Official Half Assed Game Day Thread for a Half Assed Team - Bengals v Texans

I think I prefer Nuk as a football player, I love his aerial ability and glue like hands.

AJ was a physical specimen, a real beast but I'd take Nuk's receiving ability over his.

I'd probably also say Nuk isn't the route runner AJ was yet.

PNJ4Ay5.gif

That was such an idiotic throw by Dalton. That's the type of throw that would create a 10 page thread on how terrible our QB situation is on TT.

Ok, lets not start feeling our own jocks.

The Bengals absolutely choked this game away. How many drops did their key receivers have?
I can think of at least 3 crucial ones.

While it is nice to actually win a game against a quality opponent, we need to realize that
no other team in the NFL is going to crap their pants like this again for the rest of the
season.

Lets build off of the momentum, but realize what the limitations actually are..

We got BIG questions after these past two games that need to be asked...

Does Kareem get his starting job back? Or maybe JoJo? All I know is we need Kjo to be on the field!
Does JD get his starting job back as the Jack over Whit?
Will we ever see Rahim Moore back on the field?
Are we going to continue to see less and less snaps for big Vince?

I think Jonathan Joseph seems to play better with KJo on the other side. That's just opinion from me. It just seems that way. I think they need to start working on their 4-3 looks to get Clowney on the field and/or start working him at 3-4 DE. I don't think you take KJo or Merci off the field the way they're playing. That would be a mistake.

I don't care if we ever see Rahim Moore again. He may be more talented than the guys who are playing ahead of him but he's not grinding and getting it done so he can't get past the lunch pail types on the depth chart. That's on him.

Great EFFING effort. The highlight of an otherwise lousy season thus far. Great

All that is true. It felt good to beat a good team though. We might not have this feeling again if the offense continues to stink. But this week it felt good to beat a team that isn't the Jags, Bucs or Teets.

Really sucks we won huh?

Cushing played a good game as well. Not as good as he once was, but he earned his spot on the field.

This is very true. Cushing was a player last night. He used to be a guy who was so good you could stick a JAG next to him and it would be fine. Stick DeMeco next to him and it was awesome but you could get away with any reasonably "not-shitty" LB beside him and you were covered.

Now you have to put another player with him to be OK and maybe McKinney is that guy. Cush isn't done yet. He's just not worth his contract (sadly, not his fault) and he needs some help but he can definitely contribute. Hope he builds on this game and keeps producing at this level.

I think we all know the Bengals choked it as much as we took advantage of the opportunity but hey, we saw our defense play a whole game for the first time in a long time. Defenses contribute to drops. You can't give them all the credit but they do contribute to drops.

And yes, some other teams are going to **** the bed this year. I see 4 more wins out there with the Jets, Saints, Jaguars, and Titans.

The only other "out of the question" game on our schedule is New England. Buffalo can and often does **** the bed. Indianapolis is not themselves this year. Even with Luck back in time for our second game in Indy it is not necessarily a lost cause for us. We get 5 wins and we could be looking at another 2014 where we go 9-7 and are on the outside looking in again come playoff time.

Meh. If J-Jo doesn't get over the top (which is rare), at worst it's a deep overthrow.

I doubt that. I've seen too many meltdowns on otherwise good teams this year.

The Defense performed up to their ability. Sure, Dalton had drops (more than we did), but it's not like he had an effective running game to fall back on. As sad as the Texans running attack was, it beat the Bengals attack. without Dalton's scrambles, it was abysmal.

We beat an 8-0 team, on their turf, in prime time, in virtually every phase of the game. I'm in no danger of thinking this team is going to finish 11-5, but this wasn't a "fluky" win decided by a couple of weird ball hops.

Dude, if we go 9-7 we very likely win this steaming shitpile division.

The record doesn't matter. Cincinnati fans are just like Texans' fans. Impossible to please.

At the end of the first half of the Packers and Lions game the Packers fans were booing the Packers, specifically the offense. Even Titletown USA boos their team when they are playing poorly.

I would think that too but I'd expect us to make "our 9-7" out of wins against the Jets, Saints, Bills, Jags, and Titans while Indy would also probably get to 9-7 with a sweep of us built in meaning we'd be staying home.

That's if we even got close to 9-7 to begin with.

This team is more likely to lose to the saints than it is to go 9-7.
Anyone that thinks otherwise needs to undergo the same
concussion protocol that Hoyer is on right now..

Haven't you heard "real fans" don't do that. (despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary)

Why does everyone point out that we go ape **** happy with a win, but then call the Texans a dumpster fire when they lose?

Because we're fans. It's what we do. Jesus folks, get over it. LOL

What a great night !!! We went down along the front row during pregame and JJ Watt was throwing a ball around to random fans as he ran around the stadium. He got to us and I yelled for a toss to my 9 year old son wearing a Watt jersey. He ran over to him and handed him the ball to keep. Official ball with the Texans print on it given to my son by his sports hero. Great time for him and my Houston friends who came in town. Don't even care my boys choked again in the spotlight. A night to remember for sure. Congrats to you all on a great win !!!
That's awesome. He plays catch with the crowd every game. Nice to hear your boy get the ball. That has got to be huge for him.

Hoyer is awful. Good thing he was sent to the locker room because I don't think we would have won that game with him in there.

The formula is build a championship team. Winning the division at 7-9 or 6-10,
getting curb stomped in the first playoff game, keeping our front office and
coaching staff because of it, and starting next year with Hoyer would be the
punishment for all of that.

I want to start over, hire a football guy with the chops of Morey/Lunhow,
build through the draft, and go after rings.

This crap of lucking into the playoffs because of injuries to the Colts, and suckage
of Indy/Tenn does nothing for me at all..

Win the division, go to the playoffs.

That's the formula.

Tears in your beer.

I'll be celebrating when we win our division.

There's no guarantee the next regime would do any better.

Just win!

So "If you don't agree with me you need to have your head examined"?

Nah, screw you (no offense intended :) ). We spend so much time looking at our train wreck here that we sometimes forget that other franchises are steering train wrecks of their own through the season. The Saints are a mess right now. I think it's more like "Anyone who can't see that the Saints are a hot mess that's allowed over 100 more points than we have needs to get their eyes checked".

I think OB can see it too (That Hoyer is horrible). I was worried that maybe he couldn't for a while but I think he probably gets it. Now whether he can be trusted to do anything about it I don't know (He brought us Hoyer) but I think he sees the problem.

Yeah, here is hoping that he finally sees that needs help evaluating qb's. I love OB to succeed, but if he keeps plugging qb's like Kubiak kept doing with running backs, then it's going to be a long season next year.

You might want to lay off of the speed, freak. :kitten:

OB seems to thrive in those situations. Maybe the Texans should have a QB by committee, based upon the opponent?

Look, I am super happy that we pulled off one of the biggest upset wins in the
NFL this season.

But I cannot, for the life of me, see how this one game becomes a catalyst
for the Texans to turn the season around and become championship contenders.

For once in my life, I'd actually like to see a legit winner of an NFL team in
Houston. This staff and GM are never going to get us there.

I'm old enough to remember love ya blue, but those memories are starting to
fade. I want my kids to actually have the same sense of excitement for
the Texans that I did for those Oilers.

Right now, we're just spinning our wheels. And for fans to jump on yesterdays
win as if it was some kind of turning point in the Obrien era really frustrates
the hell out of me..

That is all..

Carolina won their division last year with a solid defense, more than questionable offense, and lackluster ST. Look at them this year...all without their star WR. Winning cures a lot of things.

Turning point? Catalyst? Christ, can't we just be happy that they beat one of the best teams in the league and not have it be a referendum on Bob McNair and Rick Smith, or tying an Oilers millstone around our necks?

His avatar suggests a great big "hell no" when it comes to Oilers millstones. lol

It's not any kind of catalyst by itself. If it does turn out to be one we will only realize it in hindsight.

I don't really think that the trajectory of either the Bengals or the Texans changed last night. Those games just happen and when they do you enjoy them. Now after they happen sometimes teams with advantageous schedules get on little runs but I'm not sure if the Texans could be said to be in that position and even if they are I find it hard to believe that they will be able to take advantage of it.

Going forward it's

Jets
Saints
Bills
Patriots
Colts
Titans
Jags

The last two are soft (sort of) while the Patriots are without any doubt going to crush us. Will the Jets beat us? I don't know. They're 5-4 and we're 4-5. We have warts and they have warts. Same goes for the Bills, Saints, and Colts.

We could seriously stumble and bumble our way into a 10-6 record if we catch some of these teams at the right times and they have every right to think the same thing of us. We're more than likely 7-9 or 8-8 at best but it's arguably in doubt. We won't know until we get there though. We're not good enough to pencil in any of these games.

I'd like to see a legit winner in Houston too but I don't think that's ever going to happen. We're going to be that team that eventually goes to or wins "a Super Bowl" but we're not going to get a dynasty here. We're not that kind of city and our franchise is not that kind of organization.

I am probably wrong though. I thought I'd never see Arizona go to a Super Bowl and they went to one. Chicago went to one with Rex Grossman as QB and a good defense. Tennessee went to one. I mean I guess it could happen. Would you call the Titans team that made it to the Super Bowl a "legit winner"? How about the Cardinals team? The Saints?

Teams get hot for a season or two and sometimes they go all the way. Sometimes they don't. We had one short run where we were a team that didn't. It was still winning football. The records don't lie. Warts yes but winning football.

I don't even know anymore but I know one thing. I like wins. I like seeing them win and I don't feel like I have the time or inclination to worry too much about how those wins come to pass.

Where mediocrity lives and fans are happy cause they can do their tailgaiting, drink beer and BBQ.

BTW, Congrats on the win Texans, y'all showed alot of heart. Heart that I didn't think this team had after being present at the Miami debacle.

Lol

It's mindsets.

In my world you never ever give up.

You don't hope for something to breakdown so bad that "maybe" you get something better.

You fight every inch with what you have until the job is done.

In my world, failure is not an option.

If that's accepting mediocrity, I don't know what to tell you.

I'm going to continue to name drop, because alot of guys need to be recognized tonight. Charles James & Brian Peters have turned the punt/kick coverage around!!! Loving their intensity on STs!

Max Bollough on STs as well.

Then Charles James made two great plays on defense. One, a tackle for a loss. The other, a tackle for a short gain, that brought us to a third down I believe. & the Texans defense wasn't having it on 3rd down. They got off the field like they're supposed to.
