same can be said about many entertainment products - including Houston Texans, Inc.

Bob McNair was old school. I think he did care about the final product. He wanted to win, but he wasn't willing to adapt enough to accommodate modern sports teams procedures, coaches and athletes. He forced his own style of boardroom consensus front office, because that's what he was comfortable with as a successful businessman.

Cal, on the other hand, is clearly a beta-personality follower, and is obviously content with status quo. He's never had to do much on his own - even his trophy hunting is guided and hand-held - and in his mind this is the way daddy ran it so he will do it the same way. Right down to loyalty toward those that neither earned it nor deserve it.

Ob has traded 3 pro bowlers and has not received a single 1st round pick. Let that sink in. Ob will be gone soon and Watson will carry us to a championship with the right coach

What do those 3 pro bowlers have in common.

BTW, BOB wasn't the GM when DB was traded and the DB trade wasn't RS fault. Bob McNair ordered that trade.

The problem is you can’t recover from the first bad deal. You give Clowney away for peanuts, and overpay for Tunsil, now everybody sets the Texans’ rate in trade deals.

What about when agents see us paying mediocre players top dollar at their position? What happens when they sit at the table with an actual top player?

The Texans don't pay top dollar for top players. Why do you think Nuk was traded.

McNairs like their money

If this is true, why the hell is the GM giving away so many draft picks? If your owner is not going to spend big on veterans, doesn't this seem very ill-advised?
The excuse coming out of Kirby is that Hopkins had to be traded so Watson and Tunsil can be extended. OK. The clock is now ticking. If they are not extended by the time the season starts (whenever the hell that will be), we will know this is BS.

We already know that's bullsh …. They had plenty of cap space.

spot on? Then explain taking on David Johnson’s big contract?

His contract is only for next yr really and see CnD's post on DJ's injury history. BOB took a shot in the dark hoping DJ would regain past magic.

I dont agree with this line of thinking but I'm telling you what I think he is thinking.

Well, he better regain his past magic along with good health. The ship will probably start to sink come training camp. I just hope O’Brien doesn’t trade any more future 1st and 2nd round picks for someone out of desperation.

The contact they have with the fanbase is …. showing up on Sunday to a packed stadium.

That's not going to change , the stadium will remain packed by a bunch of people who go to the games not because they like football or know much about it but for the "experience" and social status ….

That and PSL's have doomed fans …. for every person who lets their tickets go , there's a dozen clowns ready to snap them up.

Then you have the corporate influence , many seats are owned by businesses and they take clients to games or give them to employee's.

There's not a chance in hell that the McNair's hear the "fanbase" backlash when the stadium is filled to capacity they'll never notice the difference.

We're screwed .... until they sell the team.

Bill doesn’t want anybody challenging his authority or going against his plan. That’s why he’s the lone wolf standing.

The stadium is not filled to capacity. The tickets are sold, yes, but those seats aren’t being filled. And if they are it’s with opposing team’s fans here lately.

And the PSLs make it to where you can’t just drop your tickets without losing a huge investment. That’s hard to do. And those who do drop them, they aren’t just getting snapped up immediately.

The waiting list is mainly for those seats that aren’t PSLs. That’s why the list is so long and takes people forever to move up. It’s because there’s only a limited number of those tickets available, not because they’re waiting on PSLs. I mean you can be waiting for PSLs but that would be an even longer wait.

PSLs were a way for the NFL to pretty much lock fans in. If you’re going to drop them, you lose a whole lot of money.

So quit blaming this on fans. You want to make a some kind of impact, stop watching them on TV. There’s only 70,000 or so who can see them in person. Millions are watching on TV. Millions are made at the stadium, billions are made from TV.

Steel... Lol

Neither do you

However, just because I don't think DW4 can win a SB unless he changes the way he has played his entire life has caused you to not only dislike me but has driven you to troll me is just sad.

O guess I'm renting space in your head and for that I would like to apologise.

Agreed

Not gonna happen

This all is on Bill O’Brien not the McNairs.

If you say so

Who hired BOB?

Why have the Texans never been players in fa?

What has been the constant since the franchises inception? Do the McNairs prioritize winning?

I've been saying these things since 2010 and the Nuk deal is just another example of what I have been talking about for yrs. Difference is I can't do anything about the poor MGMT and money grubbing. So I've chosen to accept things for the way they are a d make light of ownership.

I do want the fans to show up. I want the stadium filled to absolute capacity and I want every man, woman and child to boo BOB with a ferocity that has never been seen in sports at any level. I want it to be so bad for BOB that it becomes a national story and Cal will have no choice to take action.

This guy has to be removed. His ego is completely out of control. When it was just Brandon Brooks I thought it sucked because he was a terrific player, but maybe they just didn’t get along. Then it was Clowney, and now it’s Hopkins. When you have issues with multiple people, at what point do you look in the mirror and realize that the issue is you. We’ve all heard the reports that there is constant tension at Texans HQ. This is no way to run a team. I cannot get past the fact that we’ve lost, at this point, 4 top 100 players and we haven’t received a single first round pick. I know some of these are financially motivated, but once you realize you can’t pay someone why not trade them to try to recoup picks or players.

Just because Texans are employer doesn’t give them the right to get into a players personal business and control what they do or how they act. It’s not like any of the players are out breaking serious laws or hurting others. Supposed to be a business all about winning football games and championship while serving it’s fan base, not stripping team of top tier talent they invested millions in for pennies on the dollar because they got personal.

McNair needs a wake-up call

I wish we could get everyone to KEEP their seats, do not sell! Just dont show up in said seats. Hell, go tailgate with "Fire O Brien signs everywhere". The ones that do show up in their seats need to have "Fire O Brien" signs everywhere. Boo the man when he takes the field. Boo the man when his face comes up on the screen. Maybe a ton of "please sell the team Cal and Janice" signs would hurt also? You would think one full season of that might leave a mark. Maybe not but its worth a shot, its all we've got....

I have a plan that I outlined in another thread. Don't sleep on it. It would take a lot of fans getting on board, but it's going to be a huge story.

Out of curiosity. Has anyone gotten the impression that Cal McNair has a strong interest or is even passionate about the Texans? For example, when you watch the Cowboys, it seems that Stephen Jones is heavily involved with the Cowboys, ready to step in and has even influenced Jerry Jones to prevent him from making some of the terrible personnel decisions he used to make.

Watching from afar, I don't get Cal. Maybe Cal is still grieving. But his father passes away, you have the opportunity to put your stamp on the team and you immediately hand the reins over to O'Brien? Maybe he has decided to go "all in" on O'Brien and if it fails, he will clean house.

It worked for the Eagles with Chip Kelly. Maybe it will work out for the Texans. It's just odd.
