DeAndre Hopkins >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Brown, Samuel, Metcalf and ANYBODY IN THIS YEARS DRAFT.

Not even close. Trying to say so just shows how little you know about football and how far you're willing to go to swallow anything OBrien.
But at what cost?

Not being able to fix the defense because you have a group of highly paid players and subpar starters everywhere else?

This will really fit into your narrative if he doesn't, huh? It was all Hopkins.

Watson has 2 #3 WRs and a part time #2. There has to be a lead dog. Not coming in free agency or a trade. Will O'Brien find one in the draft? If you think so, you have some blind confidence in him I don't possess. Part of me thinks that you desire a total failure by O'Brien, Watson, and the team, in order to get a total rebuild.

If so, you may get what you want.

Naw he only wants Watson to fail, that way he could pound his chest while screaming out loud. “ I TOLD YOU SO”!!!!

All the while knowing how much Hopkins meant to every QB that’s played with him. That’s a big F’n part of this offense gone and will be greatly missed. We also know Obrien and company can not scheme a freaking cold open in this offense.

Damn he F’d Kelly bad with this dumb emotional move

Ok, so he's a victim of circumstance? He has only played 5 seasons, and missed significant time in 2 of them. That's not a great track record.

Meanwhile, Deandre Hopkins has missed all of 2 games in 7 years, and both of those were "week 17 injuries."
I'll try to find CND's post. He describes each injury in detail, and explains why he doesn’t label Johnson as injury prone.

You want to debate Doc on injures and injury related definitions, take it up with him, and good luck.

*editing to say that after I posted the comments above, I saw that many other people had already addressed this.

David Johnson was scouted and drafted as a 3rd down running back. He showed no signs of being a 3 down legitimate starter in the NFL while he was in college. The Cards drafted him and took a flier on him and turned him into a Pro Bowl RB in his first 2 seasons in their system. Completely unexpected. He broke down easily and teams figured him out easily. This was a huge waste of a signing. He is a one hit wonder. We would be better off with Hyde.

With enough homerun balls to keep the defense honest.

I will give you Kittle but I would also point out the WCO makes TE's. See: OD. BTW, A great TE is more important than a great WR. IMHO

Teams that can control the middle of the field with the TE position usually have top offenses.
I’m really excited to see what Warring brings to the table. I’d also like to see Coutee take his job more seriously as he is definitely talented. If those guys can step up our offense might not be so bad

A lot of things have to go right in order to keep the Texans offense at the same production level. And I think we all felt that it had to go up a notch or 2 to get to the next level.

I'm more concerned with team moral. Pretty clear from listening to ex-Texans that the team has tuned O'Brien out. Is there enough leadership left among the players to keep the fire in their eyes? My guess is no, but OK with being proven wrong.

Uncle Rico

Ur apology should be as loud as Ur disrespect was
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Todd Gurley was just flat out released and if we were "RB Shopping" he would have fit this system 100X better (since we were looking at oft injured RBs anyways)

oh and yeah it wouldnt have cost the team Nuk Hopkins or gash the cap.

Ol' Bill and his emotions dont know the word patience. He must have a bunch of estrogen coursing through his veins. LOL.

comedy edit: https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/03/19/rams-release-running-back-todd-gurley/

The Rams couldn’t find anybody to take Todd Gurley off their hands.
(Presumably because Bill O’Brien already traded for a bad running back contract).

Every year ya'll say this and every year they somehow rally under him. At the end of the day, BoB's trying to create a culture of selfless guys who just want to win. Not sure if he is moving in the right direction with trading Nuk, but that's what he's trying to do..

Edit..breaking news Gurley has been released with 4 years left on his contract...wow And ya'll in here complaining about what we got for Nuk....The rams couldn't get **** for a former all-pro lol.

Agreed! A lot would have to go right for us not to have a big drop off. As for leadership I think it squarely on Watson and Watt. We have to hope the majority of the team hasn’t turned on OB

Well put. And I think the McNairs are totally on board with this. Various posters dream about and ask why OB is not replaced, and it's because this culture of selflessness is what the organization is building toward and is all about.

I think the biggest issue everyone has is we are getting raped in his deals.

The whole league knows Gurley’s knee is shot, that, with his contract, is why they couldn’t get anything for him. In reality, the trade should have been AZ’s first and probably 3rd this year and a 2 next year to be fair. We gave up a top 3 guy at his position In his prime, who almost never misses games, and took a RB off their hands that had a bloated contract and was benched because he didn’t fit the system. Keep in mind they transition tagged Drake. There’s no way they were bringing DJ back. On top of that we added a fourth for good measure.

Even if you agree with the why BoB traded Hop, I cannot understand how anyone can be happy with the return. I also can’t see how you equate the Gurley issue with the Hop trade. If anything, it shows that they probably would have had to release or take a late rd pick for DJ

Common sense post. You’re replying to someone who has decided to ignore common sense and instead he has decided to “die” on a hill for someone who has shown he is incompetent at being a GM in the NFL, though.

There simply is not a picture big enough to understand what O’Brien’s big plan is no matter how vivid the imagination. I’ve thought a lot about it...”maybe if he did this...no, that wouldn’t work. What if he traded Watson and...no, that wouldn’t make sense. How about if he traded Tunsil and Mercilus, then... nope, he can’t do that.” Nothing makes sense. And I don’t think he’s done, yet. I suspect GM’s across the NFL are calling him and making ludicrous trade scenarios for the few remaining good players and it’s just a matter of time before he accepts one of them. All it would take is someone telling him a current Texans player said something about him and bam! So long Cunningham, hello 6th round pick.

I'm guessing you didn't know about Gurley's arthritic knee. Because if you did, that would be an exceedingly disingenuous comparison, and an embarrassing act of O'Brien cheerleading.

We would have been better off signing a FA RB or maybe draft one.
We'll have to see about his health; but CnnnD indicates it shouldn't be a chronic concern.

So putting this aside, Johnson is one of the best backs in the league at receiving out of the backfield, with excellant hands.

Also, coming out of college, he was reportedly very good at pass blocking. I found one mention from 2017 that he took pass blocking seriously and made improvement in this aspect of the position a priority, and spends film time identifying blitzes and pass rushing moves. He reportedly has gotten "really, really good".

One of the best at both receiving and pass blocking. This explains why OB wanted this guy and why he will be a good fit for our offense.

Getting him was a good move on paper.

Sounds like Duke Johnson. Sure would have liked to keep that 3rd round pick.

That is very misleading. That David Johnson salary is based on his 2016 production. NO ONE is expecting him to produce based on his salary.
It's not misleading though, because that's how much money he's making and that's the point of the tweet.

The poster said "The Texans better be really, really, really good at running the ball this upcoming season." Then he noted the salaries. My point is, no one expects us to be "really, really, really good at running the ball" based on the salaries. We all know David Johnson will not produce based on his salary.

The Texans will still pay him that salary as if he's still producing the same as 2016. Even more ridiculous the deal turned out unless he produces like Arian Foster.

Lol

We know what this was for the Rams..a salary dump. Gurley's touches were ramped down all last year mainly b/c they wanted to finish setting the stage for dumping him & his massive contract which started to happen with them drafting Henderson in the draft that year.

You guys are hilarious tho with how selective ya'll like to be. 1/2 of ya'll are part of the same crowd that wanted the Texans to give Clowney a long term deal worth upwards of 18 per to stay; arthritic knee and all as has been well chronicled by CnD. The other 1/2 wanted us to pay Tyrann Mathieu to stay........another guy with 2 knee surgeries....... 1 so horrific that it was thought that he would never be the same guy again...the same narrative the Rams used to release Gurley, the cardinals used when they released Mathieu & like with Gurley most fans bought that narrative with Mathieu hook line & sinker. In fact, when he was brought here, many said "clearly he's not the honey badger of old and he can't do what he did at LSU anymore.." By the time the season was over & since he has left, he has not only shown that not only is he still a monster, he is as good as he's ever been.

You think with knee surgeries on both his knees now there isn't some arthritic component to DW4 knees? How do you feel about him in the coming years?

Gurley's younger than all those guys, he still scored 14 total TD's for the Rams last year in a reduced role that he had no control over & there's nothing wrong with his hands... so i have no doubt that next year this dude will be a monster for ATL.

So yes, to answer your question, I am fully aware of the narrative put out around the league about Gurley's knee...........But I also know that there was discontent between McVay & Gurley about how much he was used by the Rams all last year............. & i know Sean McVay said that he should've given him more touches last year..If i recall, he called himself an "idiot" for not doing so.

But whatever, you guys run with the narrative you want to validate your belief & i'll run with mine.

Then its really simple..don't identify with it...but those who do & have been saying it for years know who they are....b/c they were saying the same thing when Clowney got shipped outta here...& were saying the same thing when AJ was released.

Well, I can't wait to see what Johnson does in a Texans jersey. It isn't his fault that Hopkins was a fan favorite here, nor that our General Manager was dumb enough to make this trade. He had success in his past and can have it again here in Houston. He seems to have a little fire left in him as well, not to mention he, like Hopkins, used some rap lyrics to stir the pot. :chef:

Duke's size (5'9" 209 lbs) and strength limits his ability to act the 3-down back and effectively block............at 6'1" 225 lbs, David's size and strength translates into all the features sought for in a 3-down back.
David Johnson is a unique case. All of his draft reports and scouting reports out of college had him listed as a soft runner with upside on his pass catching ability. They said in college he never used his size to his advantage and never showed capabilities to be a workhorse back. Somehow Arizona turned him into a 3 down power back Pro Bowler in his first 2 seasons. Then things went down hill. Will be VERY interesting as to what he can do here. He is not your typical 3 down back who will run over you and get that extra yard. He fit very well into Arizonas system, and have my doubts on what he will do in our system. I am sure he can be effective, but doubt he will produce what people are expecting of him.

If you watched DJ at the Senior Bowl you would've known this was a bad scouting report. He ran with great power in that game.

Hopefully the reason his last 2 seasons have been subpar are.

1. He broke his Wrist
2. He fell out of favor with the new regime and played behind a bad OL.

Hopefully the Texans get the good version of DJ. If they do, the media pundits and some posters on this MB will be eating crow on this trade.

You would need to convince me with a better argument than 1 Senior Bowl game. All reports I read were based on his entire college career, not one game where he knew tons of scouts would be watching him.

Anyone know what kind of pass-pro DJ has to offer?
"Johnson worked to fine-tune his rushing and receiving skills this season, he made one area of his game a priority: pass-protection."

"Wilks, talking about what Johnson most needs to improve, was blunt. "Just some of his protections in the pass pro," Wilks said. "That's the biggest thing right now."

He’s been criticized numerous times about his pass protection. He’s even commented that he needs to improve. He’s not horrible but definitely needs improvement.

Thanks guys. Seeing Hyde and Duke in pass-pro made me appreciate Lamar Miller more.

The acquisition of DJ makes me wonder... why the hell did we spend a 3rd round pick on Duke?
