Texans random thought of the day

The Panthers have released CJ Anderson. 5'8" 225 lbs, 4.1 ypc over the last 3 seasons, 4.4 ypc career, 1007 yds last season. Just wasn't being used in Carolina this season with McCaffrey around.

He has to go thru waivers. Would be the prorated remainder of $800k so just $350k. I'd snap him up. Instant upgrade to Blue, possibly Miller.

Just for reference Miller is running at 4.2 ypc (basically off the Miami game, otherwise 3.6 ypc) and Blue at 3.2 ypc.
Isn't he a ZBS RB? I'm not sure he has enough experience in our type offense.
It'll be interesting to see if the Texans are flexible enough to take a look.

He was im Denver, not in Carolina. He's actually a little more of a middle runner than what they wanted for pure ZBS in Denver.
Oh I know him. Drafted him, late, for my F/F team. I thought Carolina brought him in for goal line duty. But they use McCafferty for that too; CJ hardly got any snaps so I dumped him.

I think he'd do fine here. He can catch and block.
As folks have pointed out, instant upgrade from Blue.

My question is more will the Texans even take a look, not whether or not he's worth signing.
This'll tell me if Gaine is really trying to improve the team.

At 5'8", 225#, he's built like a midget fullback. The Panthers wanted him to lose some weight to be more than just a one or two down RB.

While early on with the Broncos, he continually dealt with several nagging injuries, but never was seen on the Injury Reports. You might remember that in Week 7 of 2016.........against the Texans..........he sustained a knee injury.........never left the game...........ran for 107 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown. Two days later, he developed knee soreness.........two days later, he underwent repair of a meniscus tear. Tough mutha.

He came back strong in 2017. I agree, we would probably be very fortunate to pick him up. But I don't believe that he will need to pass waivers. I think that after the trade deadline, the rules have changed, allowing vets with only players with three or less years of experience go through waivers. I believe he is automatically a FA. [Even if he were going through waivers, since week 3, the inverse 2018 Draft order no longer determines waiver order................present reverse W-L standings now determine the order of waiver pics..........putting us at somewhere between pic 21 and 25............an unlikely spot to pick up any real valuable players like Anderson.

Well dang.....this is shaping up to be a great weekend. UH -vs- Tulane on Friday at 2100 on AFN Primetime Sports Channel 1 (HD). Texans -vs- Redskins on AFN at 1900 on the prime time sports channel 1 (HD). At least I can watch the game and be a better participant on the Game Day Thread.

Texans GM Brian Gaine Explains What He Saw in Wide Receiver DeAndre Carter
Nov 16 2018

“DeAndre is about 5-foot-9, 5-foot-10,185 lbs. He is a 4.4 guy coming out of college,” Gaine said of Carter. “Perhaps a guy that has taken a long road, a 2015 draft class player. He has played outside and inside at wide receiver, he has been a dual returner. And what I mean by that is he has been a punt return guy and a kickoff return guy.”

This season with the Eagles, Carter appeared in 7 games (1 start), averaged 20.4 yards per kick return, 10.3 yards per punt return, and caught two passes for 21 yards. The biggest value that Carter brings is the fact he adds depth to the wide receiver group, especially the slot wide receiver position with the unstable health of Keke Coutee this season.

“He has both preseason snaps and active roster snaps. Philadelphia made a roster change and for us at that stage we felt it would be an opportunity maybe to get a little bit better in the return game,” Gaine continued. “But also gives some value as it relates to depth at wide receiver because he has played inside and he has played outside and he does have four-down value as it relates to his role on our roster right now. We believe we are a competition program and the best players will play. We will see how he fits in but he was on the waiver; we claimed him from Philadelphia and we are adding him to the mix.”

The Texans depended on old scouting information on Carter entering the draft from Sacramento State and used that knowledge to build a bigger picture on the player they were interested in claiming. After checking all the boxes in that department, the Texans went to their pro-scouting staff to find out what he looked like on the field. A cross-check between Gaine and O’Brien concluded that Carter would be a roster upgrade.

“We rely heavily on our pro scouting staff and including our own pair of eyes between Bill and myself,” Gaine explained. “So, he had a very good showing this preseason with Philadelphia, got brought up to their active roster with some of the injuries they had. He played about 85% snaps of regular season football. Had regular season snaps here in the return game, in both punt returns and kick returns. We are excited about his potential.”

Winning when your suppose to win is a burden

Yep, it may be a trap game because the Redskins are so beat up the Texans should have an advantage, But being a Texans fan we've seen them blow games like this. See: Tacks game earlier this yr.

I hope we don't see much of Carter in slot unless he sneaks in somehow; maybe a hurry up play or something as he will get crunched. While stocky he seems to depend more on his speed and lateral agility than strength or breaking tackles. I like him as a returner.

We should get some help in our division if Tenn and Jags lose.

I can see the Texans "listening" to all saying how we should win and all injuries Wash has. Going 6 straight after losing 3 could puff up some chests and it isn't like Texans haven't done it before. Thinking "7-3 and facing Tenn, Browns and then Colts" could be distracting. It could happen.

Apologies for causing so many heads to explode with my definition of what could be a trap game.
See the post at the top of the page and the attachment.
Further explanation will be furnished to implode exploded minds.

Jags are done. And I'm not so sure I'd rather have the Tacks beat the Colts. The Colts are playing good football right now and that team concerns me more than the Tacks. I'd rather the Colts go another game back in the standings.

I'm not so sure anyway Colt safety Malik Hooker out as well as WR Tayan Taylor. I want both of them to continue to get beat and beat up. Texans at 7-3 and these two at 5-5 makes me smile.

Considering we are two up on the Colts, and have already beaten them this season, as well as we lost to Titans, I’ll probably lean towards a Colts victory.

That makes it look like the upcoming game is pretty important to the Texans.

I wouldn't want to be in the Jaguars' shoes. They're suffering the greatest collapse in sports history.

Really have no feel for this game largely because I know virtually nothing about the Redskins. The only thing I'm not quite as apprehensive about this game as I was for the Denver game because I know the Washington stadium probably isn't as tough for visiting teams since it's not at altitude.

Not expecting a pretty football game, while thinking the Texans will win, the Redskins and Texans are close enough where Washington can win the game on its merit as a football team, not just the Texans messing up.

The Redskins also have an attendance problem.

Indy beat the Titans by 4 TDs, wow how does that happen ! They gonna be really pissed nest week when they come to Houston.

Only saw a couple highlights, but it looked like Luck's getting healthier. He threw a near perfect deep ball over the middle and if that's back in his arsenal he's dangerous. The Colts seem to be finally recovering from trying to build around Peyton - speed, speed, speed and Peyton can make the line look great. Luck before injury was the prototype, if he's mostly healthy and on a real team, they could do some damage.
