Which off-season moves would you like the Texans to make? (Roster/FA)

From Aaron Wilson’s twitter... Jo Jo gave us a discount:

Johnathan Joseph two years $10 million, $3.9M gtd, salaries $2.4M (gtd), $2.9M; $1.5M March 19 2018 roster bonus, $100K per game active roster bonus annual, $50K workout base de-escalator clause

As well he should. We’re signing up for the last few sips and all the fumes out of his tank. At this point you keep him at a discount for experience, locker room “glue” and continuity. We sent Cushing packing already. JJo we can talk about leaving next year if need be.

No, you "I would never take" people are entitled to your opinion but not dictating the conversation.

Y'all want to be snowflakes offended at the mere mention and go hide in a pft saferoom, so be it.
LOL seriously guys he has a point. At the same time it takes two and you are just as guilty of keeping the conversation going. Can we all on both sides show some restraint and just let everyone have their own opinion about this subject and move on to what the thread was supposed to be about. I come here every couple of hours to check on updates and have to read through 30 post about an unrelated politically charged topic. Thanks!

Since the merits of Kaep ended up getting discussed in the NSZ, here is my take (and DBCooper's):

I can’t argue with that.

I watch the guy play and everything seems like luck, like if the wind blew a little the other way so does his play.

Never was a fan of his play.

Sucks he’s been trashed for making a small statement that has hurt no one.

I'm not a huge fan either. I do think he is/was a QB that had to be accounted for or he would eat you on broken plays. Also a QB that needs a coach who can work with him instead of someone wanting Playdoh.

But dude did get to the SB and then CCG. Alex Smith's last full season he got to CCG, had 17 TDs & 5 INTs.

Again, not really my style as he does look like he can get blown off course. If we had Schaub starting, Kaep would be a hell no backup. But with DW, Kaep is as damn near an ideal vet backup as you're going to get.

RGIII would be also but he's more broken and frankly I worry my about his head because it's in the locker room. Is he dedicated at all ... and willing to be a backup?

Looks about right.

I keep waiting for Newton to be cut. Until he does, the possibility remains (and the staff know far better) he actually makes it back. That happens it might be Henderson LT, Newton RT, Davenport ST. Doubt it, but it's there.
Looks like an improvement over last season, just hope the pieces fit together and the new additions play up to their perceived potential. I want to see what progress Davenport has made in the off season. Won't know what we have until after game one of the regular season.

I keep hoping another player will surprisingly be cut that fits our needs and we sign him. No mention by team about Marquis Gilchrist; that surprises me.

Maybe just me but that looks like a nice solid o-line. Better than last years without a doubt.

It also relatively young and can grow as a unit. At least two of the guys have massive position flex when there are injuries and underperformance. Honestly, not what I would have done, but considering a week ago there was almost no way putting together a healthy even replacement level line.

FWIW, there is still Mancz, Allen, and Newton to consider. Now, there is at least, enough NFL bodies around where that 3rd round guy isn't automatically being dropped into the line-up w/o having to outplay a dude or two that belongs in the NFL.

In the roster moves thread.

Really?

Regardless of your (or my) political opinion, I truly don't think any smart NFL owner will be signing Kaep. So, let's deal with reality. Let's assume for the moment that Kaep is a dead end issue.

Who do y'all want for a vet backup QB?

And don't freaking answer Kaep. That ain't happening...

It looks a lot better on paper anyway! I'm not as skeptical as others on here about Davenport and I think he will make enough of an improvement to be a decent LT this season. I just hope the line will be able to jell early enough in the season, play well together as a unit, and avoid the injury bug. I think the pieces are there for a good O-line but maybe they are somewhat under rated or under appreciated by the fans. They will still take an OT in the Draft, probably in the 3rd rd, and maybe take another OG later on.

If they hit on an OT and stay healthy this could be an explosive offense. I would draft another OT in the late 3rd/4th rd. There are a lot of great developmental guys in this draft.

They will take time to gel, but by the second half of the season we should see some real progress.

My previous post stands.

You're better than this.

As does mine. You can't discuss the pros & cons in a no politics vacuum. You're the poster child. You've made not one football comment. He's a non-entity by political choice. That's fine. Others view him as a football player. You don't get to stamp out their discussion.

It's y'all pushing the politics that won't allow a player conversation.

As a player he is in a field of 2 for the best backups to DW. The other one dislikes playbooks and probably has a permanent codeine prescription.

Apparently you haven't read thru this thread.

In short, they went on the cheap at OL.

I like the fact that Gaine was allowed to sign Henderson, a great bargain if he can stay off of the weed. He's the 2nd best OT talentwise in FA. Fulton should be avg to slighty above avg. He's got experience starting at RG. Very strong, an upgrade. Kelemente, avg OG and still an upgrade over XSF. They need to get lucky and hit o an OT in the draft and the offense should look alot better next yr with a healthy Watson at QB.

Overall, I would've spent the $$$$ on Solder and Norwell. Instead of these 2 guys, but hey, they are upgrades.

I haven't studied Colvin since he was drafted and even mocked him to the Texans. I see him as an upgrade over KJax. But if they sign a guy like Boston, you could do alot worse than a Boston/KJax S duo. Wwith Hal in reserve.

if this team stays relatively health and gets a little lucky, they could be a playoff team.

Now that you've been brought up to date with my previous posts in this thread, lets talk some football. How do you think Gaine has done in his 1st act as GM?

I cant wait for the draft. Crawfish/Friends and fun football talk. i know how you feel about Houston, but you should try to make it down on April 28th and hang out with us.

New York thought he was worth the money. I'm sure Eli Manning and Giants fan is ecstatic. When you consistently suck at drafting you can expect to pay top dollar for free agents and now these guys are stuck in 'paralysis by analysis' over past mistakes in free agency? It's like a clown fest.
Was Solder playing in Afc champ game when Miller had free rent in the backfield?

Kaep has no merits as a player anymore. He lost his job to Blaine Gabbert. A guy who is so badly shell shocked that he has a tendency to close his eyes through his throwing motion. If Kaep had the right stuff needed to compete in the NFL still, then yes, I'd entertain the thought of him being the backup QB here. But he doesn't. Nothing in the world will overcome the fact that he lost his job to Gabbert to me. It has very little to do with his social justice priorities for me.

So far, they have picked up what I thought we needed in FA. One tackle, two guards and a corner. Not necisarily the ones I wash hoping for, but the right positions. Still need a safety and a TE. Repeat the same thing in the draft and we should be good to go. Oh, a runningg back wouldn't hurt either.
There’s so many ways to go from here. Personally, because of what’s left in free agency, I would load up on defense in free agency and use the draft for offense.

I’d go get a honey badger and a man named Suh. This defense needs some nastiness added. With 50 million still available we could do it. It would be nice to see the honey badger playing behind a front seven of
OLB Mercilus
LE Watt
DT Reader
RE Suh
OLB Clowney
ILB McKinney
ILB Cunningham

This draft is full of RBs and TEs. Give me Jaylen Samuels, RB, N.C. State and Chubb from Georgia and two of the top TEs in this draft and this draft boost the offense tremendously IMO.

Can you all stop calling him the honey badger? Maybe just "badger." I don't call other men "honey."

Just saying. Lol
