Which off-season moves would you like the Texans to make? (Roster/FA)

It’s not all on cops i will agree. But when you have some cops suggesting that we (Blacks) are naturally aggressive we are automatically “treated accordingly” which always leads to bad things.
 
I was interested in how the new NFL Cap could affect the Texans and their off-season moves. Of course they haven't made any moves at the moment but in my mind I'm going to give it a try:

When I was doing this, not sure how to factor the Dead Money which also included the current DM from Cushing , Strong and I forgot the other name.

If this projection is even remotely close, the Texans would have the needed cap space to pursue as many as three of these priority FA's: Solder (LT), Sitton (LG), Norwell (RG), Pugh (OG) or Butler (CB). There should be enough money to pursue additional lower cost FA's.

Seems like he came back pretty well from his 2015 shoulder labrum surgery. In 2016, before he broke his tibia, was slowed throughout the early season by a hamstring injury. This hamstring quickly reappeared in 2017 and continued to the end of the season. The worrisome thing is that his hamstring problems morphed into a "heel" injury (Achilles vs plantar fasciitis) in Dec.............both of these injuries following him to the end of the season. Could there be a good reason for the Seahawks to be so willing to part with Thomas besides their lack of draft picks?

That's what I was thinking, but preferred a more professional diagnosis. Would a good offseason of rehab help or do you think it's become a chronic type of an injury with the hamstring?

Texans especially "overpay" for a good not great OLT because of extreme need and limited market. This expectation is in alignment with much that has been talked about on this board at least

When Solder plays for the Patriots, Brady can help tremendously b/c of his quick read and release...so he looked better than average. My thinking, if Solder signs with the Texans he could look even better b/c of the threat Watson represents.

Teams will rush and blitz Brady knowing he's a more stationary but lethal QB "if" his receivers are open. Defense's won't have the same level of comfort with Watson knowing he can escape and buy his receivers time or pull the ball down and hurt teams with the run.

Give me Solder and Sitton on the left with Mancz at C and I like the chances of Solder becoming an even better LT.

I'd be concerned that his hamstring and his "heel" problem may be come recurrent and progressive.

Who are you penciling in at RG and RT? I hope it's not Martin and Davenport.

I would sign Hubbard/Sitton and draft an OG. What Gaine will probably do is sign Solder/Kline and go with Allen at hopefully LG and draft an OT.

Solder/Allen/Martin/Kline/Drafted OT

Macz/Fuller/Davenport as reserves, unless Davenport beats out the drafted OT.

Davenport will be a disaster at RT, just like pretty much mid/late round rookie will probably be.

Many 3rd/4th rd rookies come in and start at RT.

Look this

New England- Marcus Cannon
Buffalo- Sentral Henderson
NYJ- Brandon Shell
Texans- Newton
Jags- Parnell
Colts- Haeg
Steelers Villanueva
Chargers Barksdale

etc... anyways a dependable OT can be found and start early. This is why I would probably pick 2 OL in the 3rd and let them and Davenport fight it out for the RT spot. If an OT fell to the bottom of the 2nd that I liked I would trade up for him and solidify the OL. Signing Solder would be huge.

Forgetting all of that if you signed Solder at LT and Hubbard at RT, then drafted an OG in the 3rd is the way I would go.

Solder/Allen/Martin/Dratfed OG/Hubbard.

I really would like to see what a healthy Watson could do behind this OL. If they hit on the drafted OG I bet Miller would look even better.
 
As teams leave the combine, this is what most think will happen starting March 12:

- Just about everyone believes linebacker Anthony Hitchens will end up with the Indianapolis Colts.

- There is going to be a huge market for Dontari Poe, and there are a number of teams he could end up with.

- The belief is that Andrew Norwell to the New York Giants is a "done deal."

- The same is being said about Kirk Cousins to the Minnesota Vikings- "done deal."

- Look for Weston Richburg, labeled as the top ZBS (zone-blocking scheme) center available, to be scooped off the free-agent market very quickly. As posted several times, the New York Jets will make a big pitch to Richburg.

- As previously posted last week, Trumaine Johnson is likely to end up with the San Francisco 49ers. The Oakland Raiders want Johnson but do not have the cap space the Niners do. I’m also told the Dallas Cowboys want to sign Johnson but, like the Raiders, their cap space is limited compared to San Francisco.

Not once did you read it' all on the cops. And if you don' understand what's really going on in this society. That's solely on you. We just had a white kid kill what 17-24 people at a school. The freaking cops didn't gun him down. T. Martin did even have a dang gun. Amazing on how you wanna call my people thugs.

I don't care if a player stands on his head with his middle fingers in the air if he can help us win games they better find a way to get him on this roster.

LeSean McCoy is 2nd at 8 mil per. So Bell has made 3 1/2 yrs of $$$$ in 2 yrs. Bell can buy a lot of pot with that much cash.

I really want Davenport to rotate with Solder at LT. No matter what the numbers say on a Solder contract, his guaranteed years will probably be 2 years. This would be an awesome way to continue Davenport's development without overwhelming him as a starter. He'll be far more prepared to step in as the starting LT in 2020 and it would be right in front of his contract year. Solid veteran in Solder and development player in Davenport for the next 2+ years would be the start in building a long-term OL.

Worth noting, if Solder is performing at a Pro Bowl level for the next two seasons with 3 years left on his contract and Davenport's development process has proven to be successful....well hell, I'll cross that bridge when that day arrives b/c that would represent a luxury the Texans have never enjoyed.

If I were to get my wishes answered on the left side (Solder / Sitton) and Mancz moved back to starting Center, then I could live with Martin / Fuller working as the C/G backups or Martin earning the starting RG job.

I've got one of two veteran FA's in mind for RT that won't break the bank but could represent a potential bridge for a drafted RT. If I got to make the decision:

Sign: RT- Seantrel Henderson (BUF) or RT- Greg Robinson (DET) to a simple prove-it type veteran's minimum contract laced with performance incentives. I think either of these guys would be a step-up over Giacomini....and might be a massive step-up, if Devlin could coax some their original promise out of them for a season or two. That's my hope since both could receive better offers b/c of the pitiful down year for OT's.

Draft: Realistic targets that could still be available in RD3 or later. I like Tyrell Crosby (OR) but even though he has the shape of a T-Rex he's put together all the right performances post CFB season and will be vaulted into an early to mid RD2 selection.

I would target:
OG- Colby Gossett (App St), Taylor Hearn (Clemson) or Will Clapp (LSU)
**My Hope: C. Gossett**

OT- Joseph Noteboom (TCU), Toby Weathersby (LSU) or Bentley Spain (NC) as RT prospects.
**My Hope: J. Noteboom**
**B. Spain would be RD6 or RD7 luxury pick or could very well be had as an UDFA according to some sites. Like I've stated before, I'm thinking he's going to have a fairly decent NC Pro Day and his stock may get a bump. Regardless, I could stash him on the PS with no fear of losing him during the development process.**

The Texans would still have, OG- Chad Slade (Auburn), OG- David Quessenberry (San Jose St), OT/OG- Kendall Lamm (App St) and OT/OG- Jake Rodgers (Eastern Michigan) in camp competing for roster spots or spots on the PS.

They're waiting for guys to get cut. They don't really have draft picks to trade. (Thanks Ricky) Hopefully Gaine will be making big time moves in FA to fix the OL/Secondary. He certainly has the cash to add 3 premium FA's and a couple of lower level FA's.

IMHO, it would be a major mistake to go after Sherman. He now has a ruptured Achilles tendon and has had two surgical procedures on it. Very, very doubtful he is even remotely a shut down corner anymore.

The expectation from people around the league is that Solder, who's the top tackle on the market, will end up taking a little bit less than market value to return to the Patriots. A deal like this would slot him in ahead of Tyron Smith and behind guys like Trent Williams and Terron Armstead at the top of the market, but he could get as much as half the deal guaranteed.

12. Trumaine Johnson, CB | 2017 team: Rams | Age: 28
Projected contract: Five years, $77.5 million

A whopper of a deal that would put Johnson atop the cornerback market. But hey, he has already been there the past two years on his franchise tags, and with cap-rich teams like San Francisco and Cleveland in need at the position, Johnson looks set to cash in big. Johnson and agent Joel Segal have wisely waited out the franchise tag process (a la Cousins and agent Mike McCartney at the top of this list) and are in position to set new market benchmarks at the position as a result.

Pugh's ability to play guard or tackle should appeal to teams that need versatility and depth on their offensive line. If a team sees him as a starting tackle, his price could go even higher.



There has been some chatter about the #Texans and OT Nate Solder being a match.

I could see it. LT is a need, they have the cap space, it's closer to his home state of Colorado, and if the family needs it for Hudson, Texas Children's Hospital an elite pediatric cancer hospital.

Here are a few players I would like to see for the OL. I think some of them we can get at a bargain. Solid upgrade without breaking the bank. Solder is the main one I'm a little worried about though.

Josh Sitton, Guard - N/A – PFF grade = 86.0 High Quality
Nate Solder, Left Tackle – 2 years $26,561,515 ($13.2 million annual) – PFF grade = 75.7 Average
Justin Pugh, Guard/Right Tackle – 4 years $25,605,567 ($6.4 million annual) – Versatility: Can play G or RT



Offensive Line trade targets (These players were rumored to be traded)

Ja’Wuan James, Right Tackle, Miami Dolphins - $9.3 million left on his contract – PFF grade = 80 Above Average
Cordy Glenn, Left Tackle, Buffalo Bills – Cap hits of $14.4, $12.4, & &12.7 million left on his contract

*Also, I think moving Jeff Allen back to his natural position at left guard will help big time.

Add TJ Carrie (Raiders) to the list as "good value" FA CB.
