Takeaways from the Broncos game.

@ChronBrianSmith: O’Brien said he told Texans postgame they all need to look in mirror, self critique.
Stressed several times team is in it together and it’s not on one person. Ultimately begins with him.

@riversmccown: O'Brien when asked if consistency was holding the team back: "No doubt ... I feel like we have a ton of consistent people on the coaching staff and on the team, but we don't play consistently ... I think that's a fair criticism ... and that's a reflection of the head coach." https://t.co/AgFHlVIAEn

Uncle Rico is a witch this week. He was suspect of the defense and always loved him some KJAX. Well, I was ok with letting him go and thought the defense would be ok, not great, ok. What a turd show. It will not ruin my weekend as my boy married one of the best ladies on the planet this weekend so this is just a game, but uggh. All I could think of is Winston throwing for 5 hundy against this secondary

Putrid performance all the way around. Not one player stood out in a positive way. But again, I’m just not surprised or shocked anymore when the Texans play these types of games. I can’t even remember which year it was the Texans lost to a terrible Giants team, it was during BoB’s tenure and that game was the last time I was surprised by a pitiful Texans performance. Since then, they could lose to a high school team and I’d think “that figures”.

The Texans defense was completely horrible in this game. The Broncos scored on their first 5 drives. The Texans defense did not get a stop until there was only 2:37 left in the 3rd QTR.

Broncos Drives
1. TD
2. TD
3. FG
4. TD
5. TD

Plus to add insult to injury they had a fumble recovery for a TD.

I also did not agree with the decision to go for it at the end of the half. But if you do go for it at least put a damn running back in the backfield.

Slow starts and 1st halves need to stop. RAC's days are over. He couldn't scheme today to save his life. Our last three games are going to be rough. Division games are always close. Always. And the Bucs? They can score 50 points on us if we don't get our minds right.

My takeaways:
  1. It's now over 30 games where the offense starts slow in the first quarter. It appears the Texans have no clue how to address their first quarter problems
  2. Mercilus is a JAG. I always wondered why the Texans could never get Clowney, Watt and Mercilus to be productive at the same time. Now, I know. He's a JAG.
  3. For years, knowledgeable fans wanted Jackson to be moved to S. Kudos to Kareem. He had a hell of a game
  4. I wish these players would stop coming out in these ridiculous outfits. It seems they are spending more time on their outfits than the game plan
  5. I thought Stills was the guarantee for when Fuller is out. How does Coutee get more targets than Stills?

This is who we are gentleman is my takeaway from this game. They just don’t have what it takes to be one of the elites teams in the NFL. They are undisciplined, not coached up and flat out uninterested to start these games. This crap starts with coaching period/ point blank. Some will throw out some valid points towards certain players. Rightfully so might I add. But when you continue to see the same crap every got darn year. THAT FREAKING COACHING!!!!

Terrible game today, so freaking embarrassing

Wore my Texans shirts a couple times last week. Not so much this week, maybe not the rest of the year if the Tennessee Titmice go out and take the division from us. "Flat Bill" O'Brien/Texans player: "We beat the Pats on natl TV, that's good capital for the fans and owner for a few games. Showing good potential is enough. Maybe we can get the Rockets' analytics dept. to show how missed calls and injuries kept points and wins from us unfairly."

Last year, Frank Reich proved a better coach in his 1st year than 5-year coach Flat Bill. Will Vrabel in his 2nd year, with Tannehill? Texans: "Eh, we laid another egg in front of our fans in the playoffs. It's happened before. No one's watching these 1st round games except our fans, and they're just Houston."

[Side note: I was happy the trick play worked last week, but it came with the Texans already up solidly, so it was less of a risk. But I also immediately worried that its success would embolden O'Brien to take even more stupid risks than he already does, and he did that at his own 34 in the 1st half today. When your success rate taking gambles is, what, about 1 in 5, just stop. It's a mental issue with Flat Bill--a gambling addiction where he thinks because he hit 21 the last hand, it's fated to happen again the next time.]

This team definitely plays complimentary football.

They are either all good or all suck.
I've always thought "complimentary football" was just a meaningless buzz word. What exactly does that mean & how is it any different from "regular football".

I've been watching football pretty seriously for 45 years & as far back as I can remember the defense has always tried to stop the other team & the offense tried to score.

I guess one difference is that if you are playing "complimentary football" the coach can go around yelling "Now that is what I call complimentary football".

Plus it comes in handy in press conferences.

It's probably like time management. I just can't understand because I'm not in football.

My take away is that there is way too much talent on this team to get their asses handed to them by a bad Broncos team with a QB in his second game.

I know some still believe in O’Brien but it’s on the coach to get talented players in a position the win. The game has passed our DC by, and the Offensive Genius HC can’t score points until the team gets down by 2-3 scores.

For me I’m a casual fan until their is a regime change on Kirby, I can’t take the highs and lows.

It's what you say when your offense sucks, your defense is good, and you billed yourself as an offensive genius

Titans are playing great. The Texans really needed to win this game to keep some breathing room between them and the Titans. Nothing is ever easy with this team.
Yes and now, it being "must win" for tge Texans... their odds are better they fail than succeed and I am NOT okay with a Titans led AFC South. Jags, livable. Colts, used to it....

Titans.... its..just an unspeakable abomination... especially when the Texans could have all but banished the Titans hopes.... instead... the gave the Titans all the more motivation to play hard next week.

Hopefully the old curse is stronger than the new one and the Titans fail miserably next week.

That game is going to be a let down like OB’s offense or Rac’s defense.

My takeaway is that the Texans royally screwed up by giving away two first round picks for an average LT
Is he average... or is he intentionally doing stupid stuff so the Texans dont keep him around and he gets to go back to Miami while they use our picks.....maybe that is why they didnt revolt as threatened.

Dont mind me, most of my head wear is made of tinfoil.

He was also praising how great RAC and how so many people here are too hard on RAC and don’t appreciate him enough with what he has done with the defense.

I would not put that guy up as clairvoyant.

3rd and 1. You have to know you will go for it on 4th if you don't make it. It's called planning ahead. You run. If you pick up a half yard you run again on 4th. You do not come out throwing from that friggin' empty backfield formation both times. The insane asylum is too good a place for a coach that stupid.

Or the JJ Watt's and DeAndre Hopkins.

Works both ways.
Of course it does. My point is, drafting is a bit of a gamble and when you average out your DHops and Okoyes, Tunsil wouldn't be a disaster.

I still endorse the trade. It's not nearly as bad as some make out. And I can see the counter-argument that trading up in 2020 for an LT would cost similar and may only yield the same result.

The real error in my view was in not negotiating a contract extension as part of the trade.

I was wondering if the team would go backwards after that big win. We left in the 3rd quarter when it was obvious that we were not going to win. It looked like they had spent the whole week patting themselves on the back for the Pats win instead of building on it. It's a normal reaction for a team without previous constructive feedback to feel like big shots, they should have been given direction by the coaching staff. Coach BObrien ought to take care of business. It doesn't look like he did that this week.

Same **** different year. This team gets your Hope's up then reminds you they're still not a contender. Every single time the team has an opportunity to to take advantage of something they never reach that ceiling and now we're in a hole again against a hot team who I think has a better coach.

The inability to be consistent kills all optimism no ones trusts the Texans and the narrative that we're a good not great team remains. Nothing will change either. So you're expectations stay at playoffs but never Super Bowl.

It's not even worth breaking down as I need a couple days to get over the "why bother when I know how this ends" feeling. Yippie we're the 4 seed now as I have to watch Shannahan, Harbaugh, Reid get more out of the QBs and teams and even watch coaches like Vrabrel, Vic, Reich do more with less. A talented QB can't elevate a mediocre long term. He can get you to the playoffs but you need more to reach the SB.
