No new news, it's a quiet time now until camp begins. I don't think we'll see him early but expect to see him join the team at some point in training camp/pre-season.
To me, this is where the rubber meets the road.
We are still in the dark about what, exactly, AJ wants to the team to do. He's not a good WR-diva like the NFL has seen in the past. Those guys always seemed to get their agendas out in the open, but with AJ, all we know is that he's unhappy with 9 of his 11 years as a Texan. But, beyond that, what is his point? Is he going to retire if they don't trade him? Show up but be unhappy? Time will tell.

I just think this is AJ pulling a veteran move and not wanting to be at all the extracurriculars that precede training camp. the whole "this may not be the right situation for me.." thing is just out there so he doesn't look like a diva pouting about things.
Most guys that have been in the league as long as he has loathe OTA's and minicamp. Most don't even want to attend training camp but they understand they need it to some degree to get ready for the season.

With no leverage and with the team staring at his big cap numbers as it stands, it is unlikely that the Texans will be truly able to satisfy him on any front...........which makes me feel that showing up unhappy is where this is going. My fear is that even the best professional, under these circumstances will tend to have their performance negatively affected by underlying residual resentment........even if it manifests purely subconsciously.

Based upon what we are hearing from his remarks at the Nike event in Oregon,
this sounds like it's more about money than getting traded to another team that's a contender, but then if it's about money how does one explain him forfeiting a million bucks by not showing up at OTAs ?

Am I right in thinking his uncle is giving him advice on this? Is that the same uncle who screwed the pooch on his contract to the extent that the Texans took pity and renegotiated to make him the highest paid WR at one point?

IMO the breakdown is Andre's two last years. If you look at the cap hit vs. cut he's got to be thinking that as he approaches 2015 and 2016 that he's concerned he'll be cut as a cap casualty.
In 2015 cutting the 34 year old Andre frees up $8 million in cap room.
In 2016 cutting the 35 year old Andre frees up $12 million in cap room.
What Andre is asking for is that he gets more guaranteed money in those two years, so he feels more confident that he won't be the cap casualty. It's arguable that he might be worth keeping around if always healthy, but any significant injury and he's gone. If the Texans guarantee him $4 million/$6 million in those respective years that solves the problem. The question is should they?

AJ posting those numbers would not be surprising, but I suppose I'd be surprised if we have a QB on the roster that can get him the football enough to post those numbers.
I hate to say this, but this is the lowest I've ever felt as a Texans fan going into a new season, and that includes David Carr's 5th year when we all knew he was broken. Fitzpatrick on the roster is just not something I can garner any optimism about, and while I hate that feeling of being a Debbie Downer, I just can't shake it and I'm not going to put up a fake act about it.
Hopefully, it'll all diminish once the season starts and O'Brien's skills as a head coach reveals Fitz having the best season of his career. And that, my friend, is my attempt at optimism.

It might not phase him, but the players? I reckon a lot of players are going to get fed up with the "where's Andre" type questions. O'Brien will be the one taking the brunt of those questions.
Either way, if I were the Texans, I wouldn't do a thing. AJ has no leverage. He'll either report to TC and play. Or he won't and be fined daily.
In the end, he chose to stick with the Texans for the long haul. He's had his chances to bail.

This. I don't pretend to understand the implications of his cap hit in the coming seasons or what the Texans could possibly do to move him and at the same time not take the related hit but it really doesn't matter. Andre Johnson is under contract for two more years and if I were the Texans I'd say play or watch the game on TV. The Texans are finally doing things (IMO) more or less right and AJ's a fool for picking this moment to pull this crap.
I wonder if the Texans roll out of the gate with a bunch of wins (be it luck, improved coaching, or simply an easier schedule) then will he suddenly want to play again?
I agree. I'm a fan of AJ and have tried to keep this situation in a business perspective without emotion.
That said, I'm a Texans fan first and foremost, and no player - not Andre Johnson, JJ Watt, whoever - is greater than the team.
Is it advantageous to move AJ? No. It hurts the team. Bottom line, right now is a horrible time to cave to AJ's apparent demands, simply because it hurts the team and sets a bad precedent.
I like AJ and will not disparage the guy, but as a Texans fan, he's got two choices in 2014: Play in Houston or sit out the season. It's black and white and the ball is in your court, AJ.

IMO this has always been about guaranteed money. After this season he is basically guaranteed nothing and can be released with minimal cap hit.
He wants one last payday and the only team that would give a 33 year old WR any guaranteed money would be the Texans. He made his play but it has completely backfired on him

if this is true, he's just stupid to not attend, especially in lieu of a new offensive package to digest. What was more important than this to a PRO football player? I'm really not as enamored with AJ as I was before this off-season. His "better than the rest" status is over for this fan. He is a big disappointment as far as his captain status. Take that C off of his uniform if he comes back.

When Kubiak was extended in 2006, I told a friend: "That is going to haunt this team several years down the road."
yes, i'm beating a dead horse, but that extension was one of those "Big Picture" decisions that can come back to bite you.
I like Bob McNair overall, but this is all of his fault.
Having said that, Andre wanting to win certainly didn't stop him from taking more money when it was offered. Andre knew he was on a lousy team years ago. He could have left. Instead, he took the cash. Sorry, man, that's on you.

Good, Texans can't keep giving into his demands like when they extended him with 5 years remaining (even when they didn't need to) because he felt he wasn't getting paid enough even though he's the one that agreed to it.
They need to keep saying no, Texans showed him a lot of loyalty already.

Johnson is a team captain. He wears the C on his helmet. You lead by example and this is an awful example. It's in your effin' contract. Honor it or stop begging for exceptions. It's not what leaders do.

I love Andre, but, no. We can't give in to his demands. He knew the consequences of missing workouts: $1 million dollars. And now he wants that money back? And, with the Texans saying no, he's suddenly wanting to go to another team? (which he really wanted from the jump, but didn't have the stones to say).
If you spell out to your kids the consequences of something, and then don't follow-up with that consequence if they misbehave, that sets a really, really bad precedent.

He's a player. He's a great player. I've loved his contributions to the team over the course of his career; I've loved watching him play; in the past, I've loved how he's gone about his business without making a huge deal about things. I hope they can work it out with him in a way that makes both sides happy because I would love for him to continue playing on my team.
If they pay him and he stays, I'm fine with that. If they don't pay him but he stays and becomes a distraction, I'm not fine with that. If they trade him to someone else, I want them to get something of value for him so that the team improves.
If he's not a Texan after this is said and done, fine. I'm still a Texan fan. I'll be rooting for him wherever he goes except when he plays us.
But to act like this is some huge betrayal of the team? I don't get that. He's playing the offseason game that all the players play. Nothing unusual. You get paid what you negotiate, not what you're worth. He's put in some long, hard years here with us and if he's decided it's time to start generating some cash for his retirement, more power to him.

I'm thinking there haven't been team captain selections for this year. Those most likely will be held after preseason is over. Last year the selections were made right before the opener. 2013 team captains were Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson, Brian Cushing, J.J. Watt & Shane Lechler.

bottom line this brings to many negatives to the organztion
-negs to the vets we have on the team know feeling has the org is to strict look at what they did to Andre what would they do to me ..???
-negs to bringing in other free agents thinking this place must really suck to come play for
-negs to the media now this will shed more and longer bad light
