Watson’s a top 5 qb. Do you agree?

Kyle Allen’s a rookie. No ones stupid enough to compare his to an established up & coming qb. Besides it’s not like he had a jaw dropping game. Carolina isn’t asking him to be god like unlike kc and the Texans.

So it's about wins and losses when you want it to be about wins and losses..

until you don't want it to be about wins and losses..

ya, I know..

I’m a wins guy. If the refs hadn’t of taken away Watson td. I wouldn’t be entertaining you right now because we would of won.

Watson went 11-5 injured with a bottom 5 o line and average hc and you want me to feel sorry for mahomes after back to back l’s lol

You guys certainly didn’t cut Watson any slack after a L and it’s showing again today.

Than next week he has a 5 td game and look who goes back into hiding.
Not even close to top 5.

40% of his numbers this year have came against the s h * t t y Falcons.

He’s pretty pedestrian against good defenses. Except when they go into the prevent. We see this every week.

Give mahomes a bad o line and he loses. Watson a bad o line, he carries your team to 11 wins.

Most definitely. That touchdown they took away from Hopkins was straight bullcrap.

That more than anything seemed to take the wind out of the teams sail. It’s no excuse and they had chances to make up for it but the rest of the game after every play I was expecting the refs to throw a flag and call it back so you know the players were to.

What makes it such a BS call is it was for QB safety but Watson took a hit anyway so if the play was already dead why wasn’t there a penalty for a late hit?

Wait ... what?

What's expected?

What question have you asked me that I didn't answer?

Not yet top 5 level but getting there. Just needs to get consistency going and I think that will take his game to the next level. It's weird, I have a lot of faith in Watson that I never really had before watching this team for anyone else we've ever had under center.

Watson hasn't had a consistent run game, a mediocre HC, bad offense line (that's slow and I do mean slowly improving), but has had good weapons to throw too in his short career. And most importantly, when he plays we win and even this season I thought was a 11-5 or 10-6 season.

Its hard to win in this league.

Very true and that's why I love watching him play and wouldn't want any other QB right now. Still, I can't help but feel like we haven't seen prime Watson yet which is pretty crazy when you think about it. I mean he's not top 5 yet in the best way possible

He’s the only qb top 5 in comp pct, pass td, total qbr.

The inherent problem with a top 5 list is it is a bit crowded right now.

In no particular order, I would assume most folks include the following: Rodgers, Brees, Mahomes, Wilson, Brady, and Watson.

So either this thread should be "Watson's a top 6 qb. Do you agree?", or, who do you drop to put him in the top 5?

Are we talking this year? Or all time? Brady hasn't been great this season. He hasn't had to be. if we're taking a longer view, given the revelations about Rodgers over the offseason, I'm not sure I'd include him. You can't be undermining your coach and changing 2/3rds of the offensive plays at the line and dodge blame for a 6-10 season, never mind what it says of your leadership qualities.

As of right now, the top 5 in QB rating (with qualifying attempts) are Wilson, Cousins, Mahomes, Rodgers, then Watson. Stafford, Carr, and Prescott are all right behind that, each with ratings over 100. Brissett has a rating of 99.3.

FWIW.

The narrative always seems to be something to the effect of Watson taking risk by running too much. Carter says here that Watson is going to have to run less as he gets older. Blah, blah, blah. First off, it's not the running plays we worry about. He gets hit in the pocket or trying to escape the rush while staying behind the LOS. Second, he doesn't really run that often. It's not like he's Michael Vick or Lamar Jackson out there. He runs some on designed plays, but when he's scrambling, he's almost always looking to make a play downfield and therefore doesn't want to cross the LOS.

It's just a lazy narrative. The truth is, Watson's problems stem from three things - immaturity (in terms of growing as a QB, comes with experience), lack of protection, and lack of scheme. If there are open receivers when he hits the back step of his drop, then the scheme is doing for him what it should. If he misses those reads or chooses to try for the home run all the time, then it's on him. That has happened some, but I don't think too much for a developing QB.

Mind you, after all those problems, he's still a top 5 QB. He's just going to get better and better.

Matthew Stafford can't win nothing in Detroit.

He just needs to be more consistent..that's the only thing missing for him right now. Tight window throws, accuracy when he's not being pressured, clutch factor...It's all there. But with Brady seemingly on the decline (Finally), Wentz, Garrapolo looking mediocore, & now Mahomes getting a little taste of what DW4 has been dealing with his entire career I think you can put him in the top 5...even without the consistency.

Wilson
Brees
Rodgers
Mahomes

Those are the only guys that i see as clearly still better than him right now....& that's only b/c.....they're consistent

That can be said about all quarterbacks.

Go check out the Brady against the Bills this season. He looked horrific.

Brady/Brees etc... Have proven they can string together 4 great games in a row in the playoffs.

Watson has proven he can string together 2 good games against lousy defenses.

Get back to me when he puts up great games in a row against the best team in the league.

The main reason I don't like Watson's style of play is,

1. It's unsustainable
2. He's most likely going to get hurt and this is going to be Schaub all over again.

This is called an opinion, not an agenda.

I didn't say he isn't special, I said he's going to get hurt and needs to be more consistent.

He’s 6th in completions, 2nd in first downs & passing tds. #1 in total tds. He’s playing elite and he’s going to carry this team to the playoffs without JJ because he’s the best player on our roster. Not sure why you feel he’s going to end up like Schaub when he’s trending in the right direction. Injuries? Every qb goes through it at some point. Deshaun will be the face of the league along with mahomes

His style of play isn't good for longevity.

I just put a post in the Silver and Black thread that better describes what I think.

Not in their first few seasons. Dude you really needs to stop it.

And repeating these same stuff is called an agenda.

QBs who are foot happy and like to run don't last in today's NFL. I'm glad that Watson is athletic enough to squirm out of situations and make something happen, it's a rare gift. But, if you combine that with deliberately called QB running plays your starting QB will have a much shorter life span in the NFL.

Russell Wilson seems to be doing really good. But I here you and you're right. My thing is Watson is not running the ball like that. He's taking more damage trying to stand tall in the pocket.
