Yes, a little relieved. Even optimistic, hoping Rankin and Kalil can stay healthy and start while Kalil also helps teach the new guys.Feeling more better-er now.
"Fixed" may be a bit strong, but I do agree that with + coaching we now have the potential to have a solid, respectable OL. That switches the focus to the strength and conditioning staff, Devlin and his assistants, and OB's game plans/play calls that hopefully set the players up for success. If coaching get their acts together , then I believe the oline is fixed.
We have no Center
Erm, Nick Martin? We have no Center
Fulton can play center, probably better then Martin and Mancz.
Rookies don't usually come in and start right away. Maybe Dillard would have, but the guys we got need time.
So the answer is no.
They may not start, but by halftime game 1 they will be in there.Rookies don't usually come in and start right away. Maybe Dillard would have, but the guys we got need time.

I like the sarcasm. Good one, made me chuckle. They may not start, but by halftime game 1 they will be in there.

LT - Howard
LG - Rankin
C - Martin
RG - Fulton
RT - Scharping
Davenport swing tackle and Mancz swing man inside. Kalil, Kelemete, and Henderson fight for last roster spot.

So you're saying he's not more talented than Davenport?
You said you wanted them to take OL in the first. They did, still you aren't happy.
I'm cautiously optimistic now

Remember 2016 when many of us were imagining what the offense was going to look like w/ Brock and all his new 'speed' weapons? How are they going to defend this? If they do that, it's going to open up this, etc. etc. I'm having similar feelings this off-season to what I had that year. Except this time, I'm more guarded, knowing full well that our coach may not be able to bring all the pieces together. On paper, this year should be different because we know Watson is legit and Brock wasn't. The biggest challenge this year is going to be getting the OL up to speed w/ the new pieces. By mid year, if we aren't seeing a significantly improved offense then I don't know how anyone is going to be able to defend BOB.The Texans have upgraded the talent/athleticism at both OT positions. Rankin moving to guard will upgrade the talent/athleticism inside. And Fells as a blocking specialist will give even more opportunity for success to the OL. That's just how the OL has been improved from a personnel standpoint.
Next we have the addition of Russell Wilson's old QB coach Carl Smith. He is going to fix DW4's internal clock and give OB a much needed 2nd opinion in the offensive gameplanning department. I predict we will have a lot more quick passes allowing DW4 to get into a rhythm and give the OL a better chance to succeed not having to sustain their blocks as long.
And then we give DW4 another weapon in Kahale Warring that can stretch the seam and cause matchup issues for the defense. Very excited about this prospect. One reason DW4 was taking sacks last season was because Fuller/Coutee missed majority of season and Hopkins was the only pass catcher that not only could get open consistently but actually knew where to lineup. Last year's rookie TEs will have a better opportunity to be used optimally and if Fuller/Coutee can stay healthy along with Vyncint Smith taking a leap there are a lot more opportunities for players to get open quickly so DW4 can throw with confidence.
I feel good about the OL heading into the season in the context of all of the above.

Agreed. My overall point was in regards to you being right about we should be much improved and BOB's out of excuses.Biggest difference is comparing Osweiller to Watson and Braxton Miller to Keke Coutee. The latter in each comparison have both proven they are studs.
There are levels to this game!
I was at "it cant get any worse" to begin the draft …. Now I'm at "at least they drafted the right position , maybe it'll work out."
Just don't like the idea of all these projects …. I guess the biggest issue is the lack of confidence in the coaching staff. What player at any position have they coached up ?!
I have no confidence in this coaching staff and I believe that sentiment is echoed by most of the old timers around here.
To answer the thread question, I'll change my "No" to a "Maybe".
The 8 ball says up to Devlin.

In two seasons, Gaine has added Rankin, Howard and Scharping. He is building the offensivne line from the ground up with veterans in front. Trying to bring a group with high upside to win starting roles. #Texans
Interesting. Sounds like most of us missed this about the Texans roster building philosophy. Kalil was no accident. Kelemente, Henderson aren't mistakes... they're integral parts of the plan. Not longterm... but the standard that must be beat. A low bar, but a bar none the less.
Starting day one was not high on their criteria. They're playing the long game.
Like it. Sounds great till dw4 has a season ending injury week 1.
Sorry. I'm a cup half empty kinda guy.

If Max Scharping and Tytus Howard have good enough camps, one or both could threaten for a starting role. I still feel Davenport is the odds on favorite to start LT. #Texans
Dude was drafted in the first round when several other players were on the board that would have instantly started for this team at other positions.
I expect him to start from the get go …. or they took the wrong player. They could have waited till the 3rd or 4th round for a project.
I think a project is usually a lower round player that you hope gets better over years. Dominique Barber may fit this. Developmental player is like a QB or corner that you let grow and get used to NFL. Davenport is that to me but got thrown into front lines way too soon. D Brown was developmental guy. We've never had that I can think of a starter that allowed time for a round one guy to sit and grow. So far it seems like Coach agrees with me on Davenport. We are beginning to act like a playoff designed team. I like depth I'm seeing with new UDFAs with RB, Dline and safety. This is how to become the best. Ancient history is just that. We may have just set our o line into place.Dude was drafted in the first round when several other players were on the board that would have instantly started for this team at other positions.

I think Watson needs to go to Lloyd's of London before the season starts to get a nice insurance policy. These long term choices are great and all, but if your QB doesn't survive it, what's the point?
Need a new C. Martin is trashIt's a good plan but I'm not sure Gaine had much of a choice. After all the O-line was in shambles when he took over with XSF, Lamm, Davenport's rookie year, etc... So, finding select pieces like Kelemente, Henderson, Fulton, and Kalil to help fill the gaps in the short term while selecting your long term pieces in the Draft only makes sense.
So, this season I think the O-line in game one could look like this:
LT Davenport, Kalil
LG Rankin, Scharping
OC Martin, Mancz
RG Fulton, Mancz
RT Henderson, Howard
What it looks like by the end of the season is anybody's guess!
