The Pats drafted Brady's predecessor just a little bit too early. They might have done it again with Garoppolo.
Exactly. We may very well see this exact scenario play out in 3 years with Garroppolo.

An airplaine crahes on the US/ Canadian border. Where do you bury the survivors?
Have you ever taken a Wonderlic test? There's a reason they give them to athletes. It doesn't take much to do well on one.

Half of two plus two equals?
http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/sto...-reportedly-admits-past-drug-use-to-nfl-teamsOn the field, NFL talent evaluators have questioned Mallett's decision-making.
If Mallett is good as Y'ALL imagine he is Belichick wouldn't have drafted Garapolo.
Not sure what all this wonderlic talk is about. The average for NFL QBs (after being brought up by Fitzpatrick with a 50) is 24. Mallett is neither dumb nor genius in comparison.
HA!! I never suggested Mallett was good. I only suggested that he was no worse than any QB on the current roster, BUT YET has hands on exposure with BoB's system..... Probably the reason that the Texans acquired him (even after they tried to acquire him in the spring). Probably the same reason that he could / might be starting by week 6....
Same dumb argument. Mallett wasn't going to stay to be a backup.
i once took a "wonderlic" test......... Chris, guess my score??!!?! To be fair, it was higher than "6".![]()
I don't think you know that for certain at all. Mallet was going to go where he the market allowed him to go. There would have been no guarantee at all that he would have had a high interest from a lot of teams to have much of a choice. If the Patriots would have given him the best deal (Which they wouldn't have) then he'd likely make a business decision to stay due to financial reasons. If he had a strong chance to start somewhere that would maybe sway him to take less. Who knows. I highly doubt that Mallet would have had the kind of market out there for him to completely dismiss the Patriots as an option. There has never been any kind of demand for Mallet from any teams around the league.
How are you so sure of this? Didn't the reports say there were two other teams interested in Mallet (Dallas & Buffalo I believe).
I did a quick Google search and found this article written last year before the 2013 draft:
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/22138887/report-multiple-teams-called-patriots-about-ryan-mallett-trade
The article implies multiple teams have expressed interest in Mallet, but the going rate was a first or second round pick.

You mean that guy who gave up two 2nd round picks for a potential starter while kicking the owner's favorite boy to the curb? ...and went out and got Sage Rosenfels as a backup?Regardless of how all this turns out, I'm just glad we made a move. We did something.
If Kubiak had been the head coach, nothing would have been done. Nothing. Not only would he keep going with the status quo, but, he'd probably would reward Case with a big contract extension.
What generation would that be?
The most judgmental one.

Dallas went on record yesterday saying they were not interested
in "the Texas hammer"
We should have waited to get the guy for nothing -- why trade a pick?
I think that was just BoB doing BB a solid.
The most judgmental one.
Men shouldn't judge you. But men can warn you of God's judgement. But that is called being judgmental.
Hell is giving them what they want. The absence of God. And there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

They did get him for nothing....When was the last time a 7 round draft choice made that big of a splash in the NFL?
Really complaining about a conditional 7 round pick in 2 years?

The lameness of some of the posters here. Astounding. I'm glad that's a generation dwindling away..

Yeah. Take it to the NSZ.
And anyone arguing over a 6th/7th is nucking futs.
I'll be glad to when you and they do.
And I agree that 6th/7th might not be nothing, but it's next to it.
This isn't a negotiation. Keep your proselytizing to the NSZ. Your inability to separate forums has already gotten you kicked off one Texans MB.
I don't care what the market is/was for mallett. That's not even relevant.
Can he play. I think he can. Has some faults, but I like him.
This is where I'm at. Is he a franchise QB who knows. Can he be better than a Cassel type QB? Probably
Will Mallett be better than Fitz? Definitely
Mallett's ceiling is 2009 Schaub. Mallett's floor is Todd Marinovich.
No more risk than any late round QB but potential cancerous character issues perhaps.

That was back in 2011. I would like to see a report on him now. Would like to hear what Godsey says. Can we get a interview with him please? Steph?
I don't know what Mallett brings to the lockerroom. I have to believe that O'Brien knows what he's getting into and can handle it. But, I don't believe anything that comes out (or doesn't come out) of New England. Not a thing. What makes you say that? From what I've read/heard he has been a squeaky clean hard worker for 3 years now.
You see the team as having a hole at QB. I see the team as having holes
all over the field.
If we are being hypothetical, that 7th could turn into a 6th and Brady was
a 6th.. We will never know what it could have been

I doubt it has changed much with his 4 total nfl snaps.
I'm not at all judgmental, except when I am. And I judge you to be worthless, in contempt of your superiors, aggravating, and down right judgmental yourself. So, listen here young'un, you keep paying your social security taxes to support us retired old people so we can come in here and make posts that aggravate you.

he was talking worst case/best case. I said that it's no more risk than a late rd flyer so there is no risk there. Only possible risk I see is that he is still immature although he seems clean from afar. In terms of talent I see a Drew Bledsoe type and I'll agree with that Marinovich type as his downside.
Hey! What'd we do to deserve him?
The trade almost makes no sense when you think about it.
I started it off sideways when I made a comment that was not as coherent to his point as I intended it to be. That's what a pot of coffee can do to a man.I wasn't differing with the best/worst assessment, actually wasn't differing at all - just hadn't heard anything other than him being a model citizen (although that obviously comes with a PR grain of salt).
