Arian Foster reported to have serious groin injury

Next man up, MY ASS!

We're gonna lose, at the very minimum, 5 games because of this, but all you 'next man up'ers will blame either the QBs or O'Brien's play calling.
It might be easier if you just told us whom to blame.

im not buying this optimism. its over man. its over. we got nuthin on offense. game over. our one hope is gone. arian carried this offense last year.

I don't get this pessimism. It's not like Foster has been the model of health around here. Maybe we should just field 10 guys on offense and OB should go cry on Andrea Johnson's shoulder. Life goes on. Players come and players go.

The pessimism comes from the fact that the Texans are 2-12 the last 4 seasons in games AF doesn't have a carry, as opposed to 33-21 when he does.

Pierre Thomas is eerily similar to Foster. Both are gliders who will lower their shoulders. North/South runners with unbelievable hands. I think Thomas will fit in extremely well here. I know I will draft him on Saturday for my fantasy team :koolaid:

Don't understand the point of all the negativity. Yes, losing AF is a big blow, but now that it happened, the team has to deal with that. And they have by working out 3 RB's tomorrow. If Pierre Thomas is in shape and is signed, it would be an excellent option given the circumstances. Also look at the positives. He'll pretty much have the entire camp to learn the offense and get on the same page with OL and QB (whoever that might be).

When released, Thomas was said to probably be willing to sign for ~$1 million. With the leverage he now holds, it will probably be higher. Which makes me wonder about Foster's not so friendly contract, and how that works out if he ends up being relatively unproductive whether IR'ed.........or IR'ed with designation to return.

Agreed. It's hard to be optimistic when we haven't seen Hoyer throw his first pass as a Texan or Hop without Andre or our new offensive line together.

The defense is going to do their thing, bit if we're not scoring points... it's a wasted Jj year.

Question: do Texans employ sports science to prevent injury?

People wondered why Eagles sat DeMarco out of practice yesterday (hey I just do what I'm told was his response) when in fact it was revealed today they they test players for hydration before practices, he failed, which meant he couldn't practice because if not adequately hydrated it increases a players injury potential.

I know this new board will take some time to get down.

I think Texans will scoure the waiver wire come cut-down & steal someone stashed for practice squad, like Karlos Williams, Buffalo who is either their 4th or 5th back (actually think he should be third, based off big play ability & catch out of backfield). Certainly Texans have the means to make a big trade to acquire one but not in RS resume'.

While choking on fury over the Texans' injury luck I realize they're doing the best they can, although too late. Pierre Thomas would be my 1st choice of available replacements not on the team now. If they can sign him it might save 2 or 3 of the losses that the lack of Foster figured to cause.

If Christine Micheal is available as rumored he would be option #1 IMHO. Christine has RB #1 traits. Lets bring Micheal home. I would also bring in Pierre Thomas, he can be a 20 touch guy who is great on 3rd downs.

Well the way I see it, it's an opportunity for someone to make a name for themselves. Someone will step up or they won't.

This is the second year in on our new coach and system so to be looking for the sky to fall just because foster won't be there at the beginning of the season seems a bit premature.

I mean that is so surprising on this board. :truck:

Agreed but RS needs to change how he does business. He has to make a significant move to replace Foster, or chances are this team will struggle to go 8-8.

I like the idea but I'm not sure what Seattle would want in return. Michael is a former 2nd round pick.

AJ would have been a nice card to play right now although the Texans would have had to eat part of his contract.

Everything I've read is Chip Kelly is well ahead of the curve with ideas like that. Not to say we shouldn't be more in touch, we should, just using what the Eagles are doing as an example is a good deal ahead of what's standard.

Yeah the player we could least afford to lose is hurt. This season is off to a great start (not that I was expecting much out of this offense).

Maybe Rick Smith can pluck another player from the Packers like he did with Jumal Rolle.

If the Packers try to stash RB John Crockett on their practice squad, I hope the Texans scoop him up.

Training camp thread my post #104
"I really, really do not want Foster jumping over anyone." (in response to a prior post that thread about him hurdling a player for end zone).

Odd that I spent couple hours today reviewing RB candidates for 2016 draft. I see it possible for us to draft high for a change. Yes, starters can be found in later rounds but A. Fosters are not found every year UDFA or late rounds. I found out about 9:30 when a neighbor joined us talking by pool. I thought he was pulling my chain.

"I don't understand all this negativity and pessimism."

Gee, maybe it's because devastating injuries to our star players completely derailed our season every single ******* year for like, the last 6 years and it's happening again?

I just like this whole alternate reality where losing multiple star players isn't supposed to affect a team's chances and that teams should just magically overcome things. The Packers are the only team that can relate to us year after year after year after year.

Yeah, might be easier to overcome it when you have Aaron Rodgers.

Yeah we have to press on but ******* excuse me if we're fed the **** up at this crap happening all the time and express it JUST a little bit.

Hopefully Doc will comment on this from October 2014:

The latest? Running back Pierre Thomas will miss two to three weeks with a shoulder injury, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

Thomas left Sunday's loss to Detroit early with the shoulder issue.

On the season, Thomas has just 30 carries for 133 yards, but he'll be seriously missed in the passing game. Thomas has by far the most targets out of any Saintsrunning back, 29, and has come away with 26 catches so far.

Rick Smith is whack & O'Brian stubborn, not exactly a winning combination & reason why I've stayed off this board since the draft, now rest of season as long as it takes for McNair to wake up & fire his GM. Plenty of good RB's in last years draft to choose from why wait until the 7th rd. to address need/position with Arian Fosters track record? 2nd time I can remember in the first round when Texans needed to target a RB San Diego traded ahead to get their man. At very least there were some good values in 2-3rd rounds. Would really be nice to have a young stud like Tevin Coleman, David Johnson, Matt Johnson or Ameer Abdullah. :rake:

Sad isn't it, this has made me cut back on my board usage also. That and the 3rd grade penis size references. This MB isn't what it used to be.

If Foster is cut, we save almost $ 4 million cap space. Just saying Thomas could be a reasonable replacement and reportedly has said he would sign for one million dollas.:chef:

What's really f*cked up about it is the game day amnesia that happens regarding injuries. If games are lost afterwards, not a word is mentioned about how injuries might just play s part in it. But noooooooo..

.. It will be same regurgitated crap like . . .

Oh, woe is me, the play calling was bad, or...
Oh, woe is me, they played not to lose, or ...
Oh, woe is me, the head coach looks at this dinner menu, or ...
Oh, woe is me, we don't have a good QB, or ...
Oh, woe is me, it's the GM's fault, or ...
Oh, woe is me, blah blah, blah

Same ol broken record garbage.

Yeah. **** happens but sometimes **** that matters happens. Potentially losing Arian Foster (and let's be real, three or four of our other best players will end up hurt for a long time too cuz that's what happens to us) for the years is one of the things that matters.

Good lord yes. Big fan of C-Mike but he's got fumbling issues.

This may sound like it runs counter to my appreciation of Foster, but it really isn't. This is a practical observation: If the success of your team is going to be dependent on a superstar, you really don't want it to be a running back. He's the guy who absorbs the most punishment, and has the shortest career in the game.

In the post-Foster era, we will want a team that earns its wins mostly through a system and a coach, not so much an individual phenom (as nice as it is to have them). Football has a 100% injury rate, so relying heavily on superstars is risky. But if you're going to rely on one or two, make it someone like a QB who has an interest in avoiding hits.

Talk about turnabout. I remember distinctly when needing water was a sign that you weren't tough enough. 7th grade. By 8th grade, we knew better. Now they hold you out if you don't pass a hydration test. I personally like the idea.

Serious question, what is the test for hydration? A "pee in the cup" test? I've never heard of a hydration test before.

Good post.

I'd be interested to know if they have gotten past the pinch tests to test the elasticity of the skin as a measure of hydration. I was never really sure how reliable that would be.

I don't know. Maybe I'm drunk on preseason and the thought that football is back but I think we'll be ok. Just have this feeling. Sucks to lose a player like Foster but we've been preaching team and no one guy is bigger than the team. Time to put it to work.

Unless Doc or someone else in the medical field wishes to elaborate on this subject matter, just like the Texans, we're in the dark. Other than Clowney's post op treatments to stimulate muscle recovery these are all treatments post injury. I'm talking about preventive sports medicine advances (my son is going to Oregon in this field) to reduce risks of injury. Foster has a history of them stemming back to College & reason why he was UDFA.

Why some teams approach this issue more aggressively than others, when data suggests it's warranted is beyond me

In all fairness to Foster, he had 3 seasons where we worked him to death, i mean he has had a crap ton of carries. I blame is recent nagging injuries on the coaching staff pre Kubiak, hell and even OB drove him into the ground last season.
