Texans random thought of the day

Someone explain why we haven't seen Coates or Ellington this year....

...injuries...??

Ellington is on IR and someone here posted that Coates has shown buttered brick hands in practice... would like to see V. Smith get some time with Fuller out

Our offense didn’t look that good that game against the Jags. Our defense dominate.

Cowboys with better defense showed us our offensive problems. We got lucky they are a worse coached team than us.

We had problems against Tennessee and Buffalo.

Do you want to know the secret to beating the Jags? Rush the ball 30 times. Every time a team does that this year they have won. Their rush defense sucks, but the pass defense makes them look all that better.

The point stands and you have helped make it - our offense hasn’t looked as good until Miami. Let’s see what they look like against Philadelphia and Washington.
Definitely they looked the best against the Dolphins.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to get at though? They’ll look good against weak defenses, but not as good against the better defenses. Shouldn’t that be expected?

According to @ESPNStatsInfo, 24 of Deshaun Watson's 34 career passing touchdowns have gone to either DeAndre Hopkins or Will Fuller. Nice stat. But it makes you wonder if this also reflects to some extent to Watson locking on certain receivers and missing his reads. With Fuller gone, Watson will no doubt need to reverse that tendency and go through all his reads as appropriate. That's part of a QB's maturation process and his key to long-term success.

Natrell Jamerson and Mike Tyson Come Through for the Houston Texans Secondary

byPatrick D. Starr

Natrell Jamerson and Mike Tyson show up big with a banged up Texans secondary looking for answers.

Houston - The injuries continue to pile up across the NFL and the Houston Texans are clearly not immune to that situation. The Texans have been taking on a long list of casualties, with the biggest hit coming to their cornerback group after losing Kevin Johnson (concussion) and Kayvon Webster (quad) to the injured reserve, while Aaron Colvin (ankle) and Shareece Wright (wrist) have missed multiple games with their respective injuries. With the most recent injury to Johnathan Joseph, the Texans will now have another cornerback expected who will miss time.

In a pinch, the Texans had to use rookie cornerback Natrell Jamerson and second-year safety Mike Tyson to play significant snaps on Thursday night in their 42-23 victory against the Miami Dolphins.

Safety Tyrann Mathieu was pleased with the performances of both Jamerson and Tyson, filling in when needed most against the Dolphins.

“Continuing to step up,” Mathieu said of the young defensive backs. “Not the first time we have lost a starter this year; we have lost four of them, actually. This is rough. Guys continue to come in and make plays and step up. It is a pat on the back to the coaching staff to make sure everybody is prepared to play.”

Safety Mike Tyson is versatile enough to fill in at the safety position and also covers opposing players from the slot. Tyson has been waiting for his opportunity and made the most of the it the past two games.

“This is the type of league you have to wait your turn. When your opportunity comes you have to be ready for it,” Tyson explained.

Posting two tackles while playing 61 defensive snaps (92%), the most important things Tyson accomplished were playing his assignments and not giving up big plays.

Tyson continued describing his experience in Thursday night's game, “I am happy to have this opportunity and them to believe in me and my ability and what I can bring to the table. I am happy to be on the field now.”

After Joseph went down with an ankle injury early in the game, the Texans called up rookie defensive back Natrell Jamerson to fill the void. Playing 56 defensive snaps (85%) at cornerback, Jamerson had a solid showing for his first extended time in a NFL game.

“Young guy, was released by the Saints, we went and picked him up, kind of a safety/corner combination, looked like he got beat on a couple plays tonight, but then he made some plays,” O’Brien said of Jamerson’s effort on Thursday. “So, hopefully when we watch the film, we can continue to work with him and get him to keep improving. It looked like he made some plays tonight.”

I think that could also change a bit if O'Brien utilizes more plays that call on Thomas and Aikens. Both of the Jordans represent new targets for Watson should they be deployed.

Well we already know he can play very well in primetime. Didn't do half bad against Alabama.
Obviously. My point was more to point out that maybe it's rubbing off on the entire team, because normally the Texans crap the bed in primetime.

I am sure BOB will as the TEs improve their route running AND afford Watson some better pass protection. It's always easy to criticize the coach for limiting players and types of plays, when we have a blind vision of what we expect certain players to be...........while they may be in direct conflict with what they have shown in practice. Fans tend to want to think of many new players as great................until they aren't.

I have to see this offense against a better defense before I can believe it’s turned a corner. I think everything clicked, but it was against one of the weaker teams in the NFL and we should look that good.

With Fuller going down that takes away a dimension that’s going to make defenses have an easier time with us.

It’s in my original post you initially replied to.

Fans will be fans, hope eternal. Can only speak for myself in regards to NFL draft, but once over I pull for all the Texans selections to be successful even when in doubt.

I don’t think he missed a game in college due to injury. So how did you know he had durability concerns during the draft?
Predict he will play less than Clowney did/does. Speed doesn't kill on bench. Hope i'm wrong.

The information was out there on Fuller.
WEAKNESSES
Undersized outside receiver with skinny legs who is unlikely to make a living in the middle of the field. Hands can be wretched at times (see Boston College game). Body catcher with focus issues and lack of hand strength. Logged nine drops in each of the last two seasons. Feast or famine target lacking frame and hands to be a volume receiver. Needs to improve route savvy for underneath and intermediate routes. Won't offer much at all as run blocker.

"I hear the DeSean Jackson comparison and I can't get there. DeSean was faster, tougher and more reliable than Fuller. I'm not saying Fuller can't play, but I don't think he's DeSean." -- Former NFL receiver and current scout
NFL COMPARISON
Ted Ginn, Jr.
BOTTOM LINE
Fuller doesn't check all the boxes with his slight frame, below average hands and limitations with his game-by-game production, but he possesses the coveted ability to hit the big play and score touchdowns. My grade might be higher than some, but Fuller has the type of functional speed that can win deep and free teammates up in the intermediate passing game. Look for Fuller to come in and contribute early on as a third receiver. In the NFL you are playing with the big boys and you ARE going to get hit.

In the NFL you are playing with the big boys and you will get hit.
His hands have improved.

Watson joined Mahomes as one of the two QBs this year to have a game with more TD passes than incompletions........Watson last game>>>>16 of 20/5 TDs............Mahomes week 2>>>>>23 of 28 for 6 TDs. The QB to accomplish this uncommon feat was in 2015>>>>>>>17 of 20/4 TDs. Hopefully, neither follows Bridgewater's later fate.

Remember Welker before he was Welker?

I think that's what we need. Someone to recognize that special something in someone & exploit the f'kng crap out of it.

Just posted about looking at Hakeem Butler out of Iowa State. This guy is a stud WR who just happens to be 6-6 @ 225 lbs and runs a decent 4.5-40. Look at some highlights.

Fuller has proven this season to be a very tough runner. He grinds. Gotta give him that & improved hands. He can play with the big boys if his body will let him.

From someone who was not thrilled with the pick.

Fuller will always have durability issues but when healthy he is a difference maker. Gotta love him for that regardless of injury downside.

I agree with everything you say. His body has not let him stay on the field, that is the issue.

Desean Jackson of the Bucs has requested a trade. He’s be a great replacement for WFV plus he’s a stud on ST. Wonder what the asking price will be.

I thought that too until I looked at his contract situation. Over 30 yo*, 11 year vet, one year remaining on his contract ($10M). On top of that him and Winston haven’t clicked. For the right price I’d be on that.

Turns 32 in Dec.

Has he & Winston not clicked or has father time taken his share?

I honestly don't know .hadn't watched much football over the last 20 months or so.

Jackson wasn't just fast, he was quick too & that helped him get wide open. If he's still fast but not quick, or still quick but not fast, he may not be a suitable replacement for Will Fuller who teams had to account for.

It's not just WFV's speed that makes him dangerous. He's also a very good route runner & understands the game better than most.

DJax looked great with Fitz at QB; has disappeared since Winston came off suspension. Winston doesn’t throw a good deep ball IMO. Yards per reception reflect that.

Jacskon looked plenty fast/quick enough catching a 60 yd TD pass.

Hope to see more of this from the Jags.........less than 36 hour prior to an important game (and that's after a transoceanic trip)..............morons. The article did not mention that the confrontation with the club personnel became physical. Their bill wasn't comped..........but their potential arrest was.

Jaguars players reportedly ran up a huge bar tab in London incident

October 28 at 10:16 AM
The trip to London is going to be an expensive one for several members of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who were involved in an incident in a London club early Saturday morning.

Four players, members of the secondary, were detained and released by police after a dispute over a bar tab that the NFL’s Melissa Stark said totaled about $46,000. Other reports had the tab running up to $64,000. The players, safeties Barry Church, Ronnie Harrison and Jarrod Wilson and cornerback D.J. Hayden, erroneously believed they were not being charged for the bottles of champagne and high-end liquor.

“We are aware that four of our players were detained over restitution of a bill,” the Jaguars said in a statement. “The matter is being resolved and the players are with the team. Any discipline will be handled internally.”

Telvin Smith, Myles Jack, Leon Jacobs, Dante Fowler and T.J. Yeldon were also at the club, but were not detained, the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.

“The bill has been paid and the matter has been resolved,” the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo tweeted. “[The] team has said discipline will be handled internally.”

The incident left one former coach, Tony Dungy, now an NBC broadcaster, baffled. “Question to Jaguars secondary: how is it you’re 3-4 and you go out and party on Friday night before a huge game, run up a $45,000 tab, then don’t pay the bill?” Dungy tweeted. “I don’t understand!”

Quite the undrafted free agent find for Broncos. Outplaying their RB drafted in the 3rd round.

Would look a lot better on the Texans having Phillip Lindsey instead of Tyler Ervin

apparently we need to jump on the undrafted out of local college bandwagon. I know Keenum didn't work out, but Thielen undrafted out of a local Minnesota college tearing ti up, and now Lindsay in Denver, who does UH have or any other college local to Houston than won't get drafted lol

I think there's a distinct possibility D'Eriq King goes undrafted mostly due to his size. Teams will want to convert him to another position. If he goes undrafted, this is a guy from the Texans backyard who'd warrant an UDFA Contract offer.

Imagine him as a slot Wr/wildcat QB... would be dynomite IMO

I doubt he gets a gig as a pure QB

We had our turn. Remember Arian Foster?
