Game 1...Monday Night Football...New Orleans Saints!

Would WR4 have been Smith or Carter? I guess either way I see your point. Still doesn't make it a MUCH improved team.

I believe he does because dude leads all slot receivers in touchdowns, receptions and yards. That's a big time improvement from our often injured riddled players who has played that particular position. Now we have a plethora of weapons even if someone goes down.

Much improved, maybe, I see in this order
- DW4 Maturation
- Better Oline play, end of year DW had guys at his feet and edge pressure
- Tim Kelly and his game plan and play calling
- Healthy and deep wide receivers (end of year we had nothing left)
- More mature TE's that can go out on routes
- Deeper RB class

Defensively, RAC will have to scheme and get his guys to play assignment football. Maybe we can actually do some man coverage. Assume defensively we will take a step back, but maybe the O can get some leads and make people one dimensional

Again, new identity needed as Watt ages and DW4 matures. Offense becomes heart and soul of the team??

Here's what everyone seems to forget. When the bright lights are on, D Watson shines. He's always good in prime time. Maybe the Texans got off to slow starts historically, but that should change this Monday night.
I believe O'Brien is feeling the pressure and knows he can't get off to another slow start and will be opening up the offense more then we've seen him in the past. He'll have Tim take more chances then the Texans have been know for. Drew, on the other hand, gets off to slow starts every year. He has a hard time getting into rhythm with his offense the first few games of the year whether or not he's playing at home. That has been the case since he first made it into the league. That won't change.
This game will go the Texans way. It will go a long way to building the Texans confidence and will lead into next week's drubbing of the Jaguars in the Texans home opener.
Get ready. It's going to happen.

I'm predicting a close game, but unfortunately a loss. Something similar to the Eagles game last year.

  • We'll go into this game thinking an inevitable loss
  • But wait, a ray of hope...
  • This new offense, may be legit with an OL that actually looks average.
  • Mercilus has a multi-sack game... Clowney who?
  • The Texans actually have a lead going into the 4th
  • But then dumb mistakes in the end will allow the Saints to take this one back. It will be a combination of someone making a bone-headed penalty, and BOB having a classic "WTF" moment.
After the game, no one's minds will be altered. The optimist will praise, "See! We almost beat the Saints at their home!" The pessimist will argue, "No matter what, this team will find a way to lose the big games."

Lather, rinse, repeat.

What will stop NO from just loading up against Watson and the passing game? Not a RB on the roster that makes you game plan for them. I love the optimism especially from the legend himself @JamTex but Im just not feeling it. I dont even think it will be close.

So no excuses if/when Bill O'Brien continues to suck dick then?

This is the exact reason that as much as I think the Texans were criminally negligent in the Clowney trade, and gave up a little too much draft capital, I can tolerate them because BOB has no more excuses. YOU WIN OR GET FIRED.

Good post. However, I will say they may not have as many boneheaded penalties because the two guys that had the most penalties are no longer on the Roster. They (Clowney - 13; Davenport - 12) accounted for approximately 22% of all the penalties we had last year (25/113). They added almost 2 penalties every game last year. Clowney definitely downgrades our defense, but he played undisciplined.

Unfortunately, unless we completely collapse, I think Obrien is back next year.

If we have an amazing year, Im all for running it back with Obrien, but if we are one and done in the playoffs (or dont make the playoffs), I still think he will be here next year...running a draft.

Had a dream that Watson gets hurt (dislocated throwing shoulder probably career ending) early in the game and is lost for the season. McNair says it’s not his fault and his job is safe. OB proceeds to tank the entire year hoping to get the number one overall pick without realizing he’d given it away. In an interview O’Brien say it’s still good value because the first pick in the second round round is basically a first round pick. One pick before our pick there is a very good QB prospect that has surprisingly fallen but instead of trading up to ensure him OB trades the pick along with JJ Watt for teddy bridgewater. When asked if he got fair value O’Brien responds, we do!

You have some weird and very detailed dreams my friend. Also I wish to God I could remember that much about my dreams when the long legged blonde shows up in them.

Here’s what I really want to know. We’ve been talking a lot about the line but I want to see what Watson looks like after a full off season under Carl Smith tutelage. The preseason games weren’t an impressive showing but I’m willing to write that off as shaking the rust off and preseason not mattering.

I think the idea the Texans are banking on is that it doesn’t matter if teams load up to stop the pass because there are too many weapons and DW4 is too good.

Duke and Hyde are definite upgrades to Miller
I don't see that. Miller did as well as any other rb could have done. Miller had to run up the gut and somehow carve out a whole in the middle of a weak O-line. Miller would fair much better running the ball in a system like Gary Kubiak had. For all the talk about BO'b and his intricate system all I have witnessed since BO'b took over the team is a lack of adapting to the players on the offense and utilizing their strengths. BO'b's worst enemy is himself and his inability to quash his stubborn pride and adapt as needed.

I agree with you except that Duke and Hyde are much better in the passing game than Miller. That's the upgrade. They both give Watson a good weapon out of the backfield. Both can run ok but Miller was better at running them both of the new guys are, but not by much. So it's still an upgrade. We'll see soon enough.

Dammit @CloakNNNdagger, where's my injury report with your analysis???????

I told y'all what happened and y'all didn't want to believe.

I was as guilty as some throwing off threads and there is little to no moderation. He finally said scerew this and moved on.

Our loss

With an improved OL the run game should improve by the 2nd half of the yr.

The Texans can very easily disappoint, and nobody would be surprised. The Saints could disappoint also as they have had some trouble at the start of the last few seasons. While I know realistically it would have to take a stinker of a season for OB's seat to be hot, I am curious to see if he actually does anything different this Monday night against NO. While these recent trades showed how ill-prepared he is to be a GM, it was at least something. It's all on him now to prove he made the right calls. We shall see....

After all.. it's up to the team to play, not the fans running their mouths and typing til their fingers bleed, that will decide their fate this year and one game will not dictate that outcome by any stretch.
We all hope for a victory. If we happen to lose a well fought tough contest against the Saints we can still look ahead with some hope. If however BO'b calls our offense like he has been known to do and our Texans get thoroughly whooped than we rightly won't be pumping sunshine and daisies and will have a reason to see darkness ahead. I don't think any of us will be at ease till our Texans make the playoffs and have some success in them.

Both offenses looked terrible, not just the lines. This is why your starters should at least play a half in the 3rd preseason game. Yes, injuries can and will happen, but good grief that was some terribly boring Offensive football last night.

If Brees plays like that Monday, we have a better chance of winning.
For the better share of the game last night both the Packers and Bears O-lines were over matched more than they should be. I realize the bears are known to bring a ferocious pass rush but last night it was more than typical. I think we may see a lot of low scoring defensive battles for a couple weeks. Of coarse I would not bet on the Saints offense being slow to start even though they have been known to start their seasons slow just like us. No matter. All I can say now is Go Texans!!!!

Miller was exceptional in the passing game. We just didn't utilize his strength like we suppose too.

We have a coach who has Ferrari’s in the garage, but would rather pull out in a Prius. Same with the TE position being a glorified tackle for this team. Why have a great back if the run game is just running into a wall 25 times a game? Pass the ball to the RB?? Whoa slow down OBs offense is still progressing through the 70s .. give it another year or two. It’s why I laugh when these guys load up on TEs. For what? 1 pass a game?

Because lol he doesn't know how to coach up his offensive line, especially the left tackle position. That's why he had to use his TE's to help out.

Disclaimer: he confirmed it a few days ago when he admitted to it.

Wow.

Miller was kept in pass protection on purpose. Not because he cant catch, not (necessarily) because ob didnt know how to use him.

He's solid in pass protection.

Ob had more then one Ferrari in the garage and keeping Miller in pass protection kept his #1 asset a lil bit safer...(watson)

Damn man, you'll be arguing with yourself before long.

I’m super tolerant, but when dudes get to playing d in the booty lube jokes or personal attacks I just got to a point where it’s better for my chi to block vs perpetuating an ignorant moment. Most of the dudes on that list are ok guys - we just didn’t jive with sports takes Lol no loss for anyone. And I’ll always have you speedy! Until you talk about me getting sodomized by Bill OBrien and all sorts of other colorful stuff! Lol

Saints teams also start off slow. Remember the Fitzmagic upset last week 1? Who will start out slower?!
As much as I want to believe this year will be different for the O'Brien led squad, I just don't see the Texans pulling off this W. The Saints will be better out of the gate in this one, I believe.
