Which off-season moves would you like the Texans to make? (Roster/FA)

Trey Burton would be a real nice pickup. And cheaper than Graham and such.
@RapSheet

With the #Eagles stocked at TE and dealing with cap considerations, free agent Trey Burton is expected to leave Philly. He had 16 teams check in on his status this week, and he’ll have a strong market.

9:58 AM - 3 Mar 2018

Losing Burton is a bummer for the Eagles since he was a great backup to Zach Ertz to have around. He’s also been a key special teams contributor for the Birds. Also he threw a touchdown pass to Nick Foles in the Super Bowl, which is a game that the Eagles won.

I would try to get both Joyner and Reid at safety. Having 2 interchangeable safeties who can cover and tackle will make up for the corner play. Also Serafin Jenkins and Kline would be my other 2 must haves. With a qb like Watson, I want the inside triangle secure more than the outside. He can feel the outside rush very well.

Thank you for this update. Let’s hope a new Texan Star is born!
In the 2017 offseason, he underwent shoulder surgery. It was described as a "clean out." However, last year turned out to be the worst of his career..............PFF rating of 49.5 with a DL ranking of #109. With this chronology of events, I would be concerned that his "clean out" may have substituted a "repair," which would have had greater implications and a much less predictable and much longer recovery.

Screw that! We need to go after some Safeties and Corners before we even begin to think about Nose Tackles. Hell, I’d rather Gaine go after the best Guards and or Tackles available before goong after defensive backs but whatever the experts say is best....

I would love to see the Texans get a bad ass safety. That is one position this team has never really had a kick-ass badass player at. Sorry if I offended all of the Von Hutchins and Matt Stephens fans. :tiphat: :littlelol:
I know it's not the only position, but it's the one that sticks out the most in my opinion.I do not count Ed Reed. Marcus Coleman, Glover Quin, and Quintin Demps are the best safeties they have had. Hell, they only had Demps for the two seasons so that doesn't really qualify I guess. Then, Glover Quin, didn't spend the majority of his career here. Bernard Pollard could dance, but could not cover George H.W. Bush in flag football if it depended on his life. Too bad Steve Atwater, Ronnie Lott, Jack Tatum, or heck even Willie Wood had any phenoms in their bloodline coming anytime soon.

I'm good with KJ moving to S. He's a damned sight better at tackling than covering outside receivers.

Problem is everything cant be fixed in 1 offseason.

Spend big $$$$ on fixing the OL, draft a CB or 2, bring back JoJo/Demps and I think the defense will look alot better.
The defense will look better by getting Watt and Merci back. I still want to see KJ at S. Drafting a CB is fine for depth and STs, but would you really expect to get a starting CB in the 3rd round or later? I'd be looking hard at FA CBs as well as OL.

The most glaring holes on this team are in the Secondary and Oline. That should be priority #1 and #1a.

The top priorities don't mean ignore other things. IMO, it is not like the Texans don't need actual depth in the DL.

I don't think Eric Reid would be welcomed here. But if it was me I'd go after him.

I believe Holton Hill can start early in his career.

Bring back JoJo and Demps.

CB's JoJo/Hill/KJo/KJax
S Demps/Hal/KJax/Pleasant.

A much better/deeper secondary.

Agree about not fixing this side in one offseason, but I do think it can still be a playoff team with the addition of 2 key personnel on the oline and in the secondary.
This notion is contingent upon Watt being 90% and staying on the field and DW4 continuing in the same vein as we saw last season.
We are due a fairly healthy season.

It will be but under our current circumstances, it will be very challenging. Those three picks in the 3rd round will be very pivotal. Hopefully all three players will contribute right away.

Hopefully it won't come that - if they can pick up three FA's, we won't have to rely on rookies and can bring them along appropriately.
If they can contribute immediately, then all the better.

Virtually everyone speak to views FA O-Tackle market as weak and concedes its top FA Nate Solder will land w/ #Texans at $11-12M+ per Yr even at 30 Yrs Old. Speaks to Tackle need across NFL and lack of options in FA/Draft.

I'm good with this. Make it a short term, front loaded contract that secures Solder a good amount of $$ and allows Davenport to apprentice at LT. I don't want to waste time at RT with him that could stunt his growth at LT.

"I spoke with 2 NFL agents this week who said word is the #Texans aren't interested in any players who participated in pregame kneel-downs in protest of police brutality." https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/columnists/solomon/article/Texans-would-miss-out-if-they-aren-t-interested-12726004.php …

dumb and dumberer if true. Hold that opinion, as an owner, but share it with no one. Just shoot down signing anyone that did protest. This feels like fake news to me.

Non racist people tend to think that way. They don't view things through the prism of racism. Racially tone deaf doesn't mean racist. It means they say things that seem racially tone deaf or indifferent due to indifference or lack of nuance/knowledge. To explicitly exclude players that protested the National Anthem because of alleged police brutality is another thing, all together. That recognizes the racial overtones and puts the owner in a bad light. Black GM for 12 years, black QB, blah blah blah. How about assholes and jackasses come in all colors and creeds. The ******* media has an agenda and won't quit until it gets its way.

The Texans are dumb to eliminate talented players from their free agency shortlist or draft board just because they had the audacity to protest people of color being victims of police brutality.

Just insanely stupid as a team to not try to acquire the best players possible.

I really hope that stuff is fake.

expecting a 3rd rounder to contribute right away in a meaningful way is pretty optimistic

Agreed... This is the same owner that immediately opened up his brand new facilities for the the Red Cross to host tens of thousands of Katrina refugees. Solomon is close enough to the team and McNair to know better. I agree that McNair is prudish and tone deaf, but it is irresponsible to insinuate more than that. I suppose Jerry Jones is morally superior to McNair, according to Solomon, because he shares cocaine and strippers with black athletes (and white)?

"my body, my choice"

I don't want distractions either. Let them go play for the Seahawks with Duane Brown if they're more concerned with social stature than their profession.

This team has had enough distraction bullshit over the years especially with their severely incompetent, vastly overrated coaching staff. Last thing I want to worry about after 5 years (at least) straight of inept garbage product is what these players are concerned with outside of football.

I've seen plenty 3rd rounders and later round picks contribute right off the bat. We've also seen UDFA contribute right as well. And besides I said hopefully.

Some fans go way overboard with their dreadfull thinking. Let that nonsense come knocking at your door and watch how you change up your beliefs around this joint. At least these players are making a stand for something that's real. Police brutality has gotten way out of hand folks.

It's a vicious cycle. Inner city minorities acting like thugs to get "street cred" get all pissed off when they're treated accordingly. You can't sit back and say it's all on the cops.

Been told by a few teams the #Seahawks had open ears at the #NFLCombineLike. Seattle trade commodities drawing interest: defensive tackle Michael Bennett and safety Earl Thomas. Nothing imminent. But hearing Seattle would like to remedy having zero draft picks in 2nd and 3rd round.

1:10 PM - Mar 5, 2018

Be aware, that although not much has been made of this injury, at the end of the 5th game of last season, Bennett was diagnosed with a "heel injury." In fact, this was a case of plantar fasciitis. This is an injury that is typically recurrent and progressive despite prolonged rest and rehab, and has brought many players to the end of their careers. In the 5 games prior to his injury, he registered 4 sacks. The 6th week allowed Bennett some extra time to rest and rehab since it was a Bye week for the Seahawks. In the remaining 11 games, he managed only 4.5 sacks...........and with only 2 of those coming in the last 8 games..........and only 1 of those coming in the last 5 games.
