NFL Random Thought of the Day

The 31-year-old had started 13 games for the Giants this season and led the team with four interceptions and 14 pass break-ups. A second-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2012, he signed a five-year, $62.5 million free-agent contract with New York in 2016.
yes I saved some of my thoughts for my 2020 Texans offseason thread. I'm not sure how serious his ankle injury is but it could have been a situation similar to Jalen Ramsey. I could not find anything saying he would not be able to have started the next game. I think his dead money for 2020 is about three and a half million and that seems very reasonable for a risk.

Unless there is more to the story, If he gets to us on the waiver list I would definitely kick the tires. He is in the fourth year of NFL career, so he has to go through the waivers unlike Terrell Suggs Who should be an automatic unrestricted free agent. I would like to see both of them in for a tryout
Jenkins underwent high ankle surgery the end of 2017 after limping through it for at least 2 months. Since the beginning of Nov of this season, he has been dealing with the same problem. His stats during that time have taken a significant downturn. He was waive/injured. His mouth problem is independent of his ankle re-injury problem. It needs to be noted that Jenkins has been suspended in the past both by the team and by the League. With his obvious recurrent "hoof and mouth disease," I would opt to kick him in the butt rather than in the tires.

Random question.

If you were in need of a QB & had your choice between Ryan Tannehill or Jacoby Brissette, same money... who would you take?

This is what God'ell's NFL has become.

You cant hit guys and have to be PC or you're out of the league.

In addition to the obvious rigging of games.

Marcus Peters fined $14,037 for drinking beer with fans
PFT Posted by Mike Florio on December 14, 2019, 5:35 PM EST

If you think you’re paying too much for beer at pro football games, Marcus Peters says, “Hold my beer.”
Via Ian Rapoport of the NFL, the Ravens cornerback was fined $14,037 by the league for jumping into the stands in Buffalo and drinking a beer in celebration of a fourth-down stop that ended the home team’s effort to tie last Sunday’s game.

It was one of the most entertaining images of the season, even though it looked like Peters didn’t actually get much of the beer into his mouth.

The league calls the infraction unsportsmanlike conduct. Apparently, it’s celebrating with a prop. And there probably was more than a little pearl-clutching at play, given the message that may have been sent to kids about drinking beer.

While the NFL continues to generate millions every year from the sale of beer at games and beer sponsorships.

They don't call it the NO Fun league for nuttin.

Nope,

I just hear you thinking the NFL isn't rigged.

I don't think bad calls equates to a multi-billion dollar company unnecessarily jeopardizing it's business for no good reason, and certainly not in any as of yet obvious manner.

And I also don't quote mythical children's characters like they've spoken to me, but you do you bud.

Believe what you want

I'm sure I wont be changing your mind.

Guess how Art Rooney bought the Steelers.

Thanks for info Doc but his 2018 season after surgery was 70 tackles, 2 INTs and 15 passes defended in 16 games. 2019 13 games despite his re-injury 54 tackles 14 defended and 4 INTs.

I know about the birthday suspension after his pro bowl year but nothing on NFL suspension?
A Pro Bowler in 2016, Jenkins received a one-game suspension a year later after he decided to delay reporting to the team following a bye week so he could celebrate his birthday. This season, he annoyed management with several public criticisms of defensive coordinator James Bettcher's schemes
He should watch his mouth but TBH back in my younger days "retard" was not unheard of among people in my world and was used as is in "you dumbass". I would not oppose a kick in his butt--lol

Has nothing to do with what I want.

With legitimate evidence, sure.

With money.

How did Rooney get the $$$$ to buy the Steelers? I will tell you. A good day at the horse track.

If the Saints/Rams game doesn't do it for you then your mind wont be changed. #Shocking

I know the story. And so he made money and bought into the league ... ok.

No, a terrible call doesn't do it for me. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

It's not one terrible call, that ones just the most obvious.

It was an obviously bad call, I agree.

I can't ignore people here even if I wanted to. Besides that I merely laughed at your comment. You don't have to reply if you don't want to, but don't boohoo someone reacting to your public comment on a public discussion forum.

No boohooing here brother.

You just cant see the forest for the trees. Ever ask yourself how Vegas is so accurate? Only a fool would bet on a NFL football game.

Thanks for the additional info. One thing I will have to mention is that since 2009, Jenkins has had significant attitudinal problems, some leading to arrest. He was kicked off the Gators for what was reported as marijuana use, but it was the associated attitude problems that they didn't want to deal with anymore, despite his very good production...............again when he was suspended by the team (and re-instated quickly because they knew that his high ankle surgery which could have been delayed until after the season, but acted as cover for an otherwise "indefinite" suspension) ..............and now with his release after the tweet (far from the only basis for the action)............all past actions primarily due to uncontrollable poor attitude...........all given "facade" cover.

I can see just fine, I just don't use conspiracy goggles.

Vegas is formulated a particular way with how lines are moved and backed by tons of money to begin with.

Nonetheless individuals make money all the time in sports betting. It's just the casuals that fall for dunderhead odds and traps.

OK

You might want to go get your eyesight checked out.

Eh, I'm good. I know a bad call when I see it.

I know a point spread when I see it and how officials seem to help the scores end up close to the point spread.

We are never going to agree because you choose to turn a blind eye. I've got many friends like you, but some of them are starting to see the light.

I'm moving on, you can have the last word if you wish.

I don't choose to turn anything. I see what I see.

And games are played tight in part because the league is designed for parity, and in part because of things like prevent defenses and 2-minute offenses being such an integral part of how coaches conduct late game situations.

You're always 'moving on' or 'done with' convos, mostly cause you got nothin, but yet you always come back for another game of three-goalpost monte. Everyone sees it. But ya, sure, you're moving on. Ok.

Whatever dude.

You got the last word. We see things totally differently and are never going to agree. Tell me how that sand tastes when you have your head buried in it.

BTW, we have mutual feelings towards each other.

Saints claimed him. Suggs claimed by Chiefs.

Josh Gordon suspended indefinitely for violating NFL PEDs AND substance-abuse policy..........again..............now that sure came as a shock to me!!!!!!!:hankpalm:
I feel bad for the guy. Substance addiction dang near killed me and I still had trouble stopping. Now I’m one class and my Practicum away from my chemical dependency counselor certificate.

The new, the new, the new. Josh Gordon needs to get away from the old inputs and replace them with the new. Getting away from football, his old friends and family that use is what he needs in order to turn things around.

Btw, the people in recovery most likely to relapse are those with at least a year of sobriety.

Looks like you are hanging in there thanks to what I'm sure requires a mighty effort to overcome such a challenging obstacle.
Many years ago I managed to finally quit nicotine (smoking) and that was a major league chore for me, but I'd imagine it was nothing like what you were up against.
So keep up the good work there Banned1976, and best of luck to you in the future man.

I sympathize too. As someone who's fought substance abuse nonsense I can't help but root for the guy. He's by all accounts facing a mountain of a struggle.

Are you sure about that last sentence? For all addictions I thought it was greater chance of relapse within 30 days of leaving treatment? Congratulations on your sobriety and your education. I worked in that field for 8 years and know the heart it takes for care providers

Kareem Jackson's suspension could have impact on the Texans. I'm reading there's potential the Texans could lose a 3rd round comp pick they would have gotten for KJax and end up with a 7th for Kendall Lamm.

Yes. The longer a person stays away from their addiction, especially alcohol the more likely it is that they believe they can have just one drink. Or to a lesser degree but sometimes with the same end result they start to go back to places they used to drink/use. Or they hang out with people active in drug use/alcohol use. We tempt fate the more sobriety we have. We get comfortable with the idea of “I can handle it”.

But the fact of the matter is, we alcoholics and addicts (I’m actually a cross addict, having been addicted to several different drugs and alcohol) can’t handle it no matter the length of our sobriety. But it gets tempting at times, I won’t lie. In 20 years from now, I will still feel the temptation to take just one more drink/hit/toke/hot rail/bump...

It seems extreme since Jackson played 15 games at a quality level.

Like others have already related, congratulations on not only your sobriety, but also on your choice to help others that have thus far not been so fortunate.

I have known the founder of The Meadows in Arizona for years, and have worked with patients with all sorts of addiction. It is not an easy task. Large scale studies have shown that any addiction that includes alcohol is one of the toughest to avoid relapse. Accepted facts are that over 2/3rds of people who are abstinent less than 1 year will relapse. For those who achieve a year of sobriety, less than half will relapse. If 5 years of sobriety can be achieved, the chance of relapse is less than 15 %. There are many factors that can affect relapse of which a "fresh" environment is near the top of the list.......but at the very top of the list is maintaining recovery-oriented program following release from rehab....................banned1976, you've accomplished this and much more. Again, my hat's off to you for what you personally have worked to overcome. :tiphat:
