FIRE O'BRIEN NOW!!!

O'Brien has had multiple drafts. Just because he didn't like Rick doesn't mean we can't evaluate that he's done a bad job

It may mean Ricky was the one evaluating the players. It certainly looks that way after Gaine's 1st draft. Good news is we are going to find out after next yrs draft.

I didn't read your post correctly.

Still doesn't change the fact that rds 2-4 under Ricky generally sucked and Gaine nailed his 1st draft with picks Ricky generally whiffed on. Look at how many 1st rd picks are on defense compared to the offense and that will give you your answer as to why the defense has looked better. BTW, the defense hasn't looked all that great this yr.

The reason the offense sucks is O'briens personnel decisions, system, play calling and clock management. It's been the same for 5 years and you want another one after this.

The defense is top ten easily

5 yrs of Ricky calling the shots, why do you think BOB is still here and Ricky is gone?

So you think Rick, not obrien, wanted the new england guys? You think Rick wanted to get rid of the OL and TE he drafted?

I think they weren't on the same page when it came to the draft. I also think we're about to find out if this is true next offseason now that Gaine has taken over. Smith was from the Walsh WC system and Gaine is from the E-P system that BOB favors. Ricky and BOB never had the same vision.

I also think Ricky was more worried about things like being on the competition committee more than doing his GM job burning this midnight oil looking for talent in the draft. Which lead to 4-12 and poof he be gone. Which should tell you something but it wont. Time to move on and get ready for a winning org playing in a championship series tonight. Something we Texans fans know nothing about.

Unfortunately OBrien didn't get canned too. Now we just have to hope Watson survives his coaching

Except those pesky playoff appearances and SB appearance with the pats in 2011 says otherwise..

Not a fair assessment considering Belichick is hands down in my mind the best coach ever and same can be said of Brady.

I bet the Patriots could have just about anyone in the OC position and have success.

Also O'Brien left after 1 year and McDaniels came back. Seems to me like he wasn't cutting it

Get your knowledge up. McDaniels left after 2008 season and the pats had no named OC from 2009-2010...but it is widely known BoB was at a minimum assisting with the play calling in those 2 seasons before he was officially named OC in 2011..When they got back to the SB.
McDaniels didn’t come back until after BoB left the following season.

Widely known at a minimum? Sure. If he was any good he wouldn't have been only QBs coach and then kicked to the curb after 1 year as OC so mcdaniels could come back.

Read between the lines, he wasn't cutting it. And it's pretty clear to see why.

And no one else was impressed with obrien, which is why he left to one of the worst jobs, Penn State under severe sanctions. (fun fact: his offense sucked there too)

Then the dumbest owner in the NFL hired him because he used to be on the Patriots staff

wrong again genius...no need to read between the lines as this **** is easily verifiable on the internets.....maybe u should try to use it instead of making idiotic statements

What idiotic statement? Was O'Brien not a QB coach who maybe had some input on plays maybe followed by a single year at OC after which he was replaced by McDaniels?

The Mcnairs are truly stupid for hiring a QB coach when they could have had the head coaches such as the guys at the LA Rams or Philly.

He was the Qb coach and unofficial playcaller for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He was promoted officially to OC in 2011 & kept both titles....Sounds to me he was cutting it just fine for 3 years before he took an opportunity to advance his career....Again this **** is easily confirmed on the internet along with him reportedly set to interview for the Jags before he officially left to be the HC at Penn State. Don't know how it works where you work, but you don't promote someone who's not doing a good job .

But you go ahead on genius..tell me more about reading between the lines....:spit:

Wow, let's hire a QB coach who could only last as an OC for ONE year before he was replaced by the guy before him who was much better.

Besides, who cares what he did before? The point is he has sucked as Texans coach and this is all easily verifiable on the internet.

Still trying to save face? its ok, i'll let you off the hook for your stupidity. Good night sir.

Isn't O'Brien just about the only notable Patriots coach without a ring? And the rest of those pesky playoff coaches have gone on to do such amazing things as head coach as ... ummm. Wait, the first Superbowl in the Belichick era was 2001, has there been a success in those 17 years?

you want to call people stupid, but you actually believe coaching on the NFL level doesn't matter. You are obviously the result of eating lead paint chips as a child

"That's not my job".

He's good at mismanaging the clock and losing time outs due to unnecessary red flag challenges

You mean giving a team 2nd and two from the 7 yard line, instead of first and goal from the 5. Thank goodness he finally won one ... oops. But at least our unused timeouts transfer over ... oops. But surely using our timeouts on defense won't help our opponents in their 2 minute offense ... oops.

Yeah, don't think I didn't notice that he actually got one right at the Cowboys' game. Does that make up for the 12 others? Not sure

Can anyone produce a list of things OBrien is good at?

Keeping Crennel on board.

But seriously the only thing I've heard is that players like to play for him and they haven't quit. Although not sure we can really know if they like to play for him, it's not like they're gonna come out and say otherwise.

It's been a mixed bag so far. DB and Foster have said they liked him, Brooks said he hated playing for him and Lechler made some off putting comments, but who knows how much of that is him being salty because he was cut.

Still need an OC and OL coach, along with new OL players

You don’t think they’re aware of weakness and areas to improve via free agency or draft?

Identifying the right OC may also be in play but you don’t know for sure that’s going to happen, if it does, will be off-season.

I was driving during the game and listened on the Radio.

I’m in Florida so the broadcast was the jaguars home broadcast.

I was expecting a Homerfest but the guys really surprised me. Harping on the jags deficiencies while giving props to the Texans when they did well.

My favorite was when they disagreed with O’Brien’s “strategy” and “tactics” during the game. Saying what they would have done differently.

I agreed with them 100%.

The same weaknesses as they had last yr?

Sean Ryan will be the OC next yr. IMHO

Very much agree with this b/c it lines up with how BoB ascended up the ranks in NE. He was the de facto OC in NE the 2 years after McDaniels left but he was still officially listed only as the qb coach those 2 years. He didn’t get officially named the OC until after those 2 years in 2011. It’s plausible BoB is following this model with the young qb coach Sean Ryan...which means it’s also very possible Ryan is already calling plays as the OC this year...BoB has just not given him the title officially to keep the heat off of him.

If I’m not mistaken too, there was at least talk of Ryan becoming the OC this past offseason as well.

Even though we both know how things will probably work out, there's a poster on here that will ask for proof of how we know this. LOL

OB football doesn't equal championship football. Dude tries to manufacture first downs. Best teams in the league are attacking on offense

It's hard to attack with this OL. There's only so much scheming you can do.

With that said, I dont like the way BOB went into turtle mode in the 2nd half. You can get away that against the Jags but not so much against the Pats/Steelers etc...

Teams with great WR corps are going to give them problems also.

Dude after 5 yrs it's his o line. By the time he fixed it Watson will need a mega contract. Clowney will be gone next year
Valuable time with a rookie qb contract being wasted. I understand the oline
But what has he done to fix it.

Is he capable of fixing it.

Next year this D will be a year older

Clowney will be here next year. With a contract or Franchise tag

He wasn't in charge of getting the talent to fix it. Smith chose not to fix the OL in 2017 FA and sat on cap space that he got by trading away a 2nd rder to get rid of Os contract. With that said BOB/Gaine were in charge this past offseason and their backup strategy failed. If they make a trade for Humphries who I would give up a 2nd/3rd for at the trade deadline the entire OL would look much better because they could give more help to Lamm.

What I dont understand is Kelemete was a serviceable at LT for the Saints last yr when he replaced Armstead for a few games. Certainly better than Davenport has shown so far this yr.

On a side note, Holton Hill got an int for the Vikes this week. Harrison is getting better at LT for the Browns.

Too much to fix in one off season. Not trying to argue but it is what it is
